ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: October 2013

I posted about this about a month ago, but I know there are lots of people who probably missed it, and Guitarob has messaged me about people asking about updating the Poly thread. Just so everyone knows, I am working on it. He asked me quite a while ago if I would take over. We have decided that with all of the changes it's time to update the thread even though we're not yet the page count when a thread is close to getting locked (due to capacity) and a new thread started.

I have started working on the information but wanted to wait until the switch to the new board happened because I wasn't sure how things would transfer. Then by that point I realized my family's trip was fast approaching so I might as well wait and get all of the pictures I need while we're there, plus I can get some first hand information on the changes.

So, for those who have been asking Rob, yes, a new thread is coming! My family will be at the Poly from the 13-21 and then I will get working on the new thread as soon as we get back. I appreciate everyone's patience! Mahalo!

Looking forward to hear all about your trip!! Have a wonderful time!! :sunny:

I am having a long going debate on which resort (WL vs the Poly). I'd like to go the latter part of April with DD4 and DS1. Sorry for asking this a few times - seems like info keeps changing daily!

Tikiman's review had me worried about the amount of construction - but his podcast with Enchanted Tiki Talk sounded much more positive. Anyone been there lately to help me make a final decision? I love the idea of the monorail - but I'm worried about the amount of construction for naps/pool/relaxation. We've never been before so I don't have a good frame of reference (good or bad). I'm willing to put up with some walls/construction trucks/etc. But I would like to feel relaxed.

The close proximity to the monorail seems pretty awesome. Walking with a stroller full of tired kids sounds nice compared to a bus.

I have no idea why this is such a tough call! Just want to make it fun for the kids without making mom a wreck!!

Another "is there enough time from the airport to ...."

Staying at the poly in Sept. Family friends arrive @ 540pm in Orlando. Do you think they will have enough time to make it to Poly for Ohana Dinner at 7:50 pm by Magical Express?

2. Was hoping to watch fireworks and water parade afterwards on the beach. Do you think there's enough time to eat and see? If not, and we requested a table by the window, how well can you see and do you know if they pipe Wishes in the restaurant?

1. I normally allow 2 hours from landing to check in, and there have been times it's taken that long, so they will probably be cutting it close for dinner. But doable if all the stars align. We've also always had to wait for our table at Ohana, so as long as someone is there to check in at your ADR time, they could always meet you when they arrive.

2. What time is Wishes that night - 9 or 10? If 9, there is little chance you'll be done in time, even if seated at your ADR time. 'Ohana is usually about a 90 minute meal for us. And trust me, you want to savor it! If 10:00 Wishes, you will definitely have time to make it to the beach after dinner. You can also see the fireworks from the restaurant, but not sure if the music is piped in?

HI all, I have booked my first ever stay at the Poly and could lots of advice. We are staying club level with a park view room. We are staying here for 4 days before we cruise. We are also celebrating our anniversary and my birthday while we are there. Anything special that you could recommend? Things I should while we are there? This is also our first stay onsite. Looking forward to lots of help and advise. TIA

It would be cutting it close. And they'd prob want to get checked in before dinner, so depends on how long that takes too, and drop off their carry on in room. Is it possible to get a latter time?

Watch Wishes and Electric Water Parade from Lounge or beach! Book a special dinner, maybe at Citricos in GF. Just a monorail stop away, and we enjoy walking back to Poly after dinner. Pretty walk along the lake, and helps digest!

:worship: Thanks so much for all your work! Have a great trip, and post lots of pics :thanks:

We are in the process of picking between SSR, AKL (both of which we've stayed at) or Poly for October and can't decide. The construction going on at the east pool worries me, I don't want to look around on vacation and have everywhere I see be a work zone.

SOOOOO excited!!! Our 2nd trip to Disney and we booked for Aug 28 - Sep 6 (2 rooms standard) .... What a magical deal that was! ;)

We stayed at the Beach Club this last trip and while I love it there, the bed left much to be desired about killed us... think concrete lol Please tell me I will have better beds here.... :)

@clambert1273 - I remember liking the beds at BC…? Any deluxe is better than my experience at POR though! Really did not like those beds...

was so bad... I mean bruised hips bad... my husband likes firm and he has NOT stopped complaining yet. He still has shouldner/neck pain from sleeping there... was god awful bed. I just can't imagine the beds at Poly would be like that lol

Was it one of the refurbished rooms, @clambert1273 ? We were there a few years back so maybe they've changed mattresses? I would hate to think they changed them for the worse though!

Nope it wasn't refurbished.... that is why we booked the Poly this time because even though I adore BC and the pool, my husband REFUSED to stay there again :(

Yikes! Sorry you had a not so magical stay at BC, but congrats on booking the Poly! Hopefully, you enjoy it!!

lol Oh no, I loved my stay there regardless (who wouldn't!!!) just made for long nights :) We are stoked to get this opporunity at the Poly because who knows if I can ever score that price again lol

Guessing there's no chance the main pool will be finished by the end of April? We have BC booked for the first week of May but just found out we have to change our dates...we've never stayed at the Poly so I'm considering it, but we like to swim a lot so the pool is very important!
From what I hear, the main pool will be open then (early Apr). Construction for the quiet pool is slated to begin mid April. Although I haven't gotten mine yet, others booked at the Poly this year have received their letter with this info.
