I want to tent camp in aug at the fort and I have been doing a lot of research and came a cross that you shouldn't tent camp in aug due to the heat....I am NOT a cold person, I HATE the cold, I don't like the air on when I sleep...(dh does though) thanks :goodvibes

Fort Wilderness? If so, you might also want to consider that August is hurricane season.. Even though Orlando is "inland", they can get some pretty fierce wind, torrential rain, and of course lightening..

Just something to think about.. :)

depends on where you are tent camping....but it was nearly freezing up in the mountains of Colorado the last couple of nights....no worries about heat. It is always cooler at night. I have never heard that you shouldn't camp in August...seems like a silly thing. We had a bunch of Texas gentlemen last July ask if it was always this cold at night in Colorado.:lmao: It was a bit chilly.

I just re-read and I think she did mean Ft. Wilderness...have you asked over in the camping forum??

we have NO choice but to go to Disney in Aug. due to dh's visitation with his boys...and we are a large family and can't afford too rooms but I want to stay on site...

Have you camped before? And have you done so in the summer? If so, I don't see where it's anyones concern when you camp. :confused3
Now if you had never tent camped before and had only ever stayed in a nice cushy air-conditioned room then I wouldn't suggest it for a first trip.

OMG! Yes, you are insane!

Between the heat and the rain and the bugs.....

Seriously, I hate cold as well, but there's hot and then there is August in Central Florida.

Think the camping forum will talk the OP out of this? :rotfl:

I have tent camped a lot and I love it. it's my dh I'm worried about he thinks that when the temp is over 70 it is too hot

any way I love the summer also have. I want to move somewhere warmer..

I absolutely 100% totally agree with this post!!!!! DO NOT camp in a tent in FL in August :scared1:

There are a lot of great deals out there - try to price out 2 rooms at a value. OR we stayed off-site one trip in a 3bdr 3bath Windsor Hills townhouse with a splash pool and it was awesome! It was actually quicker to get to the parks in many cases than taking the Disney bus ;)

It's low 90's outside right now - almost midnight.

I think you're crazy for camping...period:lmao:...if I want to rough it i leave the window open in the hotel room:lmao::rotfl2:

priced the two rooms already and NOT in the budget...if we get tow rooms it will cost at least 1,500 for a 7 night stay....this is a ONE time in a life time thing for us...

Yes, you are crazy (and I mean that in the nicest way!:goodvibes). It's not so much the heat, it's the humidity. I am from an area with similar weather & I woudn't do it.

For as long as I live, I will never forget the time my wife and I decided to camp out in July near Charleston SC (we were traveling and thought it might be a fun way to save money). It was probably one of the worst nights of my life. I have never been so hot and miserable. About the only thing that saved us from completely shriveling up like a couple of pieces of bacon in a frying pan was the fact that there was a shower facility right near us. We each took about 5 cold showers that night just trying to keep from dying.
So, as you might infer from my own experience - DON'T DO IT. Especially if you say that your hubby doesn't care for too much heat.
Pawn some jewelry, get a second mortgage on the house, Sell your blood on a weekly basis - do whatever you need to do to raise enough money to afford something that has A/C.

Yikes to camping.
When we were thinking of doing the cabins I found out there is actually a person that rents an RV at the campgrounds. They go set it all up for you- and take it down when you're done.
Looked pretty good to me.
MUCH BETTER than a tent to me.
Just another idea. The camping board here is a very very helpful bunch.

Check out the off-site Windsor Hills option :thumbsup2

We had a gorgeous home in a fab location for less than what you have quoted above. There is an off-site forum that has lots of suggestions :)

Also another option- although not technically on-site- it is as close to on site as you can get(in fact it's through the welcome to disney gate!)
Bonnet Creek.
They have great promos right now (it's a time share but you can rent the rooms through an owner- again there is a popular one from the dis and he was very helpful to us)

I love camping but would not plan to camp in Florida in August. Miserable hot and no escape. Find a cheap hotel and get two rooms. Honestly, I wouldn't go to WDW in August period, because of the heat.
