Alternates on children's menus

We're visiting in December with 3 adults and 6 kids. Four of my kids are on the adult dining plan, but my girls (will be 9 years old) have the children's dining plan. We do not eat meat and have additional religious dietary restrictions. I'm wondering if anyone has been successful in getting alternates for their children.

Would I be able to request a smaller portioned adult item for them? I'm really worried now about what they'll be able to eat; to upgrade them to an adult dining plan would be approximately an additional $640, in which case it may be less just to pay for additional items OOP.

My mother is paying for this once-in-a-lifetime vacation for our family and neither of us realized how limited the kids' menu is when she made the reservations. I don't my girls to feel like they are left to eat PB&J while everyone else is enjoying real meals and desserts.

Not sure what your additional religous restrictions are but definitely contact Disney Dining (at the bottom of every ADR) and have it added to each reservation. There are plenty of vegetarian/vegan options, make sure to review QS menus in advance to see where the most varieties are available. For TS, I'd select mostly buffet meals so that the children could have the adult options there. I haven't heard of modifications such as adult meals in child portions. If you really believe that would be the case, I would also look into paying OOP rather than the dining plan and having them share adult meals.

Hope that helps...

Note your dietary restrictions on your reservations and reiterate them at the restaurant. The chef will come out and talk with you. I don't know if they can make a child size portion of an adult item, but they will be able to create something for your kids. Disney is very good with dietary restrictions.

On another thread you listed several buffets. Everyone is able to eat from the entire buffet. Although there is a children's section with kid friendly food, kids can eat from the entire buffet and the chef will point out what you wouldn't be able to eat because of the religious restrictions.
