ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

I will be there on the 30th in the pm. What decos can we hope to see at the Poly? It will be our first time during the holiday season.:cool1:

By then ALL Christmas decorations will be up. They are all typically up by Thanksgiving. You will see trees, wreaths, lights, etc...

I am just hoping to see them tomorrow. Anyone?:confused3

I saw that too. Didn't someone report on here that while they were there the lifeguards were checking room keys on a busy day? Maybe I'm dreaming, but I thought I had read it on this thread recently. :confused3

Gotta' love a clicking down ticker!:cool1:

we were there last week and yes, they were checking room key cards and giving out wrist bands. :thumbsup2 and it wasn't that busy either.

When we were there 12/7 to 12/15 of 2008 there were trees and garland up in the lobby and the CL lounge. During our stay we noticed more and more being added such as poinsettas in the waterfall area and the Gingerbread houses. It was fun to see new stuff every day.

Hi Poly fans!

We are just back from 4 nights at the Poly, 6 nights at the BCV (11/4 - 11/14) and we had a wonderful trip.

I have to say, our room at the Poly (TPV, Tahiti, 3rd floor) was wonderful, the view was GORGEOUS, the mousekeepers were great, the entire staff was SO friendly. We liked Tahiti for it's location, we enjoyed the more low key feeling there, although we did have noisy neighbors our first two nights, not the Poly's fault, but rough on our kids, who were exhausted and trying to fall asleep. We LOVED the short walk to the TTC for the ferry to the MK, LOVED Kona for breakfast, LOVED that smell in the GCH, LOVED the Volcano pool and slide (they were not checking room keys the day we swam, although it was a cloudy, rainy day, so maybe that's why). I will agree with previous comments about how busy the GCH is at night with the restaurants and shops drawing so many people in. Will also agree that the room showed slight wear and tear, but nothing that would give me pause if I hadn't read about it before hand here on the Dis. Captain Cooks was fine, we ate there twice, not busy during slightly off hours, touch screens were fine as long as you are prepared (thank you again Poly fans). I thought the selections were good and tasty, really all I can expect from a Quick Service location. YUM DOLE WHIP!!!

After our move to the BCV, which is our home resort as DVC members, I have to admit, I wanted back at the Poly!! ;) I love the BCV, being Epcot fans, it is a perfect location for our family. But IMHO, the staff at the Poly were much more magical and friendly. The Beach Club staff should take a lesson from them. Our room was fine there, but boy, I missed that view! We will for sure split another stay with the Poly in the future, it is truly the best of both worlds.

The parks were fine, we used TGM, and he was right on. MK on Saturday 11/6 was PACKED!! We just went to watch the MSEP, and then got outta there quick and made it back to the Poly to watch the fireworks from our balcony, while enjoying a Dole Whip. MVMCP on Thursday 11/11 was awesome, not too crowded at all, LOVED the castle lights! Epcot on Saturday 11/13 was INSANELY busy, which we knew going in, but it is our traditional last park, should have listened to TGM on that one. People were drunk and rude and their behavior was not very family friendly. We ended up hanging out in the UK, watched the British Invasion for a couple of shows and then watched Illuminations from the IG. Next time we will avoid the F&W festival, just not fun for us.

We tried new things this trip, stuff we had avoided or just missed. Some hits, some misses, but I have to say the highlight for me was fireworks from our Tahiti balcony at the Poly! :cloud9:

Overall, a great trip! If anyone has questions, glad to answer! Thanks to you all for your great posts and advice!

Deb

Got our package info today. Makes it seem real. Only three weeks to go until our very first Disney family trip ... And our first-ever on property stay at the Polynesian. Hopefully all this planning/reading/studying I've done will pay off. It feels like we've been planning this trip so long that taking it is almost anticlimactic.

Hubby and I are so ready for the upcoming trip...the first half staying at Poly. I can't wait for Christmas in Disney!

Thank you for the pics! They are beautiful.:cloud9: The only sad part was the tree in the lounge. I tried to get CL, but there wasn't anything available at the time.

We are looking forward to just being able to stay at the Poly.:thumbsup2

So excited!

Originally we had 2 nts POR and 5 nts Poly booked since we didn't want to pay for Thanksgiving rack rates at the Poly. Well yesterday DH told me that he didn't want to hassle with switching resorts since I'll be 7 months prego :scared1: and to ignore the cost and change to the whole the whole week at the Poly.

Luckily they not only had a room available but I actually got 1 of the 2 nights at 40% off so it's not even THAT much more :cool1:

I'm on cloud nine and I just had to share with people who would understand :goodvibes:

Poly here we come!!!! Single digit dance :banana::banana:

We're at the two week mark here!! I'm going to start packing, I think. I was going to try to wait for the weekend, but I need something to get me over the mid-week blahs. Can't wait to be at the Poly!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all the info in this thread... you guys are all great :goodvibes

My BFF and I are staying at the Poly for four nights in early February to celebrate our college graduations. Seriously can't wait for Dole Whips and Lapu Lapu's... though probably not together (would be an interesting combination though). We're still crossing our fingers for some good AP rates so we can upgrade from Garden View to Theme Park View, but I've seen some pretty good garden views so we're not too worried.

We're thinking about requesting an upper floor room in Tokelau or Tahiti for their closeness to the TTC and good views. Thoughts?

so not only do I leave next week for Disney and more importantly the Poly but was checking on my flight info to make sure it hadn't changed and realized that prices had dropped in a big way (and we were already getting a good deal) so had my husband call to see if we could get any sort of refund, fingers crossed, and they credited us over $100 on our credit card and gave us more than $300 in credit to be used on future flights. Now thats how I like to start a vacation with a refund. Now bring on the mouse I am ready:woohoo:

Hello everyone. Just back from a wonderful Poly stay. We booked CL TPV and got room 3510. What an incredible view  The staff was very friendly and helpful (especially Barbie) and the room was spotless. Towel animals every day. I am happy to report that the food offerings were plentiful and very tasty. I am going to try to do a TR once I am caught up on laundry, food shopping, etc. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions please ask. Aloha.

Barbie was awesome when we were there last year. She handled some last minute requests/favors for me last Feb. and I never got to thank her. I am looking forward to seeing her again this Feb.

Hi there. I asked a month or so ago about the best way to get to DTD. A few people suggested taking a taxi, so that's the plan. I have a DD3 that will be with us, and my brother in-law will have his twin 1 1/2yr olds (in a 2nd taxi). Will they allow us to ride in the taxi's without using a carseat? And is it a fairly safe/quick ride? Does anyone have any experience with this.

Thanks so much!

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Poly and loved, loved, loved it.
Requested Garden View & first floor and left the rest up to chance--we got Rapa Nui, in what must have been a wheelchair accessible room, because there were bars in the shower and the room seemed huge.We enjoyed it. It was a walk to the GCH but literally steps away from the TTC which was amazing--so easy to hop on the express monorails to MK & Epcot, or take the *big* ferry to MK, direct buses to AK & HS. The room did show wear and tear (dings on the furniture) but nothing obvious. Housekeeping was great, no towel animals but I'd rather have a clean room & extra towels.:rotfl: Fell in love with the adult grilled cheese at Captain Cooks, and our first dinner at 'Ohana did not disappoint. The Christmas decor was going up all week and by yesterday the GCH was fully decked out--wreaths, lights, poinsettias & Christmas tree all up.

They were not giving out armbands for the pool when we went late in the afternoons before dinner, but they were checking room keys. My only issue was yesterday upon departure. We requested bell services to come help us with our luggage at 11:30, and they didn't come until 11:45 (after two calls). We then missed our "scheduled" time for Magical Express, and we couldn't do bag check at the resort. It ended up being ok, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth as we left. It would've been better if we could've checked our luggage at the resort as we had planned.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me.

Safe travels to everyone who has trips coming up!
