Altering Princess Dresses?

Has anyone altered a princess dress-up dress before? My daughter has a fair collection of princess dresses but has out grown most of them...am thinking of unpicking the side stitching and adding extra material to get a bit more wear out of them. We are visiting Disney in December and would be great if she had a dress or two to wear if she wants to without having to buy new ones. Hmmm
