Am I being a snot?????

Yep, I'm like Chainkid - travel a bunch for work...so a hotel room equates with work for me. I love my DVC! We fill up the fridge and pantry with all sorts of junk food that we would never eat at home, so to us that is vacation. And, again I agree with Chainkid - the washer and dryer allow us to carry on our luggage rather than pack a big suitcase (plus we typically come home with all clothes clean except what we are wearing). I also like the freedom of not worrying about when the maid is coming every day. I guess it really is personal preference, but once we tried a villa we never looked back.

The studios have been great for me, since I'm usually traveling alone without a car and can stock my suitcase with Diet Coke to keep from paying $2.50 for one in the parks. I like microwaving stuff for breakfast, too, but I don't cook.

I don't like having maid service anywhere. I love that nobody comes into the room during the day (or at 9 AM when I'm still sleeping off PI, because I can't always remember to put the do not disturb sign out - WDW housekeepers seem to think everybody's gone to Extra Magic Hour).

Hey, DEH3rd....
I almost thought you had missed that....good catch!!!! LOL. Back on subject, I am really glad for those who have agreed to my OP. I really don't want to feel at home...I want to be on vacation. Thanks for the support. I will get maid service and I know that I will love BWV...BTW, we are staying in a studio so no washer/dryer or jacuzzi. We do have a preferred view. I get a balcony with that...right? If the kids start to get on my nerves...guess where they will be sleeping??????

No, you are not a snot!!

When I'm on vacation there is NO WAY that I am going to cook, make beds or clean!! Absolutely not!! I could stay home and do that for free!!

While waiting for the maid service can be a pain at times, they usually get to know your routine, and when to hit your room to clean it. We've never really had any problems. And trash service after 4 days??? OMG, I'd have to bring hefty bags in my suitcase!?!

Since we are not DVC members, we pay cash to stay a week or more each summer in a Villa in Disney's Vero Beach resort. We have also stayed in Old Key West @ WDW. We receive full-service housekeeping, and I mean FULL! They actually do any/all the dishes left in the sink...and run the dishwasher for me. They also empty it (if it was already run--with clean items left inside) and place everything in it's place. They vac, clean, *wash windows, open/secure drapes, leave fresh towels, make towel animals, leave extra tide for the laundry, etc. I was literally "blown-away" by the extensive cleaning services these cheerful persons provide.

On the other hand, I would not be against cleaning all of this myself...as I seem to do most of this anyway. We always make the beds each morning, clean the villa before leaving, place the trash in the bag, p/u all towels and place them in a neat pile in the bathroom corner, even vac if necessary. I always leave an envelope on the kitchen island with some $$, and any requests for additional items. To conserve water, we do not require they "change" the sheets each day (after all...I do NOT change the sheets at home each day...LOL). :p

Therefore, I thoroughly enjoy the fabulous cleaning and attention to detail these mousekeepers provide. Yet, would do all of it myself w/o question/problem. The opportunity to stay in a beautifully appointed VILLA on a Disney Property, with all the comforts of home...is a TREAT in itself. I fully understand the housekeeping rules for the DVC members, which helps to keep costs down.

I would like to personally "thank" all the DVC members for taking such great care of these properties while vacationing with their families. Our Villa is always immaculate, extremely well-cared for and fully stocked with the necessary items. Disney vacation members seem to take great pride in their membership, and value their association with this club/timeshare. We are pleased to be able to pay cash to stay in these exclusive membership resorts/villas, and greatly appreciate the opportunity to feel like part of the "family" of wonderful DVC members. No one has ever treated us any differently while staying in a DVC resort. After all, we are always "potential" DVC members. ;)

*BTW...I actually "enjoy" cooking at Vero Beach. Since we are on vacation for longer than 7 weeks, it's the only opportunity I have to prepare a meal for our family. The housekeepers were all gathered in our Villa last summer as I returned from the beach to obtain some gear. I surprised them, and they turned (blushing) to inform me they were "intoxicated" by the heavenly smells eminating/wafting from my kitchen! It was the home-made spaghetti sauce simmering slowly on the stove. The aroma filled the villa, and the housekeeper whom arrived to clean had promptly summoned others to partake of the savory smells. (LOL). It's one of my favorite "beach" meals. I just toss on the Angel Hair pasta, add a fresh salad, some garlic bread...and VOILA! Italiano festival @ Vero. :p

TDC Nala...We have never had any problem with the housekeeping staff disturbing us at any resort (Disney or other). Upon arrival, we promptly contact the Manager of housekeeping. We inform this person we ONLY wish to receive "Evening service" (Full Service...just in the eves). We inform this person of the "time" we would like this service.

Since we enjoy sleeping-in (late) while on our sojourns, we do NOT appreciate being disturbed. We never have to place the DND on the door, and have never been disappointed. The manager informs the day-staff, and they bypass our suite completely. The evening staff is fabulous. They clean, plus indulge us with full turn-down service. When we arrive after a late-night in the parks...the room is Clean and Fresh, softly lit...and very welcoming.

