Almost 1 year old on a plane Question

mine was a 5 hour nonDisney flight and a screaming toddler who just wanted to move and nothing else. not a fun flight for anyone and it was naptime finally fell asleep just as we landed only to be woken up to get off.

My nightmare!

She's content for hours as long as someone's holding her. She's done pretty well at all day dance competitions, so, fingers crossed!

one big difference with dance competitions is there is something happening even if she isn't watching but she can see where on the plane she wont be able to see the noise that she hears. if you are planning apps be prepared to run on silent or use headphones. plus mine was not content to being held just wanted to move. this trip was that many years ago when carseats were not allowed on planes but it seems like yesterday when I remember it, it was that bad

what does the sticker look like????
I am not sure what it looks like as my kids are that old but I remember last flight we took there was a family planning on using their carseat for infant but because it didn't have the sticker they were not allowed to use and it had to go under the plane. mom was very upset but FA stood firm that it could not be used

Yeah, we will have apps, toys, etc.

She should be okay.

Virtually all modern carseats (not boosters) are certified by the FAA. You just need to make sure you know where the sticker is. Ours is on the side under the fabric. It's the sames ticker that certifies it for use as a carseat in a car.

And absolutely bring and use the carseat. It's way safer. Also, while it's not technically an FAA regulation, I have had multiple flight attendants insist that children under 2 have to either be in a carseat or in a lap. You'd hate to have paid the money for the safer and more comfortable option and then still end up with a lapbaby when it really matters most.

A friend just took her 10 month old on a flight and held her the entire time.

It wasn't a big deal, and all of the new sights kept her busy. She did wear what we used to call a "snuggly." It is kind of a front pouch. She put the baby in it if Mom needed to use her hands. This baby also hates the car seat, and everyone on the plane was very glad that they didn't try to use it during the flight.

Having just got off a plane yesterday please put your child in a car seat. There was a mom and dad on our flight with twin 1 year olds or younger. They each had an aisle right next to our 2 rows.

I felt so bad for the mom holding the girl twin. She was so squirmy and kicked the seat a few times in front of her. She even squirmed out of her moms arms screaming during take off and finally fell asleep mid flight.

All 3 of my kids when they were under 3/first flights, sat in a car seat. I am so glad we spent the money for that seat.

Whether in a car seat or not, bring something the baby can chew on for the 1st 20 minutes into the flight and the last 30 minutes of the flight - babies ears don't adjust well to the pressure difference, and they need to be sucking/chewing to make up for it. Whether the plan is for mom to nurse, baby to take a bottle, baby to chew on a toy, baby to chew on a pacifier, etc, having something that the baby will always happily chew/suck on is the most important thing for you and baby to have a happy flight.

Also, always bring a spare outfit change (for you and baby) and extra diapers and wipes - a wet, dirty baby is an unhappy one and you'd be amazed how much life is better with this (see below).

Always bring some food source and beverage source (even if it's an empty sippy cup you fill post security).

Always bring 2-3 toys/books for entertainment - don't rely on the phone (except as last resort) b/c it's more annoying for people to hear different videos every 5 seconds than a nicely read book from mom and dad and babies won't wear headphones.

I always flew with all of mine on a lap (even internationally) - I had one motion sick one, so the car seat would have been a disaster 20 minutes into the flight (keeping her upright and able to view a sight line was very helpful to keeping her stomach settled since she was too young for Dramamine, although we still lost her breakfast on an international landing once...at least we were getting off the plane to see daddy to clean her up (while I changed)...it was always very helpful to have my babies on my lap to nurse and then fall asleep right where they were (I brought a small nursing pillow on the plane as my carry on and that was worth its weight in gold)...I flew with some as young as 1 month (funeral) and everywhere in between...and I always took an aisle seat...
