is there a big difference between the categories? I think we have finally decided that renting a house is going to be our best bet for our family. But, man, is it hard to decide on a place!!! The homes on allstar also seem much more expensive than on VRBO. Is that just due to the management company component?

I would assume that was the reason. I found they were way higher than anything on vrbo and homeaway.

Most owners will put homes with both management company and on a "by owner" site to maximize the number of weeks the home is occupied. About 25% of our rentals were from management and 75% from VRBO type sites. Our 'by owner" prices for the same home were much less. When management rented they took x percent of the rent and when we did it ourselves they got a flat fee of $50 to put it on their books and get the renters the keys.

So same house is probably somewhere on the internet for a lower price. AllStar does have a great rep and took only top of the line homes almost exclusively in the Formosa Gardens area.
