Aloha! ***Welcome to the NEW Poly FAQ***

We had a great trip down, and our flight actually landed 45 mins early! I was so excited to have the extra time, and crossed my fingers for good luck at the DME area. This year, they had some new checkin process where you didn't have to wait in those long winding lines. I was sent directly to the Poly/CR/WL/GF podium, he took my tix, and I waited maybe five minutes before we boarded the bus and were off....then, we were the first stop they dropped off! :cool1: I think we arrived about an hour and a half before I had planned...now to see if our room would be ready!

We arrived at the GCH around 11:00am, and our room was already ready for us! I had knots in my stomach while the CM was punching in those buttons to find out my room assignment and she came out with third floor Tuvalu! :wizard: There was a convention going on at the Poly this past week and they were all put in Tahiti apparantly so she thought we would be better suited to Tuvalu (and I'm so glad she did!).

The walk from the GCH to Tuvalu was maybe 3 or 4 minutes...so convenient! I loved walking around the marina and seeing all of the boats coming and going, and we talked to many people who were out on their patios in front of Fiji. I must say, if I were to request GV, it would be Fiji. So close to GCH and beautiful views on either side. Depending on our mood, we would either walk alongside the marina, or the other side of Fiji facing the beach and the GF. Both were beautiful walks and so peaceful and quiet (on a side note, I would have to say the worst GV on property would be in Tuvalu. When we entered the bldg, I felt bad for the people who had GV because the view is of dying vegetation, overgrown trees, and the Fiji bldg. Definitely not a view I would be happy with. :sad2:)

I like the remoteness of Tuvalu. You don't hear the pool noise, screaming, music from the pool activities, etc. There is no one walking in front of the building as there is only one small strip of land and then it is the beautiful lagoon. It is a really small longhouse, I think there were only 16 rooms on our floor. I loved looking down either side of the hall on the first floor while waiting for the elevator because all you can see is the lagoon from either end. :cool1: When I pulled back the curtains the first time I almost passed out! The pictures I have seen do not do a TPV justice! In Tuvalu, because you see nothing but water, you feel like you are on a balcony of a ship, instead of in a hotel. THere is nothing obstructing your view, and the view is outstanding! The castle was literally straight across from our room, which was #3407. We were three rooms away from the end, towards the GF. There is a little island in front which definitely would obstruct your view from the lower floors, but in our room, we had a full castle view because there is a little U shaped cut in the trees and our room was right in front of it so the castle was in full view. The further you go to the right of Tuvalu, towards the marina, I would think you see less of the bottom of the castle because the trees are taller on the island as you go towards the right of the building. I could also see Space Mountain, a few glowy lights from Tomorrowland, some of the bus stop, Main Street Station, the tip of BTMR, and of course, the beautiful GF. The monorail was a stone's throw from our room and I loved to watch it go into the GF monorail station. I could always hear it before I saw it and I knew when it was coming. My DD loved to watch the different colored monorails go by :) We also got to see a few wedding parties go through the wedding pavilion. I felt so bad one night because it was absolutely pouring, and there was the bride, out in the rain!

The sounds of the MK were amazing. I loved watching the TTC ferries come and go, and the smaller boat launches as well. We heard both horns, and could barely hear it from inside the room...it was barely audible at all. The sliding doors keep the sound out really well! On the nights when the Spirit of Aloha, was performing, it was fun to go out on the balcony and listen to the show. We could even see some of the fire dancing stuff from the stairwell outside the longhouse as we walked down! Once we closed the sliders for bed, I couldn't hear the music from the luau. The only thing you can hear really loud through the sliders is the music from the EWP...it's so loud, it could wake the dead! :scared1: :goodvibes

I've got to do some errands, but will try to continue some more later this evening...

We enjoyed our second floor room in Tuvalu. Even though we didn't have a balcony, which we didn't miss, the TP view was fabulous!

Lissiesmom, welcome home! There is another thread on the resort board right now, and it details a lack of housekeeping attention and poor staff service. It certainly does not reflect that aloha spirit people stay at the Poly for. How did you find the housekeeping? Were the CMs friendly and helpful? I'm seriously considering making a change in our reservations. We work too hard to afford our trip, and I don't want grumpy CMs and a dirty room to spoil our stay, especially at those prices!

If you look on the resort board, you will find complaints about every resort. We have never had any problems at the Poly. If I did encounter problems like others have stated, I would nicely make sure things were taken care of properly.

What was the thread that was started about HK? I would like to read it! Do you have the link?

Hi Lucysdad!

