ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: June 2013

I honestly don’t think they know or have been told. I don’t believe they have any control over what happens when. It would be like the Club Level Manager being able to control when Hawaii longhouse gets renovated. They are told by another division of Disney what is going to happen and when. There might be some things they can’t tell you but for the most part I believe they do their best to keep the guests informed about what is going on. If anyone calls the resort number then we know the stories are all over the place because they are told even less being an offsite call center. Remember when just a short time ago they were saying there was no construction and that people were being asked to move resorts because they were overbooked?

I did see that they sent out letters regarding the construction and where it will be etc...and that is a good thing. I wish they would be a little bit more forthcoming with the pool issue and the GCH. Disney is aware of all the boards related to them and they have to know that rumors are running rampant and that in the long run it will hurt business at the Poly if the rumors aren't cleared up. I know cast members are aware of the boards and I would venture to guess the Exec's in CA do too. Disney knows all. LOL

I don’t believe that is true. If you look at my latest article you can see that the proposed bungalows extend to about half the Hawaii beach so at some point they will have to close off that part of the beach that is next to sunset pointe. Also who knows what type of equipment they will need to put supports under water off the beach. I guess we will know soon enough.

The good thing is the resort will not be without a pool. It has two pools and I have not seen anything that says that the East pool will be affected.

The letter that went out does say Sunset point and part of the beach which I took to mean the beach in front of Tahiti because if it isn't there are going to be a TON of very angry people who are paying for CL views that are not going to get the view they paid for. Disney needs to clear this one up as to WHICH part of the beach and WHEN.

We are arriving in mid October and whether or not the construction is going on, we are not going to change resorts. The Poly is my husband's favorite resort. This is most likely our last visit before the big changes happen with the DVC bulldozer. :sad1:

Sometimes too many changes ruin what was great about the resort in the first place. We'll see.

We are going to have a wonderful vacation no matter what! Que sera sera.

I agree and I am just going off of some things I was told by people working on the project and what some have been told by IPO. Someone posted a conversation from IPO that said they were moving people with TPV down to the west end of Hawaii to get better views. That supports the information I got that the work at sunset point would extend in front of Hawaii longhouse as the permits show. Here is a crude rendering I did to show approximately where the permits show the bungalows.

I am at the poly from 10/3-10/8 and just got the letter in the mail about sunset point and beach. It seems to me that they are doing the best they can.

I wondering why I have not yet gotten the letter :confused3 We are staying 9-21 thru 9-27. We have a GV CL room, but really was looking forward to using the lounge to watch WISHES. I really hope that the view will still be perfect and I am not looking at cranes and things. I guess I did not realize that the bungalows were going down that far. I guess I wont get any pixe dust this trip to be upgraded to TPV or LV :lmao:

I don't see the bungalows popping up out of the water in a week so who knows how much will be going on in that location when you are there. I just wanted people to realize it was not going to be just affecting the beach at Tahiti.

I am going 9/14-9/21 and have not gotten a letter either. I'm am thinking/hoping we won't be affected.

This is my family's first week long Disney vacation and are really hoping for it to be special! I was also secretly hoping for some pixie dust too and I guess that won't be happening!

Chin up! Lets make the most of it while there's no construction (we hope)!

Thanks so much for such an awesome site and advice Tikiman!!!!!

I am seriously on your site everyday and have found it to be so helpful for someone new to the Poly. You're information has definitely pumped my family up for this trip!!!!

From which longhouse is best for us to things to do at the resort, we've always reference your website!!

We have a fall trip booked to the Polynesian. Earlier this year I saw something posted about iced coffee at the resort food courts. I am thinking mocha and french vanilla iced. Has anyone noticed if there was iced coffee at Captain Cook's if so was it available for the refillable mugs? Or for any of you with upcoming trips this September possibly you could take a peek if you happen to be in Captain Cook's?

This is the image that scares me. For anyone who has ever witnessed large contruction projects (reshaping a beach and putting in over water bungalows is a pretty hefty project), they are limited on what they can do to hide the work. Especially if its suspended over the water.

I don't see how they can prevent anyone from standing on the beach from seeing a large construction site smack in front of them. Lets face it, the pristine view from the beach at the Poly is pretty much over. Even when completed, you're not going to have an unimpeded view. There will be bungalows, etc between you and your view.

That's my worry about work on the GCH, if that is true and ever happens. Its such a high profile spot, it would be hard not to be disappointed/impacted if you're staying there during that project.

Then again... I think about this stuff ahead of time, but when I get there I have the type of personality where it doesn't bug me. So I'm not sure why I even stress about it.

Keep in mind this is what they pulled permits for but I have been told that they may not build all 20 of them.

If they build all 20 of them it is going to kill the view from Hawaii unless you are on the top floor. I cannot understand WHY they would do this? If you are on the bottom floor you are basically going to be looking right at a bungalow. They will no longer be able to call those rooms lagoon or TPV because it wont be. This is a BIG mistake on their part. There is no way I would pay for TPV or LG if these things go up the way the permit shows.

I'm guessing that's part of the plan. Maybe the 3rd floor and bungalows will be TPV and LV while the 1st and 2nd floors will be standard view. Just a thought. Who knows what all will happen.

I hear they have it. We are going in a few weeks and I would be more than happy to find out more info for you and report back :)

They will still be considered Lagoon view. If they can still see the beach and part of the water off to the side they will still fall into the category of lagoon view. There are rooms in Hawaii that Palm trees use to block the view and they were still considered lagoon view.

They may be considered lagoon view but people are going to be pretty unhappy to pay those prices and get a view of a bungalow. I know I would not be happy. Lagoon view to me at least means an unobstructed view of the lagoon not a beach, a bit of water and a bungalow. I know I will be sad if they go through with all of this because it will just change the Hawaii building too much.

I do agree that it seems wrong to label it LV, call it partial LV maybe with a reduced price from the price of a full LV..

But...maybe the only TPV rooms left would be on the 3rd floor since the bungalows would block the castle from the lower floors. Then I could book CL TPV and not have to worry about being put in one of those 2nd floor rooms. :scared: OK, that's just my personal hope...
