For those of you have who have been following Allyson's journey this last year I thought I would post another update. Below is the email I received from my sister this morning. Thank you again to everyone who has prayed for her, sent her gifts, donated platlets (Thanks Margie!) and just kept my sisters family in your thoughts. Allyson will be turning 12 in a few weeks and my hope is that she can enjoy being a child again after so many months of the grueling chemo. You guys are the greatest!!
Hi all, just back from Manhattan, Allyson`s counts are all up to par now after her last chemo treatment 2 weeks ago. We are now free of cancer and will wait for the surgeon to call with a date to remove her port !!!! It should be in the next week or so, as the surgeon has a few days off. After that just monthly visits, then will go to every 3rd month, then 6 months, 9 months to once a year for the rest of her life. Hey, that's a lot better than going every week! We will miss the great people that have become friends to us in the last year. Between the staff and the other parents & patients , it has been a learning experience for us. Allyson has met a lot of different types of people and eyes open to a whole different world . She has gotten to do an art piece that is now on permanent display in the hospital, so proud of her!!! She has met different stars and her eyes open to life in NYC. As bad as all this was, [cancer] a great deal of good has shown through!!! There`s still a sad side, with some of the kids that nothing seems to help them . Please keep them in your prayers. Allyson can tell you all about their cancer and treatment plans, maybe she`ll be a Dr. some day!!! It`s a great relief for all of us and I have to say Allyson did a wonderful job with all of this. She has grown up a great deal and even grew taller. Now the wait for all her hair to come in!!!! She has been home schooled and has been on the honor roll through this whole strange trip with cancer!!! For once, Allyson`s strong will and stubborn head has been a great help to her. Her dad and myself are just so proud of the way she has dealt with all this. It will be great to get back to our normal, whatever normal is, way of life. Thank you all for all your prayers, thoughtfulness and support through all of this!!!! Without everyone lending their support, I really don`t think we could have made it through, it really has shown the good side of people!!! Thank you all once again !!!
