ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Hello! Just booked the Poly yesterday for the end of June:banana::cool1:. Is this the most active Poly thread on the disboards? Does the Poly guy still have the website about the Poly? I can't remember his name or website but I know it was in danger of being discontinued...Thanks!!!

I am not sure if this was the website you were looking for - but this had a lot of information - http://www.tikimanpages.com/tiki/

Used the new 25% off code at the Poly yesterday (really wished it had been 30% like most other deluxes) and upgraded to Club!! YEAH!!! I am really looking forward to having the little extra snacks for the kids knowing that I will be in the Hawaii building. I had a momentary thought of moving to WL to save a bunch of $$ - but my husband reminded me that we are surrounded by woods constantly and being a family that will take a lot of advantage of resort time - tropical was a MUCH better vacation choice for us! I CANNOT WAIT!!! And now that the holidays are over I can focus much more on our trip!

Happy New Year Poly Lovers!!

Going off of what Alli76 said, I wonder why the Polynesian is only receiving a 25% off discount rather than 30% like some of the other deluxe resorts. Either way, discounts = FANTASTIC!

Well, I MIGHT be able to go to Disney at the end of May. But while everyone in the family loves the Poly, we would like some space - 2 rooms so the kids can be in a separate room. The suites at the Poly are out of my price range but a one bedroom villa would be ok for us. So all you Poly lovers - where do you stay when you need a villa??? (onsite - OF COURSE!)

We stayed in a villa at BC in August and loved it. The pool at BC is great. We're a family of 5 so we love the extra space. We ate dinner in Epcot every night! It wasn't monorail but it was still great. We could see some of Illuminations from our balcony. For longer trip I prefer a villa for the same reason - my kids are young and go to bed early. DH and I can have a quiet glass of wine and enjoy adult-time. The pull-out sofa in the living room was very comfortable.
I've heard mixed reviews of BLT (some rooms seem to be in less-than-perfect condition) but you'd still have a monorail location. The villas tend to be a bit more expensive than BC but you get 2 bathrooms in a one bedroom. We stayed at SSR once. Our villa was beautiful as was the resort (kids loved that pool, too). The bus transportation was iffy at best so I would recommend a car. We're all about location so I'm not sure I'd return there.
Hope that helps!

Just a few more days before we arrive at Poly!!! I'm so excited for our trip. And a little nervous to be running my 1st race. There are 7 of us and I've been in charge of all the arrangements so hopefully everything will be magical!

Hi - I need some help from all you Poly people who have stayed club level before. I need to make 2 requests: 1) I requested 1rst or 3rd floor - but am thinking now that I would like to add East side of building to avoid the service elevator 2) I need bed rails for one of the beds... Should I contact the club concierge for this or contact main reservation number??? Thanks in advance!!

Hello,
I'm very excited to be planning a May trip to the Poly. I haven't booked yet, but will very soon.
We have 2 kids, 2 adults, and an infant. There is the possibility that my niece will be joining us for a few days while her parents enjoy a brief honeymoon. Is it possible for us to all stay in a standard room in the Poly, or will we need to move to a different resort at that time?

Maybe I'll run into you at the monorail that morning - I'm sure you'll do great at the race!

You can add your request for the east side of the building at any time and reiterate it upon check-in. The bed rails I would request at check-in.

I would add that the elevator will not be an issue unless you have the rooms in close proximity to it. Even then we have not found the elevator to be an issue--rude guests are usually the problem. You may get those even far away from the elevator since there is a stair entrance on the east side. Perhaps the middle of Hawaii would be your best bet. :confused3

Thanks for the info! I know I've said this many times before but I'd really like to see some 1 bedroom villas at the Poly. It would make my decision easier ;)

We had the discount PIN that ended Dec 31st. The Poly & all other deluxe resorts were 35% and the GF 25%. We booked 6 nights at the Poly and DD#1 wanted 2 extra nights at the GF for herself and her boyfriend. We figure ANY discount is better than what we had in 2008 which was NOTHING. We are staying one more night than 2in 2008 because of it. I'm not sold on CL personally. We get the regular dining plan instead.

While the Polynesian doesn't have villas, it does have suites in Tonga. These are pretty pricey accommodations, but are CL. You can get a one bedroom with an add on room that provides two bedrooms--then again, it is expensive--$600-$2830 per night. There is some pretty good information here if you are interested. I suppose if you can split the costs with another family (or have Mel Gibson's money), the price isn't horrendous. :rotfl2:

Wish I had been able to use the 35% pin - but it wasn't available for May dates. I keep going back and forth on the CL....it came down to the fact that we are at Poly - and with 2 young kids we really LOVE the location and wanted to be able to grab quick breakfasts and snacks without having to go to the main building. We plan on staying a decent amount of time at the resort with the little kids... As they get older and we are spending more time at parks/maybe even trying different resorts I don't know that I would continue to choose CL.

I have priced out some of the suites (when they are available!) and I just can't justify the cost since there are great DVC resorts with 1 BDR villas that cost a lot less. Well...maybe I could justify it but my DH would never let me book Disney again

I did call and book today with the discount code and decided on a 1 BDR villa at WL. 35% off! I did price the Poly and we could have stayed there but it was only $30 less for 6 nights (they only have a 25% discount for the same time). So for just about the same price, we get a 1 BDR villa - not too bad!

That makes a big difference. We have 6 adults going. My daughters and their boyfriends are older (30's), so they like real breakfasts (not sit down every day, but some days and I have to have Tonga Toast at the Kona Cafe at least once) and nice restaurants for other meals, so the offerings in CL are just not enough for them or as nice as they'd prefer.

We also don't spend as much time at the resort other than late at night as you would with small children. They love their midnight swims. I'm worried what they're doing to the quiet pool, the only one they use. If they really get rid of the deep end, it makes it pretty hard to actually swim.

We have only ever stayed at the Poly when they were younger and even now and would only ever consider another resort if we ever go to see the Christmas decorations we all love it that much.

When in May are you going? We will be there May 19-25th, a bit earlier than we normally go (2nd week in June), but I couldn't pass up that discount!!

You should be OK. I *think* the rooms at Poly max out at 5 + a child under 2yrs. I would suggest requesting a room in one of the newer longhouses as they have bigger rooms to allow for a crib or pnp without crowding. Have fun:goodvibes
