Alpine Inn, Super 8, or Comfort Inn & Suites?

Hi everyone! Since search is disabled, I decided to ask here. Has anyone stayed at the Alpine Inn, Super 8 (on Katella, or is the one on Disneyland Dr. better?), or Comfort Inn & Suites (on 300 E. Katella)? If so, what did you think? What's the breakfast like? Any pics? We're going in July and it will be my husband, 3 year old, and I. Thanks! :)

We've stayed at the Super 8 on Disneyland Drive about four times over the past 7 years (and will be staying there again next month).

The first time we stayed it was fine. The next time we stayed, it was kind of gross, so we stayed somewhere else for our DLR trips over the next couple of years. Then, night we ended up staying there while we were passing through because we couldn't find a room anywhere else...and found that they had remodeled, and it was a lot better than the previous time we'd been there.

We've been there two more times since then (so I guess we've been there 5 times in all). Once was Summer 2010...and it was nothing great, but it was acceptable...

* The last 3 times we've been there, we've found it to be cleaner than some places we've paid 3x as much for, per night; although I'll be honest and say the bottom of the bathroom door looked kind of grungy in January when we were there...

* The people in the office are REALLY nice. They've let us check-in early before. They are NOT so great about handling noise issues with bothersome guests. We've never had a problem personally...but in Summer of 2010 my father-in-law complained due to the people above them making lots of noise, and nothing was done to stop it...

* We don't usually utilize the breakfast (and we can't this time due to gluten restrictions...) but it seems they usually have day-old donuts, milk, and apples/oranges. Maybe they have more than that and I've just never seen it...my husband has brought back donuts a couple of times for the kids. Something to keep in mind: If you're going during peak-season (DL opening at 8am) and are planning to get in line at the security tables early...then you will miss the breakfast at Super 8 because they don't put it out before the time you'd have to leave.

* The pool is really small. We've only taken the kids to play in it three different times, and it was fine. The pool area is clean - it can be noisy in the evenings, but we've never been bothered by it (we're either not there in the evenings, or so tired we could sleep through a nuclear explosion..)...

*We've never had to park off-site, but it *can* get cramped if you're going at an extremely busy time (the last time we were there we had to park in the back...the tink half marathon was happening and the motel was full). There is potential to not have a parking spot, but it has never happened to us (and many other hotels in the area have the same potential of filling up and you having to park somewhere else). There is no additional fee for parking on-site, and that is nice.

*The motel is within walking distance of the trams (about 15 minutes). The added benefit to walking, aside from not having to pay for parking every day at the Mickey and Friends structure ($15 per day!), is that you hold your parking spot...so even if the hotel fills up that day, your parking space is safe. :)

*You can see the fireworks really good from the motel balcony. It was so nice to be able to watch them in pajamas, and then crawl straight into bed afterwards. We did that on 4th of July in 2010.

*The beds are ok. We sleep alright on them. There is a table with 2 chairs, a dresser under the television, a small fridge, and a microwave. One sink. Not a ton of space for luggage...a rod and a shelf above it, with one of those luggage unfolding things underneath (lol, sorry - can't think of what it's called :rotfl:)

*I personally spray the bathroom down with Lysol, and use Clorox wipes on doorknobs, faucet handles, tv remote, etc...but I do that at the place that costs $150 a night, too - it's just something I do.
* It's not the best you could do...but it's not the worst, either.

Anyway, hope that helps. We looked into staying at the Alpine last time too, but I read a bunch of reviews that said the beds were bad and the property VERY loud at night, so we just went back to Super 8 (we've had to skimp on the hotel portion of our trips lately..).

OH - I just noticed you're asking about the Comfort Inn...that was the place we paid $150 for (the kids' suite). Super 8 on Disneyland Drive is cleaner...but the bunkbeds/extra room were nice to have.

We stayed at the Super 8 on Katella. We were pleasantly surprised. I'll be there again in 2 weeks and 3 days (yay!) and I'm staying there again.

The room itself was fine. We had a 2-queen-bed room. As far as furniture, it was all a dark wood. There was 1 nightstand, a table with 2 chairs, and a dresser/armoure (sp??). It had a flat screen TV with an annoying line through the middle (security feature or cheap tv? no idea). For clothing space, there was the dresser (3 drawers) the armoure-thingy (like a 18" wide mini-closet), and then a typical wire hanger area with a shelf and the suitcase holder thingy. The vanity area was fine. One sink. A 2-cup coffee maker (or maybe 4 cups? small, at any rate), and a hairdryer.

The beds, specifically, are FANTASTIC... Just the right balance of soft and firm. And they are VERY generous with the pillows! :cloud9: They are HUGE pillows, and 4 per bed, which meant DD had one for her head and one for her "flopping" (she "must" flop over something when sleeping), and I had 2 for my head, 2 to use as a body pillow, and still had 2 more to lean back into. It was pillow heaven!

Other pluses: Only about a 10 minute walk over to DL. You cross over Harbor, and then go 2 (3?) blocks up. And one of those blocks is DCA, which made it seem like a shorter walk when you knew it was "just right there!" There's a free "breakfast" (muffins, donuts, fruit, juice, milk). You do have to tell them your room number, which was kind of odd! Close to a million restaurants, so if you are tired of the park food, or need a snack, there's a place to go. Our socks/feet didn't get gross while we were in the room.

Minuses: There was some noise from neighbors. You could clearly *hear* the fireworks, but couldn't see them. The hot water isn't "hot" at 9am-ish. It's tolerable, even sort of warm, but not that "oh, wow, that's hot!" More like a "Is that really as warm as it gets?" However, at night, DD had a HOT shower that lasted quite a while. There's a point on the walk home (for me), when I thought "aren't we there yet??" To be fair though, I thought that before we ever off DLR property ;) We also had an alarm clock that didn't work. The front desk can be chatty, which can be good or bad--I'm not much of a chatter when I'm checking in or checking out--just want to sign off the final bill and be done with it, and they wanted to know how we liked our stay, how we liked the parks, where we ate, what we did, when we were coming back, etc. Friendly chat, but annoying to me when we were running late!

Overall, for the price (about $50 a night), a few small annoyances weren't enough of a bother to keep me from staying here again.

The Alpine Inn is a small family owned motel. It is clean and friendly. The motel is well ranked with Tripadvisor.com.

I have stayed at the super 8 katella a couple of times. It is nice it has a heated pool and spa. I was suprised how clean the pool was. The rooms are nice too. There is a shuttle outside that takes you to the park if you dont want to walk. The shuttle cost four dollars for a day pass you can go back and forth all day for only 4.00 and they have a 3 day all day pass for 10.00. They have the numbewr to text at the stop to see when the next shuttle is coming. We would text from in our room to know when to go out there. I wouldn't stay any where but here.

The breakfast was good they had muffins and cerial. Its enough to start your days off. They have milk colfee and oj.

I stayed at the Comfort Inn in March. Very nice. Clean, comfortable. Didn't have breakfast as I was meeting family for breakfast, but they do have more than just muffins and juice. I haven't stayed at the others so can't compare. But I really liked Comfort Inn.

Did you walk to Disneyland, drive, or take a shuttle?

Thanks everyone for the info!!! It's very helpful! :thumbsup2