I found the housekeeping immaculate. The bathroom was spotless and my toiletries were replenished daily, and our mousekeeper left plenty of extra towels. We never got any towel animals (which made DD a little sad), but our mousekeeper always arranged DD's stuffed animals nicely on the bed and did some scalloping with the smaller bath towels in the sink area. The room was always vacuumed and she replaced our glasses daily. I didn't find any dust or things under the bed, towels in heaps or any of the other things people have been mentioning lately. I even forgot and left $50 lying on one of the counters, and it was still there when I returned :cool1:. The only pitfalls of my room (which had nothing to do with HK) was our fridge had that overheating problem that I had read about. Make sure you leave the cabinet doors open if you put stuff in your fridge. My DD closed them one night without me noticing and when I went to get our milk the next morning the fridge was not cold and our milk had spoiled :( I also had requested turndown service and was told I did not have to call every night, and we didn't have turndown show up once :( Luckily, I brought my own little chocolates just in case this happened and I did my own turndown for my DD! :woohoo: Other than that, I had great experiences with Mousekeeping. One of the days it poured, one of the mousekeepers even helped us out outside...it was a downpour, and we needed to get to the Kona Cafe, so we cut through Fiji, but you can't get through Tonga house because it's locked so a Mousekeeper noticed us struggling through the rain and gave us a few towels to drape over us then unlocked Tonga so we wouldn't have so far to run in the rain. She was a lifesaver! (and of course I bought ponchos the next day so we wouldnt' have this problem again!).
I would wholeheartedly recommend the Poly, and now that I've stayed both GV in Hawaii and TPV in Tuvalu, I would choose Tuvalu again in a heartbeat :)

Our weather while we were there was not the greatest unfortunately. The first two days, it was in the mid 70's and we got one good day by the pool and playing on the beach. By the third day it was 60's and showered all afternoon, and from there it went downhill. It was in the high 50's for three days, and two of those days it rained at least half the day. I'm so glad we paid the extra for the TPV because we ended up spending a lot of time in our room. We'd spend the morning in the parks, and come back early afternoon to get out of the rain and warm up. One positive though, is there were zero crowds during the week. On Monday, I felt like it was just us and some other "special guests". We rode BTMR 10 times in a row, and didn't wait more than 15 mins for any other rides. We saw the whole park (at least everything we could ride) by 1:00pm. Can't beat the last week of February for crowds. Not sure if it was the cold/rain or both, but we got to ride everything we wanted, then had plenty of time to spend at the Poly to relax.

Our dining was top notch at the Poly. We ate at Kona Cafe twice: once for breakfast, once for dinner (and both in the same day :goodvibes). Breakfast I decided on the Big Kahuna and got all Macadamia nut pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes. I thought this was a great price for $11.99. The pancakes were as good as everyone said. I also ordered the press pot Kona coffee and was not impressed. I'll take my Dunkins over fancy Hawaiian coffee any day :lmao: ! For dinner, I ordered the coconut almond chicken. It was one of my favorite meals of the trip! It was crunchy on the outside, but really juicy and moist on the inside. The accompanying salad was also to die for. It had tossed greens with sliced strawberries, pineapples, almonds, and a honey lime vinaigrette. I found the recipe and look forward to trying to recreate it at home :) DD got the Mickey pancakes for bfast (and they were big enough for two children to eat...she hardly put a dent in them!), and then got chicken noodle soup and a cheeseburger for dinner. Nothing special, but plenty of food if your child is a big eater :)

We ate at Capt Cook's a few times. I finally tried the Tonga Toast....and my verdict...too sweet for me! The first couple of bites I really enjoyed but the more I tried to eat, I just couldn't eat much more. I don't have much of a sweettooth, but I could understand why most people love it! :thumbsup2 We ordered the noodle bowl, which is still my favorite thing there, and I tried the adult grilled cheese one night, which was soooo good. Ooey gooey on the inside, and crunchy grainy bread on the outside! Yum yum! The dole whip was always a treat, and we also love their chocolate croissants. Always hits the spot.

I was weary about eating at 'Ohana for dinner again. We went last year and I wasn't thrilled with the food, and my DD was not interested in any of the fun things going on around the restaurant. But, I really wanted to give it another try because so many people rave about it and I'm so glad we went! We were given a table right by the window looking out over the water and the castle, and we were seated around 6:45. The food this year was fresh and delicious...I ate so much my DD was looking at me funny, and since we've been home, she's told people about how much I ate there! I ate that whole bowl of salad and at least a dozen of the skewered shrimp. THe pork was to die for and I loved the chicken wings. And the bread pudding...ahhh. I could have eaten three helpings if I hadn't stuffed myself on the shrimp! My DD got up this year and danced, sang, and had fun with the other children. And we even got to watch Wishes from our table which was a neat experience. I missed watching it from the quiet of our room, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. :goodvibes

We loved watching WIshes every night...it was the highlight of every day. WHen I asked DD what her favorite part of the trip was, she said it was watching Wishes and the EWP from our room every night. That and the "fireguy"! We actually watched the EWP twice each night. It was right in front of Tuvalu, and you could see the entire parade unobstructed. Then, it moved on to the GF where we could see and hear it again :) It was a nice treat that we noticed the second night!

