We booked the Apline Inn for our DLR trip in April. I booked it according to reviews on tripadvisor.com, it rates #7. I was just wondering about the hotel though as I have never heard anything said about this place on Dis. We got a really good rate for the 5 nights we are staying in Anaheim, it was under $300 total. Has anyone stayed there and have any opinions on this hotel?

I never hear about it *here*, but it has been mentioned in that past on mouseplanet's forums. In the past, at least, it's been mentioned as a pleasant place that you can get for a good rate!

I've stayed there a couple of times. It's a decent place, no-frills for sure, but it was clean & quiet. The outside of it is made to look like a Swiss chalet with fake "snow/icicles" on it, so it's one of the very few places left that are still themed like they were in the 50s/60s. My only complaint was the beds...they were like sleeping on rocks with a sheet over them. :rotfl:

And, while technically it's walking distance, it's a looooooooooong walk even if you take the shortcut down Disneyland Drive through the Grand Californian. If you won't have a car during your stay, it's worth it to walk across the street and take the ART bus to the Park.

Well that's disappointing to hear, all the reviews made it sound like it wasn't a long walk at all. :( Thank you for your reply! :)

IIRC, there used to be an additional shortcut through one of Disney's parking lots; maybe that's what they were talking about? I just remember it being a long, loooooooooooong walk, even though, technically, the hotel is right next to Disney property. You can avoid the walk by taking the ART bus, though :thumbsup2

Where does the ART drop off and pick up in comparison to the location of Alpine Inn?

IIRC, the ART bus picks up/drops off in front of the Convention Center, across the street. You should probably ask the front desk clerk when you check in, though, as it's been several years since I stayed there & I don't want to give you the wrong info.

I used to hear people crossing the street and taking the Lion KIng tram from the parking lot there, but is that the one they are tearing up?

Hello
I can tell you first hand that the Alpine Inn is a great place to stay we stayed in Room 221, which is at the end of the building near DCA we were there just last week 1/29 to 2/3.
You can hear the crowd during the day from riding Screaming but did not hear any noise inside the room.
The hotel is very quite no road noise and we slepted very well at night the beds are comfortable and not to hard the only thing we did not like was the water saver shower head not use to them coming from Australia ours has a bit more water flow, Yes it is older and the rooms are very clean no mold in the bathroom and I walked around the room in white socks and they were not black underneath, the room was big enough for the two of us and has a fridge and microwave.
The towels are not over size but still nice a fluffy there is a laundry $3 per wash and a free dryer it is a bit hidden I went with my wife every time we wash for her own safety but that is just me.
The breakfast is basic coffee orange juice danish muffins brownies all prewrapped products, there is free internet for guests in the lobby. Alamo car hire is right next door for easy car hire and 7 11 on the corner and food 4 less down the road and used hire car to get there. Now the big question of walking I am a big person and it took us about 10 to 15 minutes to walk/slow walk to Disneyland we did this 2 times a day every day and a very easy walk round the corner at 7 11 up Harbor Blvd pass the set of lights at Disney Way and pass the disable/15 minute drop off parking and to your left into Disneyland.
We paid $431 with tax for 7 days I cancelled a booking at HoJo's to stay here only for ease of car hire ( with Hertz ) and food 4 less.
we really enjoyed our stay and the staff are very helpful. we had an early checked in and left our bags with them when we checked out for a few hours before we got the bus to the airport.
Hope this helps

Thank you, I think I feel much better about staying here and will stop looking for a "better" deal. lol

Last time I tried this was in October, but there is also a tram that picks up on the opposite side of the promenade as the Mickey and Friends structure that goes to Katella and drops off across the street from the convention center, that would probably make the walk a lot shorter.

We stayed there in November of 2007. My husband was a little leary of my booking the hotel, because it was cheap, and he's a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Honestly, it was fine. No frills, but when literally all we are doing was sleeping there, that was fine. The room and bathroom was clean, microwave and refridgerator, ac worked, room didn't smell weird, etc.

The one disappointment that we had was that the shortcut through the parking lot and jumping on the Lion King tram was no more. It was all gated off.:confused3 I think because of construction?

The good thing about no shortcut though, is that going the other way you go right by a 7-11, so we would stop every morning for drinks and snacks for the day. I think it saved us a bit of money.

I've never been to DLR so I am a bit confused by this, could you maybe explain a little better for a newbie? :)
