ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Checking in.. We are so happy to be here. We have a great room in roratonga with a view of lush foliage and a slight monorail view- this is very exciting for my 3 year old.

Last night my little guy spiked a fever of 104. We gave him Tylenol but it didn't work and he started vommitting. The manager had an emt come quietly (it was 3am) and sent an employee to get childrens motrin from a store. They bent over backward to help us and we're so grateful

Hopefully my ds will be better soon!!

Poor little guy:hug: I sure hope it is just the 24 hr stomach bug that has been going around here. Sending you some pixie dust pixiedust: Glad to hear the Poly CMs are being helpful and oh so thoughtful.

Hey guys. What are the current plans for the quiet pool? Heard they were going to be making some changes to it. Any update?

Oh goodness, I hope he feels better soon! This reminds me of when DD got sick on the Disney Cruise and was so dissapointed she missed the fireworks. Very impressed to hear how the folks at the Poly helped you out with this.

We've made it back and are still trying to adjust to the real world. We had an INCREDIBLE stay at the Poly. Wonderful as ever!! I'll definitely post a few pics and more details soon.

And I refuse to remove my ticker until I can put one in its place!! ;)

MrsDef, I hope your little man is better and you're having a wonderful trip!

I'm finding the adjustment hard too, although Christmas preps are helping to stave off the Poly Plunge. At least you're a step ahead of me. I see you got some pics up on FB last night.

My new ticker went up this morning!! All very tentative right now (nothing booked), but DH has given me the green light to get to work on our next trip. Actually, one night while we were still at the Poly he said "will you start planning our next trip as soon as we get home?" :cloud9: Who am I to argue with the man I love! ;) (especially when our next trip is to celebrate our 10th anniversary!)

Hi everyone, just returned from our wonderful trip. I have typed an epic-length post twice only to have my computer misbehave so here is one last attempt at this!

All in all, we had a fantastic trip. We checked in at 9 a.m. but our room wasn't ready until 4:30 which was a little tough on the kids ... it was a long day by that point and we made the mistake of going to MK (this was Fri, 12/3, parade performance taping day) because a) the boys needed to ride the monorail and b) the boys needed MK to be their first park. :) Anyway, they needed a nap so we ended up missing our Chef Mickey's ADR that night. It was the only real glitch of the Poly portion of our trip.

We were in Tokelau 3927 which faced the Tahiti garden area. That seems to be "our" area, our room has always been right around there. That poor, poor room was in pretty pitiful condition. It is hard to walk the line here without sounding schizophrenic; I am NOT a Disney apologist in any way but we find the Poly so delightful in other ways that the room wasn't a dealbreaker. I can see someone who thinks a Disney deluxe is on par with a deluxe hotel anywhere else would be disappointed. I took pics of the wear and tear, if anyone wants to see them. The room was spotlessly clean so Mousekeeping wasn't an issue, it just needs rehabbing ASAP. I hope it does happen soon, but it didn't bring down our vacation in any way and we will always be happy to stay at the Poly.

No towel animals. No biggie. The TV was left on once, LOL. One day they hadn't gotten to our room by the time we got home for naps so we skipped getting it cleaned. The supervisor was very nice about it and offered to make an appointment any time that evening to have it done, but it wasn't important to us.

We ate at 'Ohana for breakfast and dinner plus Kona for lunch, all delicious. In fact, we had the best 'Ohana dinner experience in years. The food was improved and Cliff and his partner were fabulous servers. We had a couple flatbreads from Captain Cook's one night and they were also good.

My easily over-stimulated middle son told me that he loves the Poly best (other than the monorail, of course) because the room building, the paths and gardens are so quiet and peaceful. I agree totally.

We had no monorail issues which was the other thing I angsted about pre-trip.

The one day (12/5) it was sorta warm enough to swim, the main pool was not "behaving" in the words of a lifeguard and stayed closed. So, we, along with a few other brave souls, hung out at the quiet pool ... which worked out fine for us because it was a quick dash to our room.

Anyway, that is a quick summary. I miss it already!

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We did as well, and the kids and I are having Disney withdrawal.:rotfl:

We got the PIN... thought about it for a day or two... I posted here about CL.. and TONIGHT WE BOOKED IT!!!

Yay!

Not CL though-- couldn't sell the DH on that. He really did not think we'd get the value out of it over the dining plan. I think he's wrong-- I'm hoping for a surprise upgrade to convince him... ;)

Only glitch is that we can't get a dinner at Ohana before 8:30 pm. Given that we are traveling with a 2 year old, I'm not booking dinner that late. BT,DT, it didn't work (for us.)

Need cancellation pixie dust:wizard:-- Ohana is my husband's favorite!

We had our first stay at Poly last week, it was amazing, the whole trip was. We checked into the Poly at 9am, room wasn't ready which we expected. Grabbed breakfast at Capt. Cook's and jumped right on the monorail for MK. Our room was ready around 2, we had 4 rooms and they screwed up our room keys but that was the only glitch and not that big of a deal. We were in Tokelau, which we requested, room 2931. The room was beautiful and very big, while I didn't remember to check for any where and tear, I can tell you I didn't see any.

I wrote a little note the following day for housekeeping requesting towel animals for DD and we did get them. I was a tiny bit bummed that we only got the one set, but she didn't mind and loved them just the same.

Everything was beautiful at the Poly, the weather was freezing but we still enjoyed our surroundings. No pool for us, lol.

We ate breakfast a few times at Capt Cooks, I had the Mickey Waffle every day as did my DD. We had one dinner at Ohana and it was very good. I don't love, love meat but the chicken was good and the shrimp were delicious. The pot stickers and the noodles were my favorite though.

On our departure day I told my DD3, we were going home. She asked me "which home" because she'd been referring to the Poly as home. When I told her we were going home to NJ, she cried. "I don't want to go home!!!" And I said, me neither kid.

I would definitely recommend and can only hope to go back someday. The whole vacation was amazing and magical :cloud9:

Welcome back to winter! :cool1: Thanks for sharing your thoughts on your stay at the Polynesian. You and your daughter are in good company, very few of us want to go "home". :headache:

first stay at the poly coming up the end of Jan. requested tahiti, lagoon view, we will be staying for 2 nights pre cruise. anyone have any comments on tahiti? we have stayed at the yacht club before and love it there but really wanted to give the poly a try after being there for dinner on previous trips to disney, thought about going cl but didnt think the cost would be worth it as we only stay for 2 nights but Im beginning to think maybe cl would be worth the cost. need some advice on whether or not to change to cl? :confused3

Keep checking for O'hana. It took me about 2 weeks, but I finally got a cancellation that fit in my time frame. Try for earlier times like 4:30, seems to be a bit easier to get! Good luck!

I think 'Ohana opens at 5 p.m. PP, just in case you don't have any luck before your trip, I heard a host tell someone inquiring about a walk up that the best time to get seated without an ADR is to show up at 4:45 p.m.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. We did as well, and the kids and I are having Disney withdrawal.:rotfl:

Yesterday, my oldest came home from school and, apparently, I have trained him too well because his first words were, "Mom, I have Disney depression. *sigh*". Me too, kid, me too. :lmao:

Yay, for your great trip too!

I was able to get a lot of my preferred ADR times the week prior to and even during my trip. And they were for popular places during popular times!

MrsDef, I hope your little man is better and you're having a wonderful trip!

I never got to TRULY relax with the newbies on our trip, so I feel a little like I need to go back and spend a day in the room staring at the castle.

I don't put a new ticker up until I've paid a deposit. Feels like tempting fate. :rotfl: Of course, I'm paranoid like that. :lmao: We're looking at the end of September/start of October. DS5 wants to be back at the Poly, but I think we'll try WL this time. We also visited POFQ, and they loved the pool area. I'm nervous about going mod, though. Of course, we always visit home wherever we end up staying. :cloud9:

As soon as I get DH onside the ticker goes up - helps me keep my eye on the prize! :thumbsup2 Still need to get a few details worked out before we book, but we're looking at the last week of October, possibly with DH & I arriving a few days early to celebrate our anniversary and then my sister & her DH will bring the kids to join us for a week. Just not 100% on someone else bringing the kids. It's not that I don't trust my sis, but it's a 3 hour drive to the airport - having to cross the border (so "legal permission" is required since we wouldn't be present) plus DD5 is adopted transracially, so that is always a question mark as to extra questions (though it hasn't happened to us yet, but I have heard stories from others) & then a 2 1/2 hour flight. The kids have never travelled like that without us. We're just not sure if it's worth the potential problems.

Hello everyone,
We are heading to Poly in less than a week and our TA emailed and said that Tokelau was going to be closed for renovations while we were there. Since that is the longhouse I requested, she wanted to get alternate choices. Has anyone else heard that?

What's this I just read on Mousemisers about not being able to request specific buildings anymore due to the new system?

"MouseMisers Walt Disney World has made a change to their room and package reservation systems. All resort rooms are now assigned automatically by the system at the time of booking. Guests can make generic requests at the time of booking (close to lobby, close to bus stop, etc.), but not specific location requests. You can add a specific request to the reservation, but they will not be seen until check in"

I requested a balcony and adjoining rooms when I booked last month, but was waiting to decide if I should request our favorite longhouse or leave it up to the Tiki gods. Looks like I won't be able to. Not sure I like this AT ALL!
What have you all heard/seen?
