ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Winter 2011 Edition

Well he almost caved on the Polynesian, but after much discussion, we agreed to spend less and stay at BWI. Our kids need to broaden their horizons :rotfl2: and we truly do spend most of our time at EPCOT.

I'm kinda' bummed, but for $1,000 less it makes more sense since Ron and I will be headed back in October AND we had not planned to take the kids this year anyway.

Counting my blessings that I now have a trip to look forward to (even if it isn't at my first choice hotel) that is a bit closer. :dance3:

Cool Tess :cool1:

Two trips and no Poly :sad2: I am surprised that Ron caved about the kiddos joining you? You deserve it after this long, cruddy winter :thumbsup2

We haven't told the kids yet. Ty is graduating 5/1 and we're just not sure where he will be by late June. We hope he will have a job in his field, but with the economy as it is. . .:sad1:. . .prospects are slim. If it looks as if he will still be at home and working his usual job here in town then I guess he will be able to go with us. If not, it will be Taylor and possibly a friend of hers. In either event, we are mum on the subject for now and may not break the word until we are hitting the highway. Now that would be one cool surprise to pull off. :rotfl:

As to our two trips and no Polynesian, I hear ya' :sad1::sad1::sad1:. Of course, we aren't there yet now are we? :lmao: Just kidding honey (Ron as he reads the posts). . . :rolleyes1

It's been a long and cruddy winter on so many levels and I will be happy to put in the past tense. :cheer2:

Perhaps this has already been discussed, but is anyone else concerned that the new cabanas and roped off areas are going to make the volcano pool area even more crowded? :sad2:

Yes, we definitely noticed that to be the case when we were there the end of March. ESPECIALLY with the quiet pool closed. They were doing wristbands and the pool itself wasn't bad, but it was almost impossible to find a chair. I even mentioned to DH, we spend an awful lot to stay here, a FREE chair would be nice without having to pay for a cabana!! We often were able to find a chair on that upper level in the past. I honestly think they need to improve this somehow. Maybe take out the tables and just have rows of chairs? The other difficulty is that there may be open chairs, but they're on the beach. When I'm at the pool, I don't want to walk through the sand then to get to my stuff, so we don't use those chairs. I don't know what the right answer is, but this is one of the only areas I don't think the Poly excels. I was stunned to see the huge pool area and all the chairs at CSR. I didn't notice many tables there, so maybe that's what they need to do, just have more chairs!

Hi everyone :wave2:

I've been a member of the DIS boards for over 10 years now, and THIS will be my 15,000th post!! :surfweb: :scared1:

Even though I've been hanging out on the Cruise board because we booked the Disney Magic's 8-night Bahamas cruise out of New York City for next May (YAY!!!), I wanted to come "home" for this mile-stone post!! :sunny:

Ok, to keep this on topic: FINALLY the Polynesian has started to give out wrist bands for the pool!! :yay: Even though we never really had a problem finding seating somewhere around the pool, I never liked the idea of people swimming in the volcano pool who were not legitimate guests of the Polynesian (or DVC members). This makes me very happy to know that the Polynesian management has listened to the complaints for so long, and have finally done something about it. :thumbsup2

Our Disney cruise next year includes a stop at Port Canaveral, and the cruise fare includes a 1-day park hopper to WDW (plus round trip transportation). It'll be nice to go to the MK right in the middle of a Disney cruise, and you can bet that we'll dine at the Polynesian that day!! :woohoo: Either Kona Cafe for lunch or 'Ohana for dinner. Can't wait!

I hope everyone here on the Polynesian FAQ thread family is doing well! :grouphug:

Congrats on your 15,000th post SeaSpray! Here's to ten years of the DIS!~

OT: It is nice to hear they're attempting to take care of the pool hopping :)

Quite the accomplishment! :rotfl: I've been around since a month or so after DIS inception AND mine is only around 3,600. Granted, I lost posts in the many crashes, but there is no way I would be anywhere close to your total!

Nice to hear from you!:flower3:

Congrats SeaSpray! :thumbsup2

Now, we're getting more and more ready. I just ordered our Photopass today. still $99. We're getting closer and closer!

See you soon,

The first person to post on my Poly May 2001 thread! I'm amazed it is single digit dance time already!!! :dance3:
Sending :tink: Poussière de fée for a wonderful time! I can't wait to hear all the details when you return with lots of pictures!

Thanks for noticing! Sad we won't meet though. Well, we'll have to go back, then!

How did you get the French accents? Did you copy and paste?

There are some keyboard shortcuts that will do accents. After years of French papers, I had most of them memorized. :rotfl:

What is a ballpark figure to upgrade to club level? We have a garden view now.

LOL... I can answer this! I did just this for our trip in May! :goodvibes For 6 nights it was an extra $948. So about an extra $158 a night. That was for two people. We had a room only discount applied to that. :thumbsup2 Then I just added another night. If you want to know... here is my total for 7 nights for a Club Level Garden View Room with a room only discount for May 14-21: $4721.72 (we have two people with dining and two day base tickets) For a breakdown... not sure if you have dining...

Approx cost for dining (2 adults - 7 days) $672.00
Cost for 2 day tix (2 adults) $271
Cost for room/club level/garden view $$3780 (7 nights) = $540/night

Give or a take a few cents here and there. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions!

That really does help....we're on a room only discount, no dining plan and got park tix through AAA. We'll be there 7 nights also, so your breakdown helps a lot! Gonna show my husband. Thanks :)

OH Great! That is perfect then! So you take out the dining and tix you should have your approximate cost! :thumbsup2 This will be my first Club level venture... SOOOO EXCITED!!! Here's hoping you get to enjoy it as well!

I can't believe you'll be at WDW in just about one week!

J'espère que vous et votre famille avez de merveilleuses vacances à WDW!

Nous vous promettons de faire notre possible pour laisser la Magie de Disney les rendre merveilleuses!:wizard:

Thanks for the link, but I'm lucky enough to own a French keyboard. This is why I was enquiring how rcsilverspring could write so easily the French accents when I guessed she didn't have the French keyboard. Still very nice of you because I have a few friends who will be very happy to have access to it on their Macs!:goodvibes

Lots of :tinker:Poussière de fée! and thanks again!

I have a 40% PIN and just upgraded from GV standard to GV CL for 6 nights, 4 adults/1 child in December value season and it was only $455 difference. I guess the difference between mine and the previous poster could possibly be the season or the discount percentage. :confused3

You should be able to run the numbers using the wdw site with a fake booking. That's what I did and my numbers came out exactly the same when I called in to make the change.

Mine was a 35% off pin for May. We are also going during a busy season. Like you said... yours is a value season so MUCH less. :thumbsup2

***Best thing to do is just call and find out***

Despite the Polynesian finally giving out wrist bands for guests when they are at the volcano pool, they still have not banned DVC members from pool hopping there. So it's not like Stromalong Bay where the only guests over there are from the Yacht Club, Beach Club and Beach Club Villas because they also have wrist bands. Personally when I heard the Polynesian was doing this I thought shouldn't they make their pool exclusive to guests staying there like Stromalong Bay is if they are giving out wrist bands? I mean it's great that they started with the wrist bands but if the volcano pool is not added to the no pool hopping list for DVC members what's the point?

You now have me checking out our pricing because when I check the code online it shows the Poly GV only with the same plan I have as $3839 and we were given the price of $4070? :confused3 Unfortunately they are closed right now but you can bet I will be calling in the morning! I think someone messed up in reservations! :scared1:

OH no! I hope they get it right for you!

Also, I messed up. We are only staying 5 nights. I forgot our first night is at Hard Rock for Harry Potter. And I looked it up - it's $15 more per night on Fri/Sat than the rest of the week. We only have 1 weekend night.
