Already being from Chicago, what's the main reason you'd visit here?

I guess living here all my life, I don't see what others see!
It is sooo crowded downtown here this Christmas, and supposedly last year we were the number 1 destination for New Year's visitors, why do you come here?

Is it family, the sights, what? It can't be the weather!!

personally I'd come for the art insititute. The Seurat alone is a huge draw for me!

I think every city has a charm about it, but rarely do we appreciate the one we are in. When I moved to Boston years ago and met my dh, who had lived there his whole life, I showed him so much! One great thing to do is to pick up a Fromers about your city and really look at it like a tourist. You'd be surprised what you've missed

Since there are so many DIS'ers from the Chicago area I would have to say "To meet a bunch of other DIS'ers" as my number one reason. My number two reason would be to attend a Chicago Cubs game.

Wrigley Field. There's something about the history of that ballpark that makes me want to visit Chi-town. The newer ballparks just don't have the same appeal.

Shopping...the art musuems...Garrett's popcorn...The American Girl Store...The Hancock Tower...The Magnificent Mile...To see the Showcase studio at WGN...The wonderfully decorated hotel lobbies at Christmas...The original Marshall Fields...Watertower place...The Museum of Science & Industry...

Ghiradelli's for ice cream, Gino's East for pizza, the Cubs. the Sox's and the Bear's..LOL

The Lake to swim/ boat in, Lincoln Park and the zoo (one of the ONLY free zoo's in the US), Sears Tower, Medieval Times, The McDonald's museum.Navy Pier, Field Museum..

of course Al Capone and all the gangster stuff..

I was born in NW Indiana and moved to the Atlanta area 22 years ago. Everytime we visit Indiana we take the South Shore into Chicago and go to the Field and Science and Industry Museums. We have nothing on that scale in Atlanta. There's also the Cubs. DH and I have been fans since birth. Last time we went to Harry Carreys and had lunch. I loved Chicago as a child and still do. There is a certain character to the city that is like no other. The pizza is also the best in the world.

Babar - having lived most of my life about 45 minutes from Chicago, I can totally understand where you are coming from. People that are just visiting are not bothered by the things that people that either live or work there see on a daily basis. The Cubs were the main reason ( even tho the traffic was horrible) we would go but visiting things like Navy Pier and the Magnificient Mile was nice on occasion too.

Family, but I have to say I loved Chicago on our last (and only so far) visit. My in-laws moved to a suburb North of Chicago. When we visited we took the kids to the Field Museum (DS is a dinosaur lover) and the Shedd Aquarium. I'd love to go back to see Navy Pier. I think it's true that visitors don't see or notice the everyday problems so much. I thought it was a great city

I went to college years ago near Chicago (River Forest) so I would go just for memory sake. However, like another poster said, I would also go to meet SO many DIsers that I know live in that area!!

To be with friends I have known for years, to meet with DISers, to see the beautiful lake front, the pizza, and well, it is just a neat city with a lot to do and see... hard to explain. I know that I feel like my city doesn't have much to offer, but find that there are some who have visited see more neat things than I realized there were to offer (if that makes sense).

We visited there this past year just because we happened to be sort of close to Chicago, and had never been there. We were vacationing at Indiana Beach (we live in NWFlorida). Wanted to take my son to the Lego store and one of my daughters' to the American Girl Store.

We went to the Navy Pier, up in the Hancock building, and along the street with all the shopping. Also visited the fountain and the waterfront across from the fountain. The weather happened to absolutely gorgeous when we were there.

I think we just enjoyed the "energy" that's found in a large vibrant city like Chicago.

We (2 adults, 21 yo DD, 17 yo DD) spent a week in Chicago this past June. We had never been before. Since we visit WDW every two years & this was an off year, we decided to visit a major US city for our vacation. It came down to Chicago, NYC, or Seattle. Chicago won because I am the vacation organizer & I wanted to visit Wrigley(watched Harry & Steve Stone many years on WGN ) & new Comiskey.

We had a blast! We stayed at The Chicago Sheraton Hotel & Towers ( Priceline for $82/nite!). We visited the Magnificent Mile, both ballparks, Lincoln Park Zoo, Magnificent Mile, Hancock Tower, Field Museum, Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, Harry Carey's, Magnificent Mile , & ate a lot of Italian Food.

Chicago is a great city! However, the taxi drivers are scary (their driving I mean)!

One thing I would do different. We took the train(El?) from Midway & it was a pain with luggage & we didn't save that much from taking a taxi. Plus, there was this scary teen, cussing into a cell phone. Everyone was ignoring him-I wanted to throw him out at the next stop. I decided my family needed me alive .

I will have to start going to Chicago several days a month for work starting in the spring. I like the city, its the traffic I dread.

I have never been and sadly i can't say why i would go there. Meaning I don't know much about the city


However, I am excited because I am moving to Indy at the end of the week and my DFiance said that Chicago was awesome and I am excited to take a weekend trip up there sometime

For me it's the Childhood memories I have of walking down Mag Mile with just my mom and dad admiring all the Christmas decorations. I love Shedd aquarium, Sears tower, Sceience and industry museum. Also the pizza, the COOL disney store, the original Marshall Fields, FAO Scharwatz. Now all the Disers I know that live in area, b/c I'm "home Sick". Yes even the lovely Lake effect.
