Boo season is almost upon us. Am trying to be more frugal this year than years past, and was thinking it might save money and be fun for the kids to make the boo bags rather than buy some.

I have on hand a lot of brown lunch bags that I thought maybe they could decorate, but I also have a ton of orange, yellow, and black felt that I bought a couple of years ago and did nothing with. can bags be made out of the felt?

I am afraid I am missing the craft gene, and could use some help here!

thanks!!!!

Instead of making the bags out of felt, you decorate the bags with the felt.:thumbsup2

Make a template for the ghost, pumpkin, word BOO, candy pieces, etc... out of paper. Then you trace that onto the felt and cut.

Glue onto the bags.

Done!

I love the felt bags idea!

Depending on how much stuff you are putting in the bag - I would make "flat bags, i.e. fold the flet in half, and sew (or glue) up the two sides. If you need an idea to "sinch" the top of the bag, cut a few slits about 1" from the top, and thread some string, yarn or ribbon through the slits, and then "sinch it shut!

This is a "green" idea, as I am willing to bet that the bag will get "reused" throughout the neighborhood "booing" season.

If you have enough felt you can make the bags out of the felt and then also do the templates and cut the designs out of the felt.

That would be really cute.

To make a bag, just make a paper template first and put it together. Once you are set on the design, trace and cut out.

no idea on the felt and boo bag but at the end of last season we bought clearance stuff and put up for this year. I have some really neat candy dishes and decorations that we picked up for under $10 total (4 or 5 items) at Kohl's last year.

thanks! some good ideas here. think I'm going to play around with sewing the felt as a flat bag first, and if that doesn't work will switch to decorating the paper ones.

what would I use for thread? just regular thread, right?

If you're going to sew, I would go with the embroidery thread. Might be a little stronger.

But in reality, I use my glue gun for just about anything. Much easier than sewing.

could I use regular white glue? my glue gun is MIA

You can put the bag together with hot glue, thread, yarn, staples even....;)

I would probably use yarn. Glue thru felt can look "messy" if you overdo the glue.

You could do a bag that was just 2 sides like an envelope sort of and then piece it together that way.

In fact make a template of a pumpkin and cut that out of the felt. Then you can decorate it. Now that would be cute.

okay, these are turning out really cute! I used some white glue, but then decided to blanket stitch them with embroidery floss. really cute! I'm using green floss on the orange felt, black on the white, and probably orange on the black ones. I'm just making simple rectangles and cuffed the top, then braided some yarn and made handles for them (used a hold punch to make the holes).

I found lots of decorations that I had squirreled away...web and pumpkin stick ons. the kids are having so much fun making them! going to use a little glitter glue to write boo! on them. so much more we can do with them, but its a good start!

:) :) :)
