just back from a week at Poly yesterday! an amazing trip. After 6 years requesting (and getting) Tahiti 3rd floor MKV, we arrived at check-in only to be told...Tuvalu 3rd floor.
At first we were a bit disappointed...until we got to the room. Oh my goodness!!! I forgot how great it is to be over the water and close to GCH. The walk to TTC was a little long, but never a big issue. I'll be posting some pics from our room soon. Also, mid-week, someone started a small fire in Tahiti with a hair dryer, so I'm glad we didn't get caught up in that mess - smoke filled some of the hallways and at the very least, the fire department was there for a few hours. Anyway, a great week - a little colder at night than usual and a day of rain (that didn't slow us down), but still an amazing Poly view and a great trip.

And cue Dawgdad with an endorsement for Tuvalu! :rotfl2:

While you've been gone lissiesmum, MsStinkerbelle and I have been saying while Tahiti has a glowing reputation, Tuvalu TPV/LV is a much overlooked gem. Of course we're thinking we're going to have to start keeping our mouths shut or there's going to be a flood of requests for Tuvalu, messing up availability for us! :rotfl2:

Glad you had a great time!

thanks Taylor, welcome back Dawg

After (too) much thought and research on our GV request, I just asked for Balcony, near the pool.

Leaving the rest to the gods..... Samoa? Tokelau? who knows....

I will be happy just to get us all there (and have a lapu lapu...):woohoo:

My DH finally gave in last night- we're going back in 2011 and we'll be at the Poly!!!! Dates still not in stone, hope to work that out tonight, but hoping for April 30- May 7!!

Ok. So I was set on Tahiti GV....but NOW I'm just not sure. (we stayed there in 2008 and enjoyed it a lot)

This time we will also have DD 1....who NEEDS a nap each day :cutie:...so when she naps, me or DH will be with her and the other will either take DD5 to the pool or something....I must have a balcony or patio....I'm thinking I like the patio idea more this time around....BUT I really liked how close Tahiti was to the TTC. BUT then I get to thinking, it's not that bad of a walk to the TTC from anywhere at the POLY.....right

I know everyone has their favorite longhouses....but could you tell me WHY? Also, having been in Tahiti and the rooms being a bit bigger, would I be disappointed in a "smaller" room?

Oh so many choices! :lmao:

THANKS in advance! :flower3:

Samoa may be an good option. The quiet pool is on one side and the volcano pool is on the other (so either way you're facing a pool!) The volcano pool side can have lovely views of the GF off in the distance. It is also close to the GCH. I haven't personally stayed there, but have read quite a few posts of ppl who've like the location.

We were in one of the "smaller" rooms and really, it wasn't that small! We were me, DH, DD18, DD7 and DD4 all in the room and we were fine. I had been really worried that we would feel like we were all on top of each other, but it wasn't like that at all.

Yay! I just had to chime in and say congrats! I just got the "go ahead" for the end of May 2011! I've got that oh so great feeling!

So we had to change our original plans for this past trip from Poly to CSR. Well to make it up to me DH said we could book 7nights at the Poly for my birthday in December so it's Dec. 11th to the 19th. WOO HOO!!!!! Although I may move it upa few days so that I miss the change in the higher rate for Christmas.

Suggestion for Mousekeeping envelopes:

Go to JoAnn's / Michael's / Hobby Lobby and look at the scrapbooking stickers. I bought a box of 8.5" x 5.5" envelopes at the dollar store, and give the kids markers and the stickers. They love to decorate the envelopes!

I write "Thank You For The Mousekeeping" on a piece of paper so that they have the proper spelling. And then, I let them have at it. LOL

What are your favorite things to do after check in at the Poly on your first day/evening?

Welcome back! So - I see you enjoyed Tuvalu.....but you are the one who talked me into Tahiti! :) So, I am dying to know - which longhouse do you like better now that you have hit Tuvalu? Also, do you notice a difference in the room size & did you miss not having 2 sinks? TIA!

OT - my daughter wants me to put a dancing banana in my post.

What are your favorite things to do after check in at the Poly on your first day/evening?

We did a "no-parks" day after arriving at noon last time, and will again next trip. What we did - lunch at Captain Cook's, took a monorail ride, got settled in room, went swimming, DD and I went to the GF salon and got her hair braided, dinner was at Kona (next time we'll be doing CM's though, that was the plan last time, but added a night), then relaxed at the Poly at night, watched the EWP and fireworks. Straight to bed and ready to hit the MK for RD in the AM!! (Lots of initials there, LOL)

What are your favorite things to do after check in at the Poly on your first day/evening?

Tiki torch lighting ceremony in the GCH
Dinner at 'Ohana or Kona
Swimming in the pools
Playing in the sand on the beach
Take a monorail trip around the lake
Take a boat ride on the lake
Watch the fireworks from the beach

Forgot the torch lighting! We did that on arrival day as well!

could you tell me where and when the torch lighting occurs? We are coming for our first stay at Poly in Oct., but are swinging through for an evening (staying at POR for 3 nights the end of March) on Poly grounds with dinner at Kona, water parade, etc. Wanting to get the kids and DH excited about our fall stay! Thanks for any advice! I'm beyond excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

Traditional torch lighting ceremony complete with authentic torch lighter, drums and chants is held each evening Tuesday through Saturday at 6:00pm.

It really is kind of a big presentation! Kids love it and if you read back in the thread you will see their are quite a few adult female admirers! :rotfl:
