Are the beds pretty comfy at the Poly? I am planning on booking Poly in December, but keep questioning things. Is the monorail really worth it? :goodvibes

Went to Captain Cook's at the Poly for our annual Cheeseburger and Dole Whip meal...decided to get a "healthy" side to balance that out ;) so I chose the "steamed vegetables" and this is what I got:

eeeew it was gross. Odd, soggy texture and just an unappetizing presentation. Shoulda got the fries!! :rotfl:

Buyer beware!

What is that, steamed cabbage? Doesn't look like veggies to me! :scared1:

What in the...? I'm always on the lookout for good alternatives but this alone might drive me away from Captain Cook's if I didn't know any better. It looks like poorly cut peppers mixed with a mushrom or two and...cabbage?! :confused3

I THINK it was cabbage, and under it was a limp green bean, and what appeared to be pepper skins (?) I was afraid to dig through it!

I just wanted to warn people about this disturbing assembly of inedible veggies.

The burger however was good....and The Dole Whip of course is worth the trip!!

Looks like Bok Choy, which is very yummy! Here's an example of different strokes for different folks. I would be delighted with that combination of veggies for a change of pace...but not soggy!

The Pina Colava is raspberry daiquiri and pina colada mix. The Lava Flow isn't on the menu, but is the old school Pina Colava. It was removed from the menu when the Polynesian (and other resorts) attempted to homogenize the drinks menus. :sad2: The Lava Flow is strawberry daiquiri and pina colada mix. Both are tasty! :thumbsup2

Thank you for posting this, I'm not crazy after all :rotfl:. Me and DH had a disagreement about the Lava Flow and the PinaColava he kept saying that the PinaColava is what has always been there and I was sure it was called the Lava Flow.

(would it be incredibly immature to print this post and say "neener, neener, neener"? ;))

The beds were very comfy the last time we were there in 2008. The monorail is wonderful and we also love all of the transportation options from the Poly-boat, bus, monorail, and having the TTC within walking distance is awesome!

We just returned from the Poly last Sunday and I will agree with SnowWhite33....beds were great!!! No backaches in the morning;)...as far as the monorail.....GREAT!!GREAT!!!GREAT!!! We had 2 strollers...so easy to just push them on and go....no folding up and carrying:thumbsup2. The only time we did fold up the strollers while on the monorail was one late night coming from EP. There were 100s of people trying to board (standing room only) DH thought it would be polite to fold up since our strollers were HUGE and took up lots of room. Other than that one time, we just pushed them on and never took the kids out. For our family, the convenience of the Poly was well worth the money.

Have a great trip!

Hi Bethclayton,

I have stayed at both levels. Last year at GF RPC and 2 years ago at Poly CL TPV. I would say there is more food and more selections of food at the GF. The Club level at Poly doesn't seem to set out as much food as the GF. Just my opinion. Also, without question, the afternoon food is more plentiful at GF. The Poly sets out goldfish and a plate of cookies and a small bowl of gummy worms. The GF had a tray of cookies and brownies and more I can't even remember!

I did like the Polynesian Club level, but not enough to make an effort to stay there again. As a matter of fact, I just changed my July reservation from CL TPV to plain TPV. After trying to remember why I booked Club level after 2 stays there and 2 "meh" reactions to it, I decided to skip it.

Hope that helps a little! I know others love CL at the Polynesian. I enjoyed it, but not enough to book it every trip. GF's CL is another story. Loved it and would recommend to anyone.

thank you so much for the reply. this is sort of what i was thinking. i have CL food really built up in my head after the GF and i'm afraid i'l have a "meh" reaction to Poly, too. couple that with my husband being unable to have gluten, so his choices will already be limited, and i think we are better off staying put in our GV room and not switching to CL. thank you!

I had posted a couple of pages ago that we needed a one night stay at the Poly before a cruise in December and the rate was $500/night for a GV. Well the gods were smiling because we got a pin code for 40% in the mail yesterday! Not sure that we will stay at the Poly but it is good for all the resorts.

This is the 5th one that I have gotten this year. can you believe it?

Yes, I can believe it!! They're giving out PINs like no tomorrow. I think we're up to about seven so far (including a couple we got late last year for all of this year). Crazy!!

Crazy question...

What beer's are available on tap at the pool bar and the inside bar?

We just got back from POR and they had 3 different Abita beers on tap, which I assume is because Abita is a Louisiana brewery...

Anyhoo, trying to decide where to go for just my DH and me in Sept.(hard to pass up $218 a night) We don't drink non-domestic beer, unless it's a local brewery like Abita. No bud for us. lol. Just curious if we could get anything good at the Poly or if we'd have to bring out own.

Thanks!

I have only gotten 1 pin code in 6 years. I wonder if they don't give them out to Florida res. as often because Fl. res rates are usually as good or better?

Just wanted to report in about my ADRs today.

On a side note.
I work at a Children's Hospital and was on transport call all day yesterday.
We had a very traumatic transport with a 3 year old. It was devastating. Child is alive and holding on.:hug:

From the Poly concierge and we got ALL our requests for everything.

11/29 Citricos 7:30 pm

:cool1::cool1:great news!

I've been thinking about going to Poly to check it out during our stay the first week of December, since I've never been to the Poly at all-- we are staying at YC.

I've seen several mentions of watching Wishes from the beach at Poly--and it sounds perfect for our arrival (non-park) day, but ummm--are there chairs on the beach to sit on to watch Wishes? I don't do so well sitting on the ground these days.

Are there any other spots to watch Wishes at Poly that might be more forgiving for a middle aged woman with arthritic knees?

thanks

Lee

Yes, there are loungers and regular chairs around the pool/beach area.

I've never received a single PIN code in almost 10 years of visiting WDW. I've never really heard of any explanation as to how they are given out.

I had a Blue Moon on tap from the Poly pool bar last week. I also remember them having Sam Adams Summer Ale. I think the rest were Bud, etc.
