We intend to spend 7 to 10 days at WDW next year. As we only use our to shower, change and sleep we only need a value resort. Off-site is out of the question as we want to take advantage of WDW-transportation.

What would you take?
One of the AllStar Resorts or the PopCentury?

I also am trying to decide on which resorts. I like the ASMu and POP, they both have nice theming. The POP is newer and have bigger TVs. I think they might also have more food choices at their food court. I keep going back to ASMu though, I have read it is less crowded and have fewer kiddos. Either way, we are going to get the prefered section. We have to be close to the food court to get drinks and morning coffee. We have stayed at Mod and Deluxes, but never Value. If we are going to go twice this year, it has to be Value. I am a little nervous, but it is Disney! Basically, I think it depends on who is going with you. If you are traveling with little kids, the ASMo is very popular. Teens seem to like POP alot. I have read also that kids into sports like ***. It seems that ASMu is more laid back. Look at allearsnet.com , they have great pics of the resorts!!! Good Luck!

I've stayed at both Music and Pop. I love them both. If I had to chose between those two it would be hard. If I had to chose between Movies and Pop, it would be Pop. I love the theming of Pop, I love walking around the resort...it's very peaceful on those back walkways. I loved the food court. I didn't have a problem with the food courts at Music but like Pop's better. I like the pools at Pop better also.
If you end up going with Music, try for Jazz bldg. It's right next to the preferred Calypso bldg, but it's only about 30 secs. longer walk to the food court/bus stop. If you can get a room on a higher level, towards the back of the bldg it will be very quiet. At least it was for us. Loved Jazz.
In Pop, we were in the 50's section, bldg #2, behind the jukebox. On the third, of four, levels, all the way to the back of the resort. It was wonderful. We didn't mind the walk to the food court. We could just go out the door, turn the corner, and watch IllumiNations in the distance.

Now see, that's gonna be a hard one to answer. Why?You ask.
We have stayed at all three Allstar resorts and at Pop also.So let's do this by process of elimination:
In 2000,we stayed at the Allstar Sports resort. Now for me personally,I have lost most all interest in sports,as I have gotten older,(I know I'm not that old,46 yrs old). But I am a musician of 30+ years and just don't care much for sports anymore. So when we stayed there, that was our first time to stay on Disney property ever.So it was a big treat for us,and yes,we DID enjoy it.We stayed there in Sept, and on our last 2 days there,a bunch of high school football players and cheerleaders came in,and were very noisy;and yes,I called security to quieten them down.So we enjoyed that place, only because it was our first time on property.Would I stay there again? No,never.
Now on to the Allstar Movies resort:This place was much better for us,having 2 girls of our own.The gigantic Disney movie icons were great to look at.We stayed there in 2003,and my girls were 9 and 12.The atmosphere here, was much more Disneyish than at sports. But!This is the resort that parents with smaller kids stays at,and that could be a little bit "patience-trying",if your kids are older as mine were. The pools were crammed full of kids most every time we were in them.Other than that,it was a good place to stay at.If you DO have smaller kids,Iwould definitely stay there, they will love it!
But,now that mine are now 14 & 11,would I stay there again,no,never.
Now on to my favorite value resort,Allstar Music resort:this resort, for me,is by far,the best value resort of the three allstars. Why?First of all,I am a musician as I stated earlier and this place was my cup of tea.We have actually stayed there three times.Once in the section called Broadway, after broadway musicals, next in the Calypso section, after reggae/calypso music.Third in the Jazz section, after jazz music. The atmosphere that we felt when staying there, was beyond words. It just felt right,ya know? The food court here is excellent!A good variety of foods to pick from. It's not all fast foods though;they do have complete dinners with meats and veggies.I liked the roast pork and roast turkey the best. The arcades are great. Many games give out tickets that can be redeemed for prizes/souveniers.Gift shop is not bad either.Would I stay there again, yes, definitely.
Now,last but not least,is POP Century. This is the version of all of the allstar resorts, improved from some minor flaws at the allstar resorts. This resort is much bigger than the other three, and has awesome icons from the 50's,60's,70's,80's,and 90's,decades.Here are a few things that I can recall that have been improved:the que lines out front where you catch the buses to all points on property, have been chained and set further apart,to avoid confusion as to which line you are in.The food court is bigger and all open to the gift shop, which is ajoining it.Gift shop is bigger as well. The arcade is bigger, with more games than at the allstars. As far as the rooms, they are all the same,in all four value resorts. One other thing,POP is located right behind Epcot,so the bus riding to all points is shorter, except for going to the Animal Kingdom. But!The Allstar Resorts are located much closer to Animal Kingdom, making the ride there shorter, but longer going elsewhere.
This year,we stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort for the first time.It was nice, but there is still something magical about the value resorts. We even went back to POP two times to eat at the food court and play games in the arcade, because at the CBR,the arcade there, does not have any games that gives tickets for prizes. We like doing that sort of stuff!
Anyway, all in all, would I stay at POP again? Most definitely yes!!! Probably next year when we go.
I sure hope that I have helped you.If you DO have any questions, please send them to me as a private message, and I will reply to you just as soon as I read it.If so,please be patient,I don't get on the computer every day,so it might be a couple of days or so.Thanks for your post,I've enjoyed sharing with you. ::MickeyMo

DH and I love the All Stars resorts as well as Pop Century. They are very, very similar (I should say we've never stayed at All Star Sports, but have stayed at Movies, Music, and Pop).

We also use the hotel as just a place to shower and sleep. Plus we love having a food court available for breakfast and we love being able to use Disney transportation. I think you'll be very happy with any Value resort you choose.

I've stayed at all 3 and chose All Star Movies hands down.

Galactic Emperor Pop Century is so much better and newer and better service I use to work for Disney as a manager I can tell you anything about everything there!!

Does anyone know why there is a difference (11.5% vs. 13%) between resort tax on the All-Stars and Pop?? Can't for the life of me figure this out! Do they lie in different counties or cross some other invisible line?

Which one do you believe has the higher tax rate? My reservation at Pop appears to have the 11.5%. Our room is $64/night before tax and $71.36/night with tax.

Maybe you have added one more reason to the list as to why I should be happy I chose Pop! :goodvibes

POP...POP...POP!!!!! We have stayed at ALL the Allstars and Pop. We LOVE Pop. My kids think it is really "cool".

They are located in two different counties and each county has slightly different taxes.

riu girl answered my "why", but I just checked over at Mousesavers.com and yes, it IS Pop that has the lower 11.5%! All the All-Star resorts have the 13% tax rate.

Enjoy your stay there be sure to let us know how it is! :goodvibes

We stayed at Pop Century 12 days after they first opened 2 years ago and stayed there again this Spring for a few days so here's my $.02 worth.

The bus service...TONS better than the bus service for the All Stars. While the All Stars were waiting and waiting and waiting...we were on our bus and headed back to our room from every park.

The food...the food court at Pop Century is really good...I particularly loved the chicken noodle soup.

The decor...while the movies resort at the All-Stars is great, I can't say the same for either music or sports. Pop Century is just a lot of fun. My DS (now 7) loves climbing the different steps (particularly the rubik's cube, the duncan yo-yo, and the bowling ball) and loves playing twister. It's also really fun to see Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head!

The staff...mousekeeping did animals for us everyday...the front desk was terrific (particularly when our family was trying to get an emergency message to us and my husband and I both forgot to bring our cell phone chargers)...the staff at the store was great when one of the parks made a mistake in what they sent to our resort for package pick-up.

And finally...the bus drivers we had (particularly on New Year's Eve) were hysterical. I loved the corny jokes they told...particularly when my DH was "punished" for giving the wrong answer!

We've stayed at lots of Disney Resorts...Pop Century, Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans Riverside, the Contemporary, the Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge and Ft. Wilderness Cabins and All Star Music and Movies.

My favorite in the Value category is hands down POP.

My favorite in the Moderate is Port Orleans :earboy2: and my favorite in the Deluxe is Wilderness Lodge :lovestruc . (If you have a larger group...more than 4 less than 7...the cabins at Ft. Wilderness are terrific!)

Hope this helps.

Boy, am I ever glad so many people prefer Pop to All Stars. I much prefer AS - Will make my stays alot easier. :cool1:

We have stayed at Pop, Sports and Movies and enjoyed all three and would return to all three, but we liked Movies the best. Our experience was that the bus service at Movies and Sports was better. We only shared a bus one time at Movies and that was coming back to the resort from MK about 10:00 a.m. and we shared the bus with about 4 other people so sharing was not a big deal. We NEVER have had to share a bus during a peak time, maybe we just got lucky. The worst bus experience I have ever had at any Disney resort (have stayed at 5 total so not too much of an expert I know!) was at MK going back to Pop. We waited well over 45 minutes. The que was all the way back, eventually they kept pulling up buses, sometimes two at a time, but with that many people it just took awhile. Afterwards we decided we should have walked to the Contemporary and taken a cab back to Pop. I remember other disers who had been there at that same time posting about the same nightmare. Must have been a fluke however because I hear so many people say how much better the buses at Pop are :confused3 . Our experience was just different. As for the food court situation we found the food to be about equal at all three but the food court at Pop was always insanely crowded. It is a huge resort with one food court. It has way more rooms than any of the all stars but the food court looked to be about the same size. They do have booths which was very nice. The rooms were about equal but we did enjoy the larger dresser, bathroom shelf and larger tv at Pop. We just preferred the Movies overall because we loved the theming and found it to seem a lot less crowded. One note, we were at Pop in an extremly slow time of year (late January) but it seemed packed in spite of one of the cm's at the food court telling me "this is nothing, come here when its sold out to see crowds". I say go with the theming that appeals the most because that's what the values are all about and they are a hoot!

P.S. I forgot to add that we hated the parking at Pop. It was okay during the week but my Lord on the weekend it was awful. We ended up taking the buses only on the weekends no matter what because coming back late there was no place to park. We have never had that problem at any other WDW resort. Checking in on a Friday night late it took DH over 30 minutes of finding a parking spot. He finally got one because some guy was leaving. The guy jokingly told my DH (after DH followed him slowly to see where he was going) he should have brought one of his kids to lay down in the parking space until he returned to save the spot!
