Almost Ready to Go! Country Bear Jamboree shots posted

I'm just back from the World and catching up with your photos. What a great collection! It sounds like you had an awesome anniversary trip! :cool1:

It went very well. We had a good time interacting with the kids. They get so excited when they see Santa! I'm very happy with the new camera. As I said before, the learning curve was much steeper than anticipated. Once in a while, my uncontrollable fingers hit a button and it goes into a mode I don't recognize and I immediately panic. At DHS I accidentally put it into mirror lock-up mode. I thought the shutter broke. It took me a little while to figure it out. The buttons and the controls are in different locations so it has taken awhile to adapt. The dynamic range and usable high ISO makes some of the shots so much easier and lessens the PP time.

Did you freak when you thought you broke it? About a week after I got a new camera once I went to take a picture and all it did was beep and flash at me forever before the shutter finally fired. I was totally freaked that I'd broke it. I finally realized I'd inadvertently turned the self timer on. When I got the camera I was like "look at me, big smart BFA photo student, I don't need to read the stinking manual." Yeah, so I read the manual after that.

It looks like you got some really great shots on your trip. They make me wish we were going to WDW this summer instead of DC.

Welcome back, now get busy processing so we can see some pics!!:rotfl2:

And yes, we had a great trip, thanks.

Thanks! But that could be a bit. My 7 year old computer takes a while to download all these RAW files.

Do you have a favorite shot from your trip?

It was a combination of freaking and anger. Then embarassment when I figured it out. Fortunately, I had my K10 with me and just switched to shooting that until I got a moment to work on the K5. One of the differences between the K10 and K5 is the direct access buttons on the back. In the K10 its a four way controller that you turn on by hitting the Function button. Not so with the K5, just touch the button and you're into the function.:scared1: Its a learning process.

Have you been to DC? My youngest daughter lives there and we are there frequently. I have a wall dedicated to my DC pics. There is so much to photograph there.

I don't know yet.:confused3 I was ecstatic to get some Peter Pan and other dark ride shots. I was disappointed in my MVMCP parade shots. If I was to shoot that again, I would use two cameras, one for flash for the non-illuminated characters and the other for the lighted floats. My memory could be playing tricks on me, but I remember many more illuminated characters and floats. I was constantly switching back and forth between flash and non-flash. I was so busy, it was hard to enjoy the parade. Unfortunately, I had a perfect spot for the MVMCP stage show, but they had technical issues because of the Christmas Day Parade filming. The show was all of 5 minutes, if that, and pretty lame. Oh well, there's always glitches so we didn't let that spoil the fun! If I had to pick a favorite right now it would be between these two:

I have been to DC a few times, but not since middle school. All of my pictures from the last trip were taken with the Pentax 110 SLR, back when it was still a current model camera, so it's been a while.

Bring your tripod and hit the mall area and memorials at night. Its beautiful. You can get some great reflection shots using the reflecting pool and tidal basin. Some of the lesser known Smithsonian Museums like the Building Museum is a great place for taking pics. Here's a couple of my favorites:

I love that first shot.

I plan on trying ot get out at night, but this is the first trip for my husband and kids (9 and 12 when we go), so we'll see how that goes.

That was taken from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial with my Sigma 100-300 @ f32. I wanted everything in focus, WWII Memorial, Washington and the Capitol.

You will be surprised how many families are out walking around the memorials after dark.

While on this trip, the DW decided for our next trip we should stay at a Mod (She wants a hot tub). So we took some time on our last day to do some hotel hopping. We had previously visited the hotels on the monorail, but this was different as we actually were looking for a place to stay. She decided that the Port of Orleans French Quarter would be the hotel for our next stay. While I like the food court at POP better, the hotel did seem quieter. It was compact like POP and really quaint. So that's our plan. Here are some images from our visit:

Catching up!

Loving your shots and I hope that your DW is recovering. BTW - nice to 'see' you in the pictures. I'm always interested to put faces to the names.

:thumbsup2

Thanks, I hate having my picture taken and I don't know why since I'm always having others pose! The DW had a little setback and is back in the hospital. She hasn't been the healthiest person in the world and has had some heart issues which raised its ugly head again this morning. Hopefully, she will be out of the hospital for Christmas.

I hope she gets better by Christmas. She will be in our prayers.

I wish her all the best in the recovery. Make sure you take care of yourself too. :goodvibes

I'll be back in a few days to post some more pictures. The medical situation with the DW worsened and it was touch and go for about 36 hours. She is recovering nicely now but it will be a much longer recovery period than first thought. I want to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers. Everyone have a Happy Holiday and Merry Christmas.

Oh my! I'm sorry she's having such a hard time. Take care and you'll both be in my prayers over Christmas. I hope to hear you post back soon that she's home and on her way to recovery.
