The jewelry/pearl store outside of Stormalong Bay offers a 10% discount to DVC members. I purchased an anniversary gift for DW there. I couldn't find any publication that advertised this discount, but fortunately I wasn't too embarrassed to inquire about a DVC discount. I was pleasantly surprised at the answer. Has anyone else come across an unpublished discount?

Yes, although it is most often the exception rather than the rule, I almost always find one or two unpublished discounts when I'm at WDW for a week. I usually ask at checkout and once in a while I'm pleasently suprised. Most often though, the CM just looks at me like I'm completely insane and says "no."

I just learned this about 2 weeks ago on our last trip. I was in line at the Basin Store in Downtown Disney. The saleswoman asked the person in front of me if she had an annual pass or dvc card for a discount. I was so excited since I have shopped here a few times and never thought about a discount at this store. After this experience I think it pays to ask.

We usually pull out our APs, DVC card, DDE (when dining), and Disney Visa and ask which will get us the best discount. Sometimes we just ask if there's any discount available.

good for you!!! :thumbsup2

No, because I always forget to ask for discounts... :rotfl:

anyway on this trip - because I am on a tight budget I hope to do better!!!

I did just this at Earl of Sandwich in March. I thought there was a DVC discount, a DDE discount or perhaps an AP discount. Apparently it's none of the above -- however we received a 10% CM discount "just for asking."

Consider it a little bit of magic if it happens, but don't necessarily expect it to happen.

I asked at Earl of Sandwich too and was told the only discounts they have are for CMs and AAA Diamond members. But for $4.95 a sandwich, that's already pretty discounted in my book!

I always forget which locations offer discounts when I'm out and about, so I just asked at each place, include the CS locations at the parks. I asked at Tusker House at AK and was told they don't have any discounts... then come to find out, DDE has them listed as giving 20% off!!!

Oh well... maybe next time I'll actually remember to print out the wallet discount list.
