Day 6, Thursday, October 2
Thursday was Early Magic Hour at the Magic Kingdom! After getting ready and eating breakfast in the room, we were ready to go – after 8 am. I was fuming since I stressed to my husband how this was THE most important day to get to the park early. Luckily, the crowds are still small, so everything turned out OK. We took the monorail to the park and headed for the first ride of the day – Dumbo. DS1 decided that he was “too big” to ride Dumbo, but DS2 loved it! DS2 cried when it was time to get off, but we headed for his other favorite – Pooh. We all rode the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and DS2 once again cried at the exit. Next, we rode Snow White’s Scary Adventure for the first time. No one was TOO scared, but my mother did note that we saw a lot of the witch! Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel was one of DD and DS2’s favorites. Once again, the little guy cried and clung to his horse when it was time to get off. Then we boarded our flying ships to wing our way over London and through Neverland on Peter Pan’s Flight. Then we walked over to It’s A Small World and some of us, at least, sang along. Next stop was scheduled to be Splash Mountain. The grandparents and DH opted to take DS2 back to Fantasyland, while DD, DS1, and I rode Splash. We agreed to meet at the exit of Splash Mountain at 10 am. Unfortunately, Splash Mountain is closed when we arrive. I picked up some Fastpasses for afternoon, but was pretty upset, since we had to go back through Fantasyland to try to find the others in our group. I told the kids we were on a secret spy mission to capture the grandparents. Their job was to look for our stroller parked outside of a Fantasyland attraction. We nabbed the Grandmom spy with the stroller next to Dumbo. DH and DS2 were in line, so we agreed to meet at the exit of the Mad Tea Party. DD, DS1, and I ride the Mad Tea Party twice, but still no DH. We discovered that they had detoured over to the Carrousel for another ride. Now reunited, we all headed to Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. After Buzz, we took a ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, then headed to Adventureland. Everyone but Granddad went for a ride on the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. DS1 tried to aim the carpet so the camel could spit on us. I loved the little jewels and such embedded in the concrete of the walkway. Our next stop was the Enchanted Tiki Room. DD loved the talent agent birds in the preshow. She and DS2 were a little concerned during the dark section with the thunder. DS2 enjoyed dancing to the music and watching the birds. Our last stop as a group was at the Jungle Cruise. We had a good trip along the jungle river, although I noticed DD had her eyes closed as we went through the ruins. DD, DS1, and I waved goodbye to the others to head off to Splash Mountain. I thought that they were headed back to the hotel, but they decided to eat lunch at the Columbia Harbor House instead. When we arrived at Splash Mountain, we noticed that the stand-by line was very short. We decided to ride stand-by, then used our Fastpasses for a second trip. One the second trip, DS1 asked to ride up front, so we all wound up getting soaked! We took the railroad from Frontierland to Main Street, then took the launch back to the Polynesian. DS1 had a long conversation with the boat skipper, Rob, asking such important questions as “Can I drive?” and “Do you have any cookies?”.
After lunch from Captain Cook’s and a short rest, we all boarded the bus to MGM. Our first stop was a the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Even DS1 enjoyed to show, although I didn’t remember it as being that wet! We found spots to watch the parade on the steps where the Doug Live! attraction used to be. We had a great view. Afterwards, we walked around Echo Lake to Hollywood and Vine for our Fantasmic! package dinner. The food was good and the chef provided DD with her own French fries, string beans, turkey, and soy ice cream. After dinner, DH, DD, DS1, and I rode Star Tours again, while the grandparents took DS2 to the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure. We met up with them at the playground and let the kids play for 30 minutes. I had a nice conversation with a cast member who was on a 6 month Disney stint. He was from Puerto Rico and commented on how the weather was cold for him. After the playground, we headed to Oscar’s Garage to go to Fantasmic. The stadium wasn’t very crowded when we arrived 35 minutes before the show. I gave the kids glow bracelets that I had brought from home, which entertained them for a while. DS1 was starting to get a bit grumpy waiting. DD really wanted a light-up wand and DS1 had mentioned that he wanted one of the colored light-sabers, so I decided to splurge. Unfortunately, DS1 had changed his mind and sulked for a while. We wound up buying him a glass of Sprite with light up ice cubes instead. The kids were wowed when Fantasmic started. So was I. We enjoyed the show, the fireworks, and the special effects. We got misted from the water screens, even though we were 2/3rds of the way to the back of the studio. Afterwards, we retrieved our stroller and went to the bus stop. The bus stops weren’t TOO crazy. We got on the first bus, but it was very crowded. I got a seat up front with DS2 on my lap. We were sitting next to a couple from Pennsylvania, near where I grew up. DS2 was fascinated by the man’s firefighter tigger tattoo. DS1 and DD got separated from the adults for a bit, but DS1 found seats in the back for himself and his sister. We made it back to the Polynesian just as the Electric Water Parade was starting.