If you desire a later service time, or a scheduled "specific" time...merely contact the management personnel of housekeeping in your resort. It's always good to obtain their name too (for reference if you need to call again for any changes or requests). Enjoy! ;)

Maybe I'm a bit of a "snot" too, so I don't intend to cook or make my bed on vacation, because I do it EVERY OTHER DAY OF THE YEAR!

DITTO! DITTO! DITTO!!!

This thread is so funny, it is so funny that anyone could say they are a snot or snob because they prefer the other Disney resorts over a DVC resort! LOL!!! Most people feel as though they are snobs or snots because they stay at a DVC resort vs other Disney resorts. I have stayed numerous times in every Disney resort except GF and I am a DVC member at BWV so I have stayed there many many times and I can say from a lot of experience that none of the other Disney resorts, although they are very nice, can even begin to compare to the luxury of aDVC resort villa, unless you are talking about staying in a full suite at one of the deluxe resorts then that is a different story.
If you have never stayed in a DVC resort, it is impossible to make a comparsion between them and regular hotel rooms. You will be amazed at how nice the BWV is and it is full of Disney magic.
BTW, I have been a DVC member since BWV opened and I have never used the stove, we eat all meals out except a light breakfast of juice, coffee and a muffin or yougurt. I love having the refrig for keeping drinks, etc cold and the kitchen for storing snack items. The w&d are a godsend, the jacuzzi wonderful, room service, valet parking, the ability to walk to 2 parks, numerous restaurants, nighttime entertainment etc right outside your door, etc., etc make BWV one of Disney's premier deluxe resorts, for very good reasons. You will not not feel as though you are slumming it by staying at BWV, believe me. Instead you will probably feel as though you have been slumming it all along when you stayed in non DVC resorts! LOL!!

There are extra bags on the bottom of the trash cans in the room. When you leave in the morning, just pickup your full bag and lift the new bag up. Then drop the full bag at one of the trash rooms on your floor (at OKW they have trash closets on the first level). I know it sounds really strange not to have housekeeping, but believe me when this comes up on the DVC board, members overwelmingly prefer the limited housekeeping. I look at it this way - when you stay in a regular room, they add the cost of housekeeping to your room rate, it's really not "free". You pay for it if you want it or not. With DVC, you have a choice. If you want it, then pay for it if it will make your vacation more enjoyable. Especially when renting points, you are usually paying less than the regular rate (even discounted rates), add the housekeeping and see if you are still getting a lower rate. If not, go through CRO and get housekeeping included in the rate. I've never felt like I wasn't on vacation at DVC because of it. I only wish I could live that good all the time.

No, if you are renting points you will not get housekeeping ona daily basis.

On your 4th day you will get trash & towels. They will come in, take out the trash, give you fresh towels and soap/shapoo.

On the 7th day you will get full housekeeping.

If you want/need extra towels in the meantime you will need to either bring them from home or pay extra for them. Same for sheets and any housekeeping services.

So I guess I don't need to worry about leaving daily tips for housekeeping? Should I just leave one at the very end or is this unnecessary? We are only renting for 2 nights pre-cruise.

You do not need to leave one every day; housekeeping won't be in. If you want to tip the person who cleans after you leave, leave a tip on the last day.

If you were staying more than four nights, you could leave a tip on trash/towel day. I did and I got some extras soaps and shampoos :p

We're renting points and staying at BCV on our next trip. At first I was a little leary of not having daily maid service. But the pros definitely outweighed the cons on this on! My ds (4) and I are going with 2 friends of mine--dh has Disney Burnout! The 4 of us in even the nicest hotel room would have been a little cramped! This way we have a den to realx in. We'll have a full kitchen (not that any of us intend to cook anything) to keep snacks, sodas, beer, etc in. My biggest concern on any vacation is having clean towels daily. I can easily take care of that when we come in from the parks every day. I don't have to have the bed made up--I can just shut the bedroom door!;)

I have a feeling that after this trip I'll either be talking DH into becoming a DVC owner or we'll be renting points again next year!

im actually glad I read this post. Im renting points in October for BWV and I was a little concerned about not having daily maid service, but come to think of it, I hate having to feel like I need to get out of the room at a certain hour to let them clean it. Ive never left the room before I was absolutely ready and I dont care how many times they knock on the door, but it is always in the back of your mind that the family has to get ready quickly so you can let them do their job. When Im on vacation I like to stay up extremely late and sleep in. If I want to wake up at 6 or 7 a.m., I will go back to work. Also, on days when the rest of the family may be in the pool and I might want to just relax in the room, its a sure thing that the maid will be in there at that time. I hate that. It is nice coming back to a clean room after a day at the parks, but I think I can handle pulling the covers back up on my bed. Maybe Im wrong. I guess I will find out.
