ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

We are planning a family trip to Disney for Feb 2011. DH and I are the grandparents, daughter and 8 yr old grandson, son and daughter in law. Arrival will be midweek or towards end of school vacation week into the following week probably Tuesday or Weds.
We were planning on staying offsite at a condo as we have before.... then a health scare made me realize that life is too short,,,and I want to stay at the Polynesian!!
So, I am about to embark on our journey to plan this trip.
Can you help?
Do I make our room ressies now? Am I too late because of school vacations?
Will I be able to get better rates later?
We are Florida residents but I don't know if Feb is a time they give resident discounts. My husband is also retired military.

I would like room suggestions also. I think we'd prefer quiet and central. I dont want to be a LONG walk from the monorail. I think we'd just go to the beach to watch the fireworks vs watching from the room even if we could.
I dont think I want 1st floor... probably would want 3rd... do you have to walk up or are there elevators?

I have read through all these pages, now have to go read all the links! Thanks to all who are sharing. Amazing how exciting a picture is!

I cannot tell you how excited this makes me to think about planning this at long last. Hopefully the health things works out ok and we just have an amazing time.

Any advice- ALL advice, greatly appreciated.

I'm praying for your health scare, and I'm sure everything will will work out...
You will learn alot on the disboards. Some of these veteran POLY Peeps will be happy to help you with room requests. Take care!

eh-hem! Mine's BETTER than yours!!! :goodvibes

Guess we'll see eachother at the pool in...less than a week!!! :cool1:

Thanks for the new thread, guitarob. You are doing a great job.

Don't know if I'll be posting back here before I leave (tons to get done, and still working the next few nights), but y'all watch for my live report, OK?

ALOHA!

It sure is, be careful, and maybe I will see you there!:wizard: :rotfl:

Great new thread!!!

For those of you who have switched your reservations around, can you advise me?

I got a code awhile ago for 40% off and made res. for the last week in October -- we ended up with a TPV room. I'm now thinking I'd rather be in a regular GV CL room if possible. Do you know if there are any codes out there that might allow me to make the switch? Also, how would I go about doing it?

Thanks!

I just called and added it about 2 weeks ago with the Room Only code

:yay:

Are you packing yet??

My DD just started running a 102 fever today. Oh man!!! I figure she'll probably be better by the weekend, but now I have to worry about the rest of us catching it.....

Broken toe, sick kid, I'm starting to think this trip wasn't meant to be... :confused3

Sending:flower3: for your DD to get better and your toe to get better soon~

Signing on and excited to find the new post. We are looking forward to any new updates for 2010!

Poly Addicts ... I mean Poly Pros, I have a question for you:

The in-room coffee maker, does it come with to-go cups or just standard ceramic mugs? I'm thinking of taking some of that new Starbucks VIA instant coffee in case we don't find the Kona coffee as strong as we like. By "strong", I mean able to stick a spoon up in it. :thumbsup2

Not a PolyPro but on my way to being a PolyAddict - here is what I remember from our trip in April...

There are only ceramic mugs in the rooms. You can get empty to-go cups from Captain Cooks but they won't give you lids (I presume to dissuade you from walking over and filling up right there.) When I got the cups the CM told me you can get lids from housekeeping - which I did. Don't know if housekeeping also has cups but next time I will definitely ask before walking down to Captain Cooks.

I meant to try the Kona Coffee while I was there but somehow this never happened. I believe there are two blends - one being stronger than the other.

Good morning everyone!

Hi Heather, thanks!!! I did take a bunch of pics of the Dolphin and I think I posted them on the Dolphin board, but I'll have to check!

Found em'!! Thanks!

I guess I didn't post that many, but I'll have to go through DD, Emma's, photos - she is a WAY better photographer than I am - and see what she has. It was a bit of a rough weekend - one of our cats died yesterday really suddenly. It was heartbreaking and terrible, but now she is at peace. She was fine when we got home last week, but over the past few days just hadn't been herself and yesterday went downhill FAST. Everyone around here is pretty sad today! :sad1:

OMG! Sorry to hear that. We have pets, too, so I can totally relate...they are like part of the family. We had to experience that 2 years ago with both of our dogs.:sad1:

On a lighter note...your Poly pics should help brighten your day;) Looks like y'all had a wonderful vacation at the Dolphin & Poly.

Have you started planning your next trip?!

Thanks, Heather. They really are part of the family. It's pretty awful and one of our other cats, Smokey is getting older (13) - argh!!

Yes, we did have a great vacation and I really want to start planning another one! Problem is, DH is not nearly as obsessive as I am about Disney - I could go again, tomorrow!!!! And DD is heading off to prep school in the fall and will be pretty busy, so I'm trying to fenagle a trip with my sister. She'll love Poly CL - but now I have to convince DH that it's okay for me to go again with her. ;)

So sorry to hear about your cat. Pets are such an important part of the family. Sending some special thoughts your way.

Thank you everyone! It was a horrible experience but at least she was home and I was with her the whole time, so thank goodness it didn't happen while we were at Disney. It just happened so fast, I still can't believe it!

So sorry to hear about your kitty Zuzu! It is so hard to lose a furry little member of the family. At least you were back and able to be there with her. :flower3:

Wow, I leave for a business trip for a couple of days and the old thread reaches mega-length, a new thread is started, AND it's already at 15 pages! I love the Poly thread! Thanks BreezysMom for the old thread and thanks guitarob for putting the new one together.

Now I've got some reading to do :lmao:

No, it was Gingie - I've already changed my sig because I couldn't bear to see her on there -too raw yet! :sad1: They really are our babies - I haven't told the cat sitter yet, because I don't want her to feel that she did anything! Gingie was fine when we got home and most of last week but Friday she started acting off.

Thanks, maiapapaya! Thank goodness DD was NOT home at the time - Gingie was especially attached to her. :sad2:
