Alternatives to Magic Bands?

I read in several places awhile back that there would be alternatives to the magic bands such as RFID key chains or other things.

Does anyone know if this actually happened or is it a choice between your magic band or a card? Or is a card even an option?

I've got an RFID key chain!!! I just cut the middle "bump" out of the magic band, drilled a tiny hole in one corner, attached a chain, and voila. Now I just tap it agains the Mickey reader and it has worked 100% of the time. CMs are always intrigued and often want to see it and they laugh when they see what I did.

The only part of the magic band that matters to you is the tiny RFID chip in the thick bump (about the size of 3 quarters stacked up). The rest of the band is important only to Disney, as it holds the transmitting antenna so they can track you whether you want them to or not. Nothing to do with the RFID chip that's needed for admission, FP, charging, room lock, etc. So cutting out the middle fixes it so you don't have to wear a tracking bracelet, and you can just put it on a keychain in your pocket. We love it.

Just to add that I have *never* worn my MagicBand. I just stick it in a pocket or bag and take out when needed. So, to me, having a card or a keychain thing will be the same as what I have with the MagicBand.

There are two RFID chips. One is the small one behind the head. The other is a larger chip that extends several cm beyond either side of the head. That's the long-range chip. You probably destroyed that one by cutting it, but it won't stop you from badging in to rides.

Was at POFQ in September and checkin counter said... Magic Bands only... no cards...so beware ...we wore our MB's with no problems ....everywhere ..!
