I need a new fridge, but the ones that they sell in the stores today are all alike and I hate the design. Specifically, the designers seem to think that we want lots of space in the door, at the expense of space taken from the shelves. I don't agree; I want a new fridge just like the circa 1970 fridge that just died. It has "wide open spaces" for the shelves, which are relatively large and accessible (because they are not recessed back to make room for the door-shelves). I want a top-freezer model.

Can anyone tell me where I can find refrigerators that don't look like the same ol' same ol' that's littered throughout all the stores?

There is a chain of stores called SOZIO that carries appliances in reproductions of all different eras. There are quite a few of them in Massachusetts, but I don't know about CT.

Have you checked out the FRENCH DOOR Refrigerator? Yes it's newish- but the design meets all my needs- LOOOOONG shelf I can open and put in a tray of whatever no problem. The door does have the milk thing- the deep shelf. But I like that.

The 2 opening doors on top make for a very user friendly fridge. imho.

Thanks for the input. I'm sur ethat I'm going to just hold my nose and buy one of these ugly things at the store, but I sure with there were better alternatives. The SOZIO offerings were not what I am looking for, but I thank you indeed.

Here's one thing that should make you feel better. That circa 1970 model was probably a major kilowatt-guzzler compared to the new models that you don't like. Fridge efficiency has improved DRASTICALLY over the past 40 years.

You'll be able to count a lot more money into your wallet while you're holding your nose.

To the OP - I feel your pain. Most fridges these days have the stupid icemaker/ice&water dispenser thingy in the door. I will NEVER hook up an ice maker, dueto our well water, I will NEVER drink our water...I don't want to pay for the darn ice maker/dispenser that will not even get hooked up.

I'm sorry - I've turned YOUR post into my vent...

That's quite alright. You'll never know the ORIGINAL vitriolic post that never got Sent when I first sat down to write. And that's a good thing, in the long run, I am sure :lmao:
