Am I calculating this correctly?

I am staying at POR Riverside but was considering The Contemporary. When I looked at the price difference, I see that it's significant but when I read the historical promotions it seems that The Contemporary can get up to 35% room only discount (plus I'm a VISA cardholder) so if I calculate this it would be like only a $285 difference - which I am ok about switching for. Am I missing something? Is the 35% accurate? TIA!!

The past few years the general public discounts at CR have been 10-15%
I remember back in 2010 CR had higher % off as did most of the Deluxe resorts

I think the chance of the CR being 35% for an entire stay is unlikely. Marketing wording is tricky, and even if 1 day for 1 deluxe resort is discounted at 35% they are able to say "up to 35% off Deluxe resorts."

Yes, if the offer is available, the difference between deluxe and moderate is reduced. Definitely keep an eye out for The release of special offers for your dates! Offers may not be available on all days/dates. You may have to pay rack rate for weekend stays, but the weekdays may be discounted.

Yep, that was the latest "deal" so I ended up keeping our FD over moving to one of the other resort. The reduction for week days was pretty significant, however the rack rate for weekends just boosted it over my comfort zone.

Yes, deluxe resorts get the steepest discounts, and the difference is typically $100+ off per night. This is why we always prefer a resort discount to free dining, as we stay deluxe & save much more via the resort discount.

I've never found lack of availability on weekends- availability is random, and can be limited. You have to go for the offer when it comes out, and it helps if you can be flexible with your days.

From what I read, it seems that you get a higher % off as a VISA cardholder. Keep an eye out at the end of this month.

Perhaps not a greater percentage of savings, but a larger or different inventory to choose from.
