Today's question...FYI, one of our sons is physically disabled and travels to the parks in his wheelchair... Am I correct that the monorail stop is on the 2nd floor? If this is the case, regardless of what floor we are on in Hawaii, we'll still have to take the elevator to access the monorail, right?

Just thinking...Hawaii, say 3rd floor, elevator down to lounge for bfast, back up to get ready, down to ground, to GCH, elevator up to monorail...wondering if grounf floor would be a little bit more convenient?

What a lovely view! I love the views with the beach and the palm trees. I didn't think there were lots of "bad" views on that side of the building. So glad you are happy with your room! And thanks for posting -- it's always nice to see the photos!

Hmmmm....

Yes, the monorail is on the 2nd floor in the main building, so you will have to go down to 1st floor Hawaii, go to the GCH then up the elevator to the monorail.

The Hawaii building has a "concierge" room on every level. Many people request 3rd floor because of the balcony, but if I were traveling with a wheelchair, I would either choose the 1st or 2nd floor. The main lounge area where all the food is put out is on the 2nd floor, so that would be the most convenient floor for lounge access. The concierge desks are on the 1st floor (under the lounge), and that floor would be the most convenient for going to/from the room to the pool, monorail, etc.

I think you're right in questioning the 3rd floor, since there is a bit of up and down over there. The 3rd floor of the lounge is just a little loft with a couple of seats and a tv -- all the food and drink is down below.

I hope I'm explaining this in a way that makes sense. Good luck with your decision.

Wow. The pics are great!! Keep them coming I cannot wait to get to Disney. I think I'm more excited than our 6 and 3 y/o's. From what I gather I think Tahiti would be the guest house to request. I know it's just that, a request but it doesn't hurt to try, right?

Well, room service is really kona in the GCH if you like or have eaten at kona and liked it... Then room service is great! When we go, we always order one night of room service and sit on the balcony sip our wine and eat a quiet meal! Very romantic. The night before we leave we order breakfast room service! That is just great. They bring a toaster so you can toast your own toast ( I hate cold toast) and the food is always hot!

One of ours is in a stroller/wheelchair so I requested 1st or second floor. I figure that this way we'll either have easy access to the lounge or to the outdoors.

I would contact the IPO and explain your situation to them so you have a better chance of getting the room you need.

Hmmmm....

you can walk from the hawaii building to the TCC behind Rapa Nui and that monorail station is completely accessible with just ramps to walk up - no elevator or stairs, plus it is a non stop ride to MK instead of stopping at the GF

Does anyone know if the Polynesian does anything special on Easter? We will be there over Easter.

I think we've only been there for Easter once. I remember they had a design your own Easter basket booth set up on the second floor of the GCH. I ordered one for each of our two "kids" along on that trip and the baskets were delivered on Easter morning. It was some years ago now though.

We've booked a MKV room for our trip in April. Do these rooms have balconies? Are the views really that good? This is our first trip so I am really trying to learn as I go.

All first floor rooms have roomy patios rather than balconies. All third floor rooms have balconies. TPV are only in three buildings.....Tahiti, Tuvalu and Aotearoa. Of these, only Tahiti has balconies on the second floor but it is a much larger building than the other two so if you get second floor TPV you have an excellent chance of having a balcony. If a balocny is important to you, I would just request one and not worry about requesting a specific floor.

Oh, so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I think it is just lovely but I'm sure there are some guests who would carp about seeing a tree trunk etc.. Perhaps the new category is just to make sure those most demanding of guests can get their preference but pay a bit more than the rest of us who enjoy the all the views on that side of Hawaii.

Hmmmm....

Another option to the MK is the large ferry from the TTC.

Lots of families have strollers and quite a few people use the elevators anyway so I don't think having a wheelchair will greatly affect your experience. The wide automatic doors into the main entrance of Hawaii are great BTW.

I wondered when it would be put out there. . .his birthday and our daughter's are back to back. He said he was retiring around their birthdays. It is a sad day for the Polynesian. Dick is definitely a major draw for the concierge level. He will be missed. . .

I'm so happy for Dick. You're so right Tess, he has been such as asset to the Polynesian. Selfishly, I'm sad we won't get to say aloha to him as we are staying gardenview this trip.

We had a HC room on the 1st floor in Tahiti blg MK view, we found it very convenient, the slider to the patio had a ramp to be able access the patio and they had a button inside the room to enable you to automatically open the door to the hallyway with out having to try to prop it open while trying to push the WC out.

Congratulations on your first trip ever to Disney! I am envious of you! I remember my first trip! Couldn't wait an then thought I was dreaming when I finally boarded the plane and it all fell into place from there! I wish I could go back in time and experience the first visit all over again!

I'm right there with you ... anxiously waiting for June 1! In the mean time I've done our itinerary and am planning the kids' new autograph books, thinking of maybe making them some t-shirts ... It's crazy how a WDW vacation takes on a life of it's own!
