How 'bout September?

I would think you are safe... here is what my email said about the pool.....

We have confirmed that at this time there are no plans for the Quiet
Pool to be down in August. Generally pool rehabs are done in the colder
winter months.

Ok, I am actually going to book my trip but I need help with the whole club level lounge thing. How do you act in the lounge, meaning, do you take what you want or do you wait to be served? Like the cooler with the sodas - do you get what you want? Or the bottled water? My family drinks water all day long so having it available free all day long would be fabulous, but can we get it to go to the pool? Are there any restrictions on how many times you can go back to get more appetizers? if they have chicken terriyaki my DH may never leave unless I tell him there is a rule - or people are staring. :) If there is no seating in the lounge can you bring stuff back to your room? Do people share tables if there are no free tables? This appears to be a cultural thing - Aargh - I have being unprepared in new situations.

So, please help me not appear like a fool in the lounge. Thanks!

Yes, no, maybe, no, no, yes, yes..... Just kidding! :lmao:

The lounge is all self service. In theory you can take all you want, but the plates are tiny and you would really have to be talented to fit a lot on them. It's my understanding the water is in large glass bottles, but you are able to ask for one or two to take back to your room. (You could pour into something else to take to the pool). Yes, you can bring stuff back to the room on trays, and yes people definitely share tables. We have met some very interesting people from across the globe in the Poly lounge!

Our last trip was in 2000 (headed "home" in August) so someone who has been more recently please make corrections to my info if necessary! :thumbsup2

Hope this helps!!

My requests were 3rd floor, close to GCH. Starting to collect little items and toys for the car ride!

How so? I've been there a few times over the past few days and haven't noticed any *bad* change or change at all. The music at Kona Cafe and around the grounds didn't seem that different.

Im not there just heard about it on tikiman. But is it the Same music?? Like the song in captain cooks always is a memory for me and my fam

You're very welcome! Tomorrow I've decided to try Tonga Toast again for the first time in 2 years...got my insulin shot at the ready! :lmao:

It is on the dinner/dessert menu at Kona Cafe. Hadn't planned on getting it but I realized I'd had every dessert except this one. A couple next to me saw the fondue brought out and were drooling--they hadn't even had their appetizers yet! :rotfl:

:lmao: Insulin shot... so true!!!
I also have not tried the fondue but that looked really good!!! I'll be there in September and would like to try some new stuff on the menu for dinner. Any recommendations? And was there a coconut macaroon with that fondue???

Thanks for the pics!

Hi all!

Steve Tiki is reporting on his facebook page that an announcement about changes to the quiet pool will be coming soon on the Tikiman page so stay tuned. :surfweb:

I am sure he is gathering all the facts for us and will give us the entire scoop :thumbsup2

If you are on Facebook just search for Tikiman's Unofficial Polynesian Resort Pages and become a fan. I am sure he will update his facebook page as well. He also has some great pics and video clips.

I am anxious to hear what the big plan is and WHEN it will be coming???

Thank you so much for that update! I was actually on his web page yesterday and didn't even look at the 'new' news. Doh! Was checking out the longhouses and rooms (thanks to everyone who explained this info was on his site!)

Still interested in the WHEN for the pool!!! I would actually consider going back to the Poly after it is all done. It will be interesting...

If I were a tag fairy I would tag you with that quote! :lmao::rotfl: It is classic!

Sooo funny and totally true! :rotfl2:

I give - what's a tag fairy?

We just returned from a Club Level stay at the Poly last week. All your info is pretty much still true. The plates are small, yes, but you can help yourself to as much as you want (but understand the food is not prepared in unlimited quantities and they do run out). There are paper plates and cups so you can definitely take things with you. There were 4 different food services during the day, with an hour or so break inbetween each one. Breakfast, lunch, dinnertime, and evening. Breakfast had bagels, muffins, oatmeal, fruit, cereal. We never made it at lunch. Dinner had a few appetizer offerings, fruit, crudites, cheeses and crackers, along with beer and wine. Evening had desserts and cordials. We found the atmosphere to be very relaxed - there was a tv with a few small tables for the kids as well. We were a larger group so we never shared a table, but we never found it to be so overpacked that you would need to. I definitely miss the ease and spoiled-rotten feeling (not to mention the free flowing lilikoi juice!) of the lounge!

This is our first stay at the Poly and we cannot wait to get there!

I'm trying to decide which longhouse to request. I have checked Tikiman's site...and here are the 3 I have it narrowed down to: Tahiti, Samoa and Tokelau. I'd like to be close to the pool and TTC. I'd also love for us to have a balcony. Which would you choose...or is there one that would be better as far as our preferences? We are staying ina a Garden View room.

Thanks!!!

Tokelau is what I choose. It is in between the GCH/Volcano pool and TTC and right next to the quiet pool. All the garden views here are nice or at least no parking lot views. Every room as a balcony or a patio. The rooms are *slightly* larger (just by a smidge though!) There is only one sink in the bathroom but I prefer that because I like a lot of counter space for my 'stuff'.

I would choose tokelau because on one side is the quiet pool and maybe a 5 minute walk to the GCH and volcano pool and less than a 5 min walk to the TTC also all of the tokelau rooms have balconys except for th first floor rooms they have patios only tokelau tahiti and rapa niue have balconies on all the floors

Hey all! Trying to knock out a post while DD10 is at the Neverland Tea Party. Just saw her, Alice and the Mad Hatter try to shake down the staff at the Garden View Tea lounge. :rotfl2:

Ok what's on top of those and did it come with that already or did you add it on at the table? I have been DYING to try them and it looks de-lish, but like to see all my food naked before dumping everything on top (and I wonder why my kids are OCD :lmao: ).

It comes with pineapple and macadamia nut butter (OMG, it is to DIE for!) on top of the pancakes so they added it in the kitchen before bringing it out to me. I'm sure you could ask for the topping to be served on the side so you can dump it on for yourself. :good vibes: I wish I'd thought of doing that myself!

I was referring more to the Palmetto bugs that start scurrying around after dark. I am not saying at Poly specifically, since I have never stayed there, but they tend to live everywhere in the south.

Can I just say I saw one creeping along outside the Grand Floridian cafe last night? I swear it's the *same* one I keep seeing. Guess it's the one that got stuck doing the 'food run' for the others. :lmao: I've never seen one at the Poly yet. Go figure.

Thanks so much for this! I became a 'fan' of his page while in line for Pirates of the Carribbean last night. Can't wait to check out the pics and video clips. It'll help tide me over until our 4th of July stay at the Poly next year. :cloud9:

Thanks so much! :goodvibes: I've got sooo much blackmail material on my family thanks to the Lapu Lapu. :rotfl:

Oh okay, I was wondering. :goodvibes: I tried to pay attention a little more during our breakfast at Kona Cafe and yes, the music has changed. If I had to put my finger on it, I would say it's more 'touristy'. Though I will say the song 'Lovely Hula Hands' was on it and I have fond memories of doing a hula dance in the 1st grade to that music--my first exposure to the culture of Hawai'i. There's also "On the Beach at Waikiki" as well. Can't say I like it more than the old track but I will say if there are special favorites you're used to hearing, I can totally understand how you'd be dissappointed. :sad1: If they pull the 'Hawaiian 12 Days of Christmas' from the loop during the holidays, somebody's getting a 'strong dislike' letter from me.

Oh, I'm keeping track of my Poly vs. Grand Floridian impressions for you as well. :goodvibes:

You're welcome! ::goodvibes: The Teriyaki steak is good as was the coconut almond chicken DD10 ordered. The crab cakes are really good though I think they were overcooked just a tad. The only dish I can think of that I wasn't too enthusiastic about the shrimp and scallops I ordered. Just tasted kinda 'blah' to me.

And yes, there were two coconut macaroons with the fondue!!!! :bananna: :dance3: I knocked those back first then went back to the fruit. :lmao:

I'll uplolad more pics as soon as I can. My iPhone is running on AT&T's turtle network (Edge) right now....

Is the room service menu more extensive than what is on All Ears? I am planning a late-ish room service dinner one night and I am not looking for gourmet, but the options on All Ears seems limited.

Thanks!

Oh (were not going) to a Hukilau

So Tiki Steve is updating that yes the quiet pool will be closing for rennovations but does not know an exact date. He stated that the rumor of a hot tub is still that...a rumor.

I would imagine that they will not close the pool until after August myself. They Poly pool is crazy busy so I hope that the management would not compound that problem by closing the quiet pool during busy/hot season.

I will say that when we were there last fall the pool slide was closed and they set up a nice boat shuttle to the GF for Poly guests to use their pool so I am sure they will probably do the same thing. :thumbsup2

Following up on BreezyMom's tip about checking the Tikiman site, here is what he has on the pool:
Well as of right now the info from the resort is that the original closure in August will be later on and they are going to make the East pool have a zero entry area. I don’t know if this will result in the deep end being gone or not. Also the rumor of a hot tub being added is false as of now. They say there is no plans to add a hot tub to the pool area. No word on exact dates for it to be closed yet but it will not be this summer.

We're going in September and I would love a zero-entry area in the second pool! This means, we'll have to come back when it's completed ;-)

I don't even mind it if they close it in September as long as they give us access to another pool.

Thanks so much for posting this, just became a Tikiman Fan! (Have always loved his website).
