Whenever someone knocks on my door and I'm the only one home, or it's just me and DD, I refuse to answer. :confused3 I just hide and pretend I'm not there.

I'm doing it right now. :rotfl2:

It's kind of weird, but over the years I've gotten to where I feel like it's such an invasion if someone knocks on my door or comes to my house unannounced. If my parents come over, they have a key and just walk right in, but we're all okay with that. I don't think I'm unsociable or anything, but I just don't like people knocking on my door. :rotfl:

Am I nutty or what? PLEASE tell me I'm not alone in this.

I do it if it is a door to door salesman. I lock my door and hide!!!! I'm not afraid, I just don't want to be bothered with their pushiness.

I don't answer my door if I am not expecting anyone unless its someone official but then I make them wait until I get someone on the phone who can hear everything going on. You honestly can't be too cautious anymore. How sad is it that you can't answer your own door.

 Me too! I go in the back bedroom and wait until they are gone. So sad :teeth: . I agree with you, if I didn't invite them over I don't want to deal with them, go away.

So no, your not alone, I'm a nutbag too. :rotfl2:

I do the same thing, I just don't answer the door. I used to, but then an elderly neighbor of my sisters was beaten and robbed. She opened the door thinking the "kids" were selling something, they pushed past her and got in.

I figure if it's important they'll leave a note or whatever.

I especially hide from the Mormons. :rotfl2:

Just the other day, some big guy came knocking at our back door (idiot, when we usually have our big dog tied out there) and I went ahead to see what he wanted, and he was asking me all these questions about my neighbor who's been gone a long time. I didn't know a thing about the neighbor, not even his name, but I wouldn't have told on him anyway. Turned out, it was some kind of mortgage bill collector and he was telling me far more than I wanted to know.

I just live in a weird area. It's not a bad neighborhood, but where it's situated, it's a little off the beaten path. I've seen unsavories scoping out the neighborhood on occasion and it's a little creepy.

We have solar screens, so we can see who's at the door and they can't see us. Unless it's a neighbor or friend, we ignore it. No, your not a nutbag!

I usually don't answer it if I can tell it's a salesman.
Sometimes DD, DS, & I hide just as you are doing.

We have floor to ceiling windows on both sides of the front door, so whoever is knocking at the door can see right in.

My neighbors & I call each other to warn when salesmen are coming, so usually I have some notice. :)

OMG, THANK YOU!

I can't tell you how glad I am to hear that I'm not the only one who does this. I just never know why so many different random people need to be going to a stranger's house!

I do have a big dog who makes me feel a little safe. She sounds really scary when someone comes to the house -- gets all snarly and barks ferociously. :dog2:

I wish I could...
its usually the UPS man,
or a tenant -

we have one tenant who use to always ask for the most ridiculous things - lke to use the phone, get a ride to work, or help give his cat medicine -
Lauren was a newborn and napping and I kept trying to ignore the knocks and he wouldn't go away - every few minutes another knock a little lounder and longer - untilfinally I KNEW he would wake her up so I just answered the dang door and I was VERY cold to him - when I let him use the phone
I think he got the hint he hasn't knocked in a long time...

and that is the #1 reason we are building a 'grown-up house!'

No, I do it too.

And, most of the time, I don't answer my phone either.

Guess I'm rude, but I hate being interrupted.

We live way out in the country with just our two crazy neighbors close by so I don't answer the door unless I am expecting someone. I work from home so there are some days I don't get dressed, I just work and DIS in my pajamas (there's a :scared: image for 'ya....I am posting in my pajamas)!!

If it is UPS or the mail man, they just leave the package at the door so they don't have to come so far out again to deliver it at a later date.

I didn't even think of that -- I rarely answer the phone too. I have special rings for certain people (parents, friends, the school) and I answer it for them no matter what. But anyone else, forget it.

I never answer the door at my house. My greatest fear is that one of the perpetrators from work will figure out where I live. SO or Brother always answers the door.

No I never answer the door when I am home alone during the day. When the ds were little I would never answer the door either, sometimes I would go through the garage and answer it that way as the ds could lock another door from the inside if they had to for their safety. I never have a repairman etc. come over unless dh is home. There are just too many weirdos around here. Now that the ds are older and bigger I let them see who is there and we decide whether we will open the door or not. I also keep my shades generally shut in the front of the house. I am not giving anyone any idea of what is in my house and what they would like to help themselves to one day etc. For halloween I sit on the porch and hand out candy, I do this to also make sure our lovely neighborhood teens dont try to egg or shaving cream our house or cars etc.

Never answer my door if I'm not expecting someone. Have had too many instances here in FL in mid day of people answering their door to be beaten and robbed. DH gets so annoyed with me over keeping the door locked at all times. It's a habit and not one I'm willing to break. ;)

I'm a nutbag too. I will not answer the door if I'm by myself and not expecting someone. I don't even bother hiding if I think maybe they've seen me through the livingroom window. Well, first of all they probably already saw me so what's the point of hiding? And second, it's my darn door, I don't have to answer it if I don't want to. :teeth:

I don't either. DS knows to run to the back bedroom when the doorbell rings instead of running to the door like he wants to.

DH thinks I'm nuts. I don't care.

I hate having the door unlocked too. My mom can't stand to be in the house with the front door shut. She always forgets to lock the storm door too. My grandmother is the same way. Makes me so nervous.

Are you people trying make me paranoid?? Maybe I should stop answering the door. I'm too curious not to answer. :teeth:
