Am I being snobby?

We just got back from our Disney vacation and I was very disappointed. There seemed to be a lot of rude, loud and inconsiderate vacationers. It made the parks seem more "Six Flaggsish" than Disney. This was my seventh trip, we go every other year, and we are thinking it might be our last for a while. Anyone else feel the same way or am I just being snobby?

WDW is nothing compared to DL. Yes I've dealt with a few rude people at WDW. I've actually seen more people be rude towards and angry with CM's than other vacationers.

Now DL on the other hand...I used to live in So. Cal and you want to talk about rude people inside DL & Cal. Adventure. And that's not just the visitors. DL by far has the most rude CM's I've ever encountered. Not all of them are like that. We did meet some nice ones, but the CM's at DL can't even compare to WDW CM's.

The problem I think is that when people are on vacation they feel entitled to something because they've spent money. Hence the reason they are rude. I feel sorry for them. My vacations aren't perfect, I always expect something to go wrong. But darn it, I'm not going to take it out on other vacationers.

We were at WDW. I hate to say this but there seemed to be a lot of "dirty" people, and I don't mean hot and sweaty.

people are people. i dont think anyone can expect to only meet kind generous friendly people while in DW, its unrealistic.
"it seems sixflagsish" is sort of a strange thing to say, i wouldnt think the guests at either park would be much different. do you maybe think only wealthy people should visit DW while sixflags is there for the people that are beneath going to DW? im sorry i just dont follow you thought with that qoute?

to be completely honest i dont notice the other vacationers while im there. if people are being rude, i dont notice.
btu i am shocked you dont want to go there because of things others do there. maybe its not really the other people, maybe after 7 years you just have been there done that and are seeking some other form of vacation?

I understand what you are saying. I have noticed more people recently at Disney with "me me me" disease. People doing exactly what THEY want to do, with the mindset "it's ok as long as no one says anything". :upsidedow

I wouldn't worry about it to much - at the rate the ecomony and gas is going, no one will be able to afford Disney or Six Flags. Sad but true.

Good point, a hefty charge at the gate tends to discourage the ill bred. You aren't being snobby at all, must we always cater to the lowest common denominator? What shocks me the most is when adults use swear words while kids are around, thankfully this has not happened often at Disney. I have to laugh at movie ratings due to language, go to any public school here (and this is a good area!) and you hear swearing all day starting from the 5th grade, the teachers don't even care.

havent you heard, gas is dropping. sure not a whole lot, but its not going up anymore. gas here over the last 2 days has dropped 20 cents. i just pain 3.86 :cool1: i know its not as good as 1.99, but its somehting!!!

The one time I went in the summer, I was discouraged. The parks seemed dirtier and people were cranky, heck - I might have even been cranky. Was this your only visit in the summer? If so, maybe that is it. You might also be ready for a break from Disney for a couple of years or do an Orlando vacation that isn't all about Disney. We stay off site in a villa and only go to the parks a couple of days during our vacation. It has made our park days more enjoyable and more exciting because we are not immersed in the parks the whole time.

I ahve noticed wherever we go people suffer from me disease. All the rules apply to everyone else but me. If the light is red its only red for you not me. If the line is long its long for you not me. If it says no u-turn that means you can't but I can and so on. Its everywhere in this I have to be first, have everything now world.

I tend to go in the cooler months so I don't know if the heat has anything to do with it. I can imagine the heat would make people cranky. I don't think saying people are six flagish is fair. Everyone who can pay the admission price has a right to be there. And other theme parks are getting just as expensive as Disney.

I've noticed it too OP.....I attribute it to the dumbing down of everything. Or as someone else said "catering to the lowest common denominator". Just because some people refuse to see it doesn't mean it's not happening. LOL

Luckily there is still a big difference between Disney parks and Six Flags. Keeping my fingers crossed the chasm doesn't narrow any more than it already has. :)

No, you're not being snobby, just realistic in your observations.

As other posters have mentioned, it might be the summer. I hate going during the summer months. It's hot beyond belief and everyone is tired and cranky...plus it's crowded. Go in January next time....I think you will have a much different experience.

We're heading out to DL for the first time next month. I really hope we don't encounter the rude people.:sad2:

What do you mean by dirty people?

OP you don't sound snobby at all but some of the other posters sure do.:snooty:

Maybe Disney is institute an income guideline. If your yearly salary falls below XYZ, then your family isn't allowed in the parks. That should keep out the ill bred, dirty folks.:rolleyes1

I am Shocked! My DH and I live paycheck to paycheck with a little savings and live in a double wide. We have 5 children and I have CHOSEN not to work this summer to be with my kids at home.
We have been to WDW once and are planning to go next year. The only way we are able to go again is because we are leasing the natural gas under our land and are putting it back for our trip.
I dont even care if you would consider us "dirty" people - If you dont want to be around our type stay away from WDW!
All kinds of people from all over the world go to WDW for vacations. Apparantly snobby people too.

I'm obviously not the DISer who made the reference to "dirty" people, but for the record, where I live the word "dirty" is often used to refer to people who make inappropriate sexual comments (or actions) in public. It doens't have anything to do with a person's "social status" or anything.

Maybe that's what the original poster meant by "dirty" people ...?:confused3

I think the other OP was just joking. But I can understand the reasoning of feeling sixflagish. We have a SixFlags in near us in MA and it is clean but we went to SixFlags in NJ several years ago and it was disgusting. There was a wall of chewed gum that everyone thought must be a cool idea for you stick your chewing gum on the wall. I was so grossed out that I don't think I will ever go back to that park.

But I think the whole world is gone crazy... and have no clue. We were sitting at a restaurant a few weeks ago and my DH had to ask the people to stop dropping the "F" bombs in front of our kids.

I think this is a good point too.

I thought the term "dirty" was referring to inappropriate behavior/comments. I didn't see any reference to peoples financial or social status in that remark at all . I'm not sure how the correlation of lower income could be made to "dirty" - just doesn't correspond to me.

I get it too. We have family in So. Cal. and the last time we visited them they were telling us how scary Six Flag Magic Mtn had become because the mgmt wasn't keeping out the local riff-raff (I'm talking about gang-banger types). The park had lowered their rates for locals so much that going to Six Flags was cheaper than going to the mall or the movie, so that is where they would hang out. Also, I think that Disney is more "family" oriented so you tend to see a lot more mainstream type people in at WDW whereas when we visited Six Flags (I admit, years ago now) we noticed the demographic was a lot different - much younger crowd, not as kid friendly, and there were a lot of older teens and very young adults in the parks who were dressed, a little more scantily than we see at Disney, shall we say? For the most part, anyway.

Just my take on it.

We notice rude people at WDW too. Well like the pp's said they are everywhere, even "the happiest place on earth". It's always disappointing to run into people like that. I don't know what advice to give you other than maybe this trip was just a fluke and you should still look forward to another trip. Maybe plan to do some non-park days or just laze by the pool. Find some different activities that don't involve the parks. There is so much do there you can freshen up your trip every time. That's the beauty of WDW imo.

hth