The only pitfall to staying at Tuvalu I can think of is the walk to the TTC. We went to Epcot twice and the first day I tried to walk there in the rain pushing DD's stroller. In the cold, pelting rain it took a good fifteen minutes from start to finish. On the way back, we switched monorails and arrived at the GCH five minutes later :) The next time we went it was raining again and I decided to try to take the resort monorail to the TTC to see how long it would take. From our longhouse to the TTC took about fifteen minutes, the same time to walk to the TTC...on a cold, rainy day, or if you're just looking to relax with a coffee while making your way to the TTC, taking the resort monorail around isn't a bad option if you're staying in Tuvalu :)

That's all I can think of for now, so if you can think of any questions, I'll be happy to help :) I would absolutely stay in Tuvalu again, I much more enjoyed the location, the peace and quiet, and being surrounded by water. Our last stay was in Hawaii, GV, and I liked the Tuvalu building much better!

Lissiesmum -- Welcome back!!! I am so happy to hear that you had a great time at the Poly!!! Your room sounds lovely...:cloud9:, crowd levels wonderful...:goodvibes, and I'm really enjoying reading your trip reports!

Glad that you had a better time at 'Ohana this year -- I could make a dinner from the salad, the wings, and that wonderful dessert!!!:cloud9:

Lissiesmom,

Love hearing about your trip so far! Thanks for the tips on the monorail! I wish we could upgrade to TPV but hopefully we get one of the nicer garden views.

Welcome back Lissiesmum! I feel as though I could have written your trip report. We loved Tuvalu too! I just hope now that others are discovering how great it is, it doesn't become too popular! Maybe we should start spreading some nasty rumours about Tuvalu! :lmao:

Welcome back :flower3:

I am glad you had a nice trip.

When you are unpacked and settled and you may experience PPDS, Post Poly Depression Syndrome but just know we are all here for you :grouphug:

Can't wait for pics. Thanks for the reviews :thumbsup2

I read awhile back that there was a specific person you should contact if you had some health concerns that may need accommodating while staying at the resort. I can find no information about this. Depending how my Fibromyalgia is doing in May I may need some more intense cleaning because my immune system goes down and not only do I get sick more easily I also become sensitive to many cleaning products.:sad2: I definitely need to be in Tahiti to be close to the TTC. An extra 10 minute walk both ways can be just enough to require me to need an ECV which I desperately want to avoid. This is a bit much to put in a reservation request ;) and I will only be a pain if I need to be. Anyone remember what the title of this CM is? It might have been in the thread we filled up awhile back. Thanks!

So how do you recommend getting to MK for 8:05 AM Crystal Palace reservations?

We will be driving to AK for our ressies at Tuskar House but obviously that would not make sense for MK. I "assumed" the resort monorail starts runing at 7:30 AM. Otherwise how do people get to CP for early ressies?

Hi Sunshine, that quote was about the transportation at the TTC....the buses, express monorail and ferry at the TTC do not start early for EMH.

The resort monorail on the other hand starts by 7am every day whether EMH or not.

We stayed at the Polynesian last week as well. Our room was neat and pretty.:wizard:

I don't think there is a specific CM. There is a department that handles special needs. Call DRC/CRO and explain your needs. They will call the department for you and mark your reservation. You may receive a call back if they have more questions of your needs.

BTW if you booked gardenview the rooms in Rapa Nui are the closest to the TTC.

Lissiesmum, welcome back. I looked for your backpack while we were at the Polynesian but didn't run into you. I wonder if you walked by our room in Fiji? Oh, and we landed early a week ago Sunday too!:cool1:

carlnix30, the breakfast sliders were little sandwiches. I think there were two to an order but we didn't get them. Egg, cheese and maybe some meat? on what appeared to be light whole wheat buns. They looked good from a distance.:)

johnsonet, great pictures. Thanks for sharing!

Unless you need an accessible room, they will still not guarantee any building. I suppose they figure that an extra few minutes of walking compared to the hours in the parks are not significant. I would highly suggest an ECV if there is any question.

Rapa Nui has accessable rooms and when we were there 2 years ago there were several ECV's in the hallway plugged in charging up...

I also ordered the press pot Kona coffee and was not impressed.

Neither my husband nor I enjoy this stuff. Not sure why everyone raves about the Kona coffee. It always tastes "burned" to me--as if the pot has sat too long on the hot plate. We really love a good strong coffee and grind our own beans at home; but the Kona isn't something we look forward to at the Polynesian. I also dislike the Nescrape` stuff in the lounge, but have found a double espresso or the espressso mixed with the regular coffee out of the machine are tolerable options.

Glad you had such a nice trip lissiesmum!

Thanks for the TR lissiesmum! Glad you had a great trip even though the weather didn't cooperate. :)

I agree with this. While it's not fun trying to get around on an ECV, they can be a lifesaver if you're having medical problems. :goodvibes If you check the disABILITIES board, they have some tips for room request, etc. :)

I agree with both of you, we bring our own already ground coffee and filters to brew in the room everyday.:rotfl:

Oh goodness I want to go to WDW again and stay at the Polynesian! I had a huge trip booked for December 2009 but I dumped my boyfriend of 3 years (a huge blessing!) and moved to California and got a Premium Annual Passport. Last time I was at WDW I stayed at the Contemporary Resort but I prefer the tropical theme much more than a contemporary theme. My dream is to be able to afford to go back to the Polynesian with my current boyfriend (who also loves Disney... unlike the other 3 year dud). It just seems so fun and romantic! It's definitely on my to do list!
