Has anyone ever used a gift certificate from Air Miles for the US Alamo? I am going to order $200.00 in gift certificates for this, and I want to make sure this has never given anyone any problems at booking?

Thanks for your input!! :thumbsup2

Just make sure that your car rental is $200.00 before any of the taxes. They will apply the GC to the rental car base amount but you are still responsible for all of the taxes OOP.

Well that really sucks, because I just ordered $200.00 in gift certificates thinking that covers everything. Well my car rental is $131.00 before taxes. Now what will I do with the extra? :confused3 I guess I could keep it a little longer but then that means I just have to pay more out of pocket for the taxes. :headache:

I would only use one of you r GC's. If you use both you will not get any GC credit back.
I would phone airmiles and see if they can cancel one of your GC's and give you the air miles back.:thumbsup2
It does say right on the site that the GC's are only valid for the base rental of the car.:sad2:

We did exactly this in LA a couple of years ago. Our base rental was $180 but I had $200 in GC. We basically wasted $20 off the GC and paid the taxes OOP but it was still a better deal AirMiles-wise than having AM book the rental directly. Another option is to order a $100 and a $50 GC from AM. That way you're only "wasting" <$20 of the GCs. Or, as a previous poster suggested, just use 1 and pay the extra $30 OOP as well.

How many airmiles did it take to get $200 in GC's. I didn't find it on their site.

If you go to the site and go to travel, then to travel certificates they are there. 325 points for a $50.00 card.

Since you already have the GC's it would be surpising if Airmiles would refund you..but maybe you could upgrade your rental to next size if you are going to have to spend the gc's or lose it..you may as well spend it and get a "nicer ride"...just a thought :-)

I called and ordered them and they told me 2 to 4 weeks to get here. I think we might keep the car for another 2 days or just upgrade to the nicer ride. :lmao: My son says get the one with no roof! :cool1: I am just glad that I found this out before we arrived and had to put out the money, at least I can budget for this now.

It took about three weeks for mine to come. The National site on Air Miles says that ue to large volumes they could take a bit longer. There was no message on the Alamo site through AM.

Do not get the convertable. I did this in August. Thought the DD's would have a blast in it. It took two returns to get one that worked properly and then the trunk only holds 2.....yes 2 carry on suitcases!!!! Thank goodness there was only the three of us because the other seat in the back had to hold the rest of the luggage:rotfl: :rotfl:

Might make a nice upgrade to a mid size SUV:cool1:
