Lifeguards are not on duty 24 hours, but you can pretty much use the pools at any time--obviously, late at night and noise could be a problem, but otherwise it shouldn't be.

My husband and I often head to the quiet pool before 8:00 a.m. to sit, have coffee, read the paper, and wait on the kids to get up. Usually, the themed pool area is being cleaned from around 7-8 a.m. and there will be signs out if the pool is "closed".

Thanks Tess :)

I've been reading the on-line check in thread - it seems that people have had widely different experiences - good and bad.

Can anyone tell me about on-line check in at the Poly?

We are going as part of a Grand Gathering and the other two families will be arriving one day before us. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

(also - I really wanted to see my ticker - 3 weeks to go!)

Since I had success with my pool hours question I thought I would try again for on-line check in advice. :)

We used the pool two evenings while at the Poly. One big downside is when the life guard is off duty the volcano is closed :(. This year we are planning some pool time on arrival day so our kids get to use the slide.

We are trying to decide between the Poly and the YC for our trip this summer :goodvibes

Do all of the rooms in the Poly have daybeds?

I understand that some of the rooms in the YC have these but not all.

Thanks!

CL TPV rooms are contained within Hawaii. The lounge/food/beverage service is on the second floor of Hawaii.

It doesn't hurt to contact IPO once your reservation is confirmed to avoid "falling through the cracks". IF you have a travel agent, they will not make contact with you directly because they will not have your personal contact information.

Hope you have a great vacation!

Sorry disneypro--didn't see you picked this one up! ;)

That is just fine Tess, you actually gave me some info that I wasn't sure about either.:thumbsup2

Oh goodness.... At least there were no water issues or somethign like that.

I hope that this doesn't cause any issues on our arrival day - April 16th - with everyone who was supposed to be in Hawaii having to move somewhere else on the 15th... Just the general idea of all those Hawaii occupants rooms being somewhere else on property and then having to move - that's a lot of extra cleaning and moving and "checking in" going on on the 16th. Although hopefully since it is a concierge building, everyone will be getting keys and so forth at the Hawaii building.

I just contacted IPO, Amanda said it is for only one day on the 15th of April. I think the really bad thing is those that the 15th is in the middle of their stay have to bail too. That would suck more then it being on the first or last day. I had to move once after my first day. I didn't like it because I like to "nest" and get comfortable and I felt uncomfortable that night. Worked out much better, though, we loved the room much more.

First off thank you to all who spend so much time making this one of the most informative sites on disboards. My concern is the conditions of the rooms. I have read on several post that the rooms are dated there is mold on the bathroom walls and the wallpaper is coming down, this is a problem for me after spending so much money on the vacation I expect to get at least what I paid for. It is not too late for me to switch to the GF for a little more money and I know the rooms are in great shape. Should I be concerned or are these isolated problems? Thanks in advance for your taking the time to answer!:wizard:

We stayed at Poly this past October and there were absolutely no issues with our room. As a pp mentioned, the rooms were refurbed a few years ago. I suppose individual rooms (or possibly longhouses) may have isolated problems, or issues with a particular mousekeeper. In our case, the room was not dated, there was no damage (eg. mold, peeling wallpaper etc) and it was spotlessly clean.

If you are unfortunate enough to get a room that is unacceptable (though I doubt it, but I it can always happen) I would recommend returning immediately to the front desk, and requesting a manager and a new room.

Since I had success with my pool hours question I thought I would try again for on-line check in advice. :)

I will preface my comments by saying that I have never used online check-in, primarily because we have never really had much of an issue with the check-in process at the resorts.

I can appreciate that it would/may be more convenient for a GG party because you will all be arriving at different times. The earliest of the group arriving may have luck insuring the group is located in close proximity to one another, etc. The online process will also speed the check-in process for the parties arriving later.

Is there something specific you would like to know about on-line check-in? I've read both pros and cons to it.

Thanks!

All of the rooms at the Polynesian (at least all of which I am aware) have daybeds. That is not the case at YC/BC. I have had rooms in both the YC and BC that were without daybeds and it was an issue on one of those occasions.

I know they have them in Tahiti. They also have connecting MKV rooms too, if you have a large party. 3017 was a connecting MKV room.

I have been reading this thread and the previous one for a few months. I am finally caught up and could not be MORE EXCITED!

My family: me, DH and DD 9, DS 5 and DD3 will be going on our first ever real vacation this summer. We have gone on little overnight trips to the zoo and stuff like that but this is the real deal. None of us have ever been to WDW and none of us have ever been on a plane.

I have a neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis. I have had the condition since August 2007 and have had many bumps in the road. After this past Christmas my DH and I had a conversation about how short life is. We made the decision to go to WDW and make memories with our kiddies!

Luckily, I found this site while researching resorts. It definitley swayed my decision to pick the Poly. My DH is such a sweetie that he let me choose the resort, dining reservations etc. We are going to be at the Poly from July 21 -27 in a GV room.

I just want to thank everyone for the beautiful pictures and sharing the great tips. We are keeping this vacation a TOTAL SURPRISE from our kids. I cannot wait to see their faces when they figure it out.

Thanks for indulging me with this extremley long post. ~ Melanie
Breezysmom - you are so wonderful for spearheading this thread. :thumbsup2

I am going 11/29-12/6. I'm a little concerned because everyone keeps saying how the pool was packed when they were there. Has anyone gone the same timeframe I'm going and what it was like for you? I don't think I'll care for my kids going into a busy pool without me being in there too, but then busy pools drive me nuts! TIA!

:welcome: Bless your heart. It will be a wonderful trip!! If you have any special needs concerning your room, do not hesitate to call Disney special needs and they will help: 407-939-7807
If a HC is all you need, then you can call the regular CRO number or if you have a TA ask her/him to let Disney know and they will block a HC room for you. I have MS and they have always been wonderfully helpful. PM me if I can answer any questions.:thumbsup2

Happy planning! :goodvibes

 We will be there some of the same days - 12/2 - 12/7 and it would be unusual for the pool to be terribly crowded that time of year. It is value season and while it is a more popular time, nothing like school vacation or holiday times. It might be more crowded the first few days after Thanksgiving, but value season begins November 28th.

The pool certainly would not be any more crowded than any other resort.:thumbsup2

So excited for you. I would highly recommend you go over to the disABILITY board on here and read around too. It will help your trip so much.
Another thing I would recommend is paying the $20 or so dollars for TourGuide Mike so you will know which parks are the busiest which day and stay away from them. This way you will be able to see more of Disney for your first trip ever.:cool1:

I'm right there with you except on May 1st! Every morning my daughters ask, what are we going to do today??? I can't wait to say... what do you think about going to disney? :lovestruc

I wish we could have done this!.....we just could not keep it a secret. This is a really cool way of surprising your kids! DH and I said for our trip next year that we would try this ;).....we will see if I can keep a secret. Looks like you are going at a great time....crowds should not be too bad and the heat of Florida will be extemely bearable....actually not hot at all. I'm waiting for our ticker to say less than 1 month!!!! We can hardly wait!!!!!

I tryed so hard to keep everything a surprise for my dd6 but I lost that battle 1 month after we booked it.....I am so weak!:sad2: However neither my DH or DD know about the Wishes Desert Buffet..hopefully I can keep that secret until we get there:rolleyes1

It has been VERY difficult to keep this a secret. BUT, knowing our DD5 would ask EVERYDAY about it.....it has kept us from telling her!!! :rotfl2:

I also made a "bay-cation" (as my DD says) chain. So each night she takes off one of the links....she thinks we are going to NC to a hotel with 2 pools....one pool has a "ball-cano" :thumbsup2

I'm going to apologize before I begin.....I just am overwhelmed, and I am hoping for some happy thoughts since everyone here is so fun and sweet.

We leave in 24 days....I just found out my DD1 has a severe peanut allergy....we are going to an allergist in 1 wk to see if there is anything else she's allergic to. This just really worries me because she's had such a rough 16 months including reflux since birth.

I've been having chest pain since last week...Went into shock at Toys R Us from the pain of subluxing a rib, then 3 days ago at Target I almost blacked out.

In 7 days I have been to the ER and the DR. twice. They just moved up my cardiology appt/echocardiogram to tomorrow.... because of the pain increasing.

I am suffering from pressure on my chest, like someone was sitting on me...it worsens when I lay down, gets better with me leaning forward. I also can't walk around the block without feeling like I'm going to black out.

The PA I saw today is worried about Pericarditis.....which as far as I have read, is not life threatening....But I have ALWAYS been healthy.....up to last week I walked a ton and was doing the Wii Active....I am SO bummed

How am I going to be able to DO Disney?!?! I just want to feel normal and have fun with my DH and girls.

I just need to be cheered up......

 No need to apologize! Oh my...you do have a full plate - I am so sorry....but....I am sending a pm as soon as I finished this post. Have you considered renting a scooter? this may be a big help to you - the DisAbilities Board has lots of information about companies and where and how to rent - they will deliver it to your resort and pick it up at the end of your stay. The scooters in the parks are costly per day and you never know if one will be available or at the next park if you park hop.

The DisAbilities Board has so much helpful information - about dining, room requests, scooters - everything to help you plan and ease some of the stress and worry. http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

I do hope this helps - check your pm's. :goodvibes I think you can still have a wodnerful trip.:goodvibes :grouphug:
