ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: October 2013

We are headed back to Poly in late October of this year and am considering CL GV thanks to the magical offer we heard about on these boards.

My question, what room(s) or locations should we request? I know the 3rd floor has balconies, first has patios and the lounge is on second. Other than that, I am clueless. The CL GV is our only option...not willing to pay for TPV, but have heard so much about how you all enjoy CL. I think this will be perfect for us as we want a nice, relaxing vacation as we don't do Disney every year. I have heard Tikiman has some favorite rooms as well...however, I can't find what those are and maybe they are the lagoon side anyway. Any advice is appreciated!

The quiet pool is going down for a refurb after the main pool reopens. I'm not sure if it will still be going on in October, but you might want to consider requesting the lagoon side (because of the bungalows several rooms on that side that used to be classed as LV have now been changed to GV)

Me and my sister are headed for a weeklong stay at Poly on July 25! We've been wanting to stay here forever, and we've saved up for years so we can celebrate our birthday this year at our dream resort! We're so excited, we seem more like ten year olds than adults.

Just a few questions though, if I want to request rooms that are right across from the pool, which building would I request? Me and my sister plan on taking long pool breaks in the afternoon and would love a room on the first floor right by the pool to walk out and enjoy. Also, with the new bungalows out over the water, does it pretty much ruin watching Wishes from the beach? It's something we've always wanted to do and now that we'll be able to do it, it we're a little bummed it might not be all that great of a view.

Is the breakfast with Stitch still a thing that happens after all the remodeling? Stitch is our favorite character, and we'd love to have a meal with him!

And last question, promise! Would it be better to get the dining plan (1 qs & 1 ts meal a day) or pay for club level and just head back and munch on things there and supplement shared meals as needed?

If you want to be right across from the pool request Samoa, main pool side.

Whether to get DP or CL would depend on how much you think you might spend on food (eg. are you & your sister big eaters?) We have found the regular dining plan too much food and now get the QS dining plan. That might be an option too. You can still find lots of options on that plan that aren't just burgers and fries, and it's less expensive!

Are there microwaves in the room?

I like eggs for breakfast and real eggs. I was thinking I could make hard boiled eggs in a microwave. If not maybe I can rig something up with the coffee machine???

The rest of my family really doesn't eat right when they wake up. I will buy a few things from GG like eggs (if I can make them in my room), cereal, milk, water, juice, fruit, bread, PB.

Microwaves are not standard in the rooms. I have heard you can request them and they are available on a first come first served basis.

A few photos from the Poly CL lounge earlier this month . . .

Great pics, thanks for posting. I would say the view is still really nice, even if not quite as it was.

Has anyone seen an iphone 6 poly phone case in the gift shop?

Thanks!

There were about 8 choices at each of the hotel shops and at the parks. I did not find one as much as I loved by Dooney and Bourke one so I am still waiting. There are some on disneystore.com too.

That was last week by the way.

Ditto

Agreed, really hard to find iPhone 6 cases anywhere in WDW this past December. The one exception is in the tech store in Downtown Disney, they can make practically any design for an iPhone 6, with the option of personalizing as well. I'm pretty sure they had the Poly design, but not 100% sure. They did have the Boardwalk, which is where we were staying that trip. But they literally had well over 100 designs. We decided not to do it, though, so I can't say how it compares to the premade cases.

Has anyone stayed in one of the larger suites at the poly?

We have or booked for October 2015....just switched our reservations and are curious. I can't find many reviews.

Any input is appreciated!

Hi, I'm not sure I understand the Club Level.

I reserved a standard view room and just checked in online. Under requests there was an option to select "Hawaii", which I understand is all CL. I checked the box.

Any chance it gets fulfilled? Or am I better off making a different request? As far as I know, I didn't pay for club level anywhere.

PS it's so helpful to see recent pictures. Thanks to all who post them!

Try PM-ing Eastern. She just got a free upgrade to a suite in the Tonga building. (Last month)

I haven't seen anyone else post staying there.

I appologize, I was going to get pics last week but it didn't happen.

Our flight was 2 hours late so when ME pulled up to poly, dd and I jumped off and had lunch THEN we took the mono to MK and boat to WL to check in.

We were so tired from our early departure I figured I would do it later but we ended up canceling our other Kona lunch.

Dd was disappointed the waterfall was gone:sad1:

I loved the new lobby! So spacious:cheer2:

So like most either you love it (me) or tolerate it(dd):rotfl:

Has anyone that's been there recently noticed how far along the main pool is from completion? I was thinking of staying in may but my kids love to swim more than anything else in Disney! Are they close to a completion date? Lol how is the small pool? Very small?

Sorry, no pictures. The CM's were excellent. There was not ANYTHING that was too much trouble for them to do for you. We rarely saw anyone in Tonga. A few times we saw folks getting some breakfast goodies. A few days we were the only people staying in the building.
We heard no construction noise in the room but we were gone early in the morning and usually not back until later. It was a MAGICAL experience.

Steve posted something on his facebook page yesterday about this.

If I remember right, there are many people saying different dates.

I believe he thought the worst case scenario would be June. On schedule would be Mid-Apiril. However, anyone familiar with construction knows things happen and schedules can change. Basically, if you are would be devestated if it could be under construction, you may not want to book Poly. Still too far out to guarantee a specific date.

DW and I are taking our chances and planning to book a DVC room for early May. However, we understand the pool may not be done and kno the resort will still have some construction going on.

There are plenty of pics out there but I don't think its too small. As big as most hotel pools. In November when main pool was closed it was not at all busy.

Once my kids got big we skipped the crowds of the main pool and just use this pool. Towels, seating and bathrooms are all right there. Water is usually nice and warm too!

I noticed this a few weeks ago when I did online check-in and asked Tikiman about it (because you're right, Hawaii is CL only) He says it's an error on the online check-in form and shouldn't be offered as an option if you're booked standard. While there is always a chance you might get an upgrade, he said he's been told you will probably not and will just miss out on requesting a longhouse for the room category that you're booked for.
