Ok, this may sound like a silly question but my kids were concerned. Knowing Disney doesn't "allow" mosquitos at FW (haha) being that it's in the middle of Florida and there are alligators in the area.....are there any in the FW area or on the grounds anywhere? Remember, we're from Iowa where there is no such thing...lol OK you can laugh now! :confused3

Now there will be those who will say there are no alligators at FW. Although they are rare and tend to stay away from campers, there have been alligators seen there. Just leave them alone, stay away from the weedy areas by the canals, and there should be no problems. I have seen them on the golf courses, but personally I have not seen them at FW. Considering the amount of water in the area and the fact that FW is built on a reclaimed cypress swamp, and it is in central Florida, I would be very surprised if there were none there.

I have seen them in one of the canals by Bay Lake. They were very small and we were ride our bikes.. It was kinda of exciting to see them.. Just don't mess with them I have never seen them in the Campground were you park your rv and camp.

I have also seen a small one in front of the bike barn.

While riding the WDW bus transportaion we've seen them in the wet ditches on the side of the roads, just about everywhere on WDW property! So, chances are they are there at FW, but will be kept away from the public areas.

When we were staying at CSR I saw a 3ft one in the lake, he was by a small canal, a CM came by and said they knew about him and was going to get it .We were getting ready to check out and I wanted to walk by another pond to take pictures (backdrop) and saw a 6ft one, he was huge. We went to checkout and told CM's about the large one and they got excited, I had told Security and didnt seem to care "we're in Florida, there here all the time" The checkout CM's stated that they had a team of people to get the big one. We have been to FW and never seen one.

We have seen the traps set up behind the 300 loop on several occasions but never a real one!

Hello,
I am Bord1niowa's daughter and I was wondering if they is a chance there will be alligators on the campground loop sections? The closest thing to an alligator we have in Iowa is snakes and they are 5 inches long. Be completey honest...am I gonna go out for a walk and come back without a finger or body part?

It's pretty unlikely that you are going to encounter one, and pretty unlikely that you will end up with missing body parts. If you do see one, just leave it alone. If it is in a public area, notify the nearest cast member. I walk my dog regularly down by the canals, where the gators would most likely be, and dog is one of their favorite meals, and we have never had a problem.

Last month we saw baby alligators everywhere at the Fort. Walking through the Fort, hanging out at the site, everywhere. You could just sit by your camper and hear them every now and then crunching through the leaves.
Hang on a minute.....................................................................................................................................................................................Sorry. Kids just told me they were lizards. :rotfl2:

Hahaha, mu daughter almost freaked out reading about the little ones everywhere....lol Till she saw the oops part...lol Thanks for the giggle

When you go, you will see what I mean. Lots of lizards, squirrels, rabbits, raccoons, and everything else you can think of. By the way, DO NOT get lazy and leave a bag of trash in the bed of your truck overnight. Put it in the trash can. Don't ask me why I say this. I DO speak from experience. :thumbsup2

We often bike through FW on our trips..and we stayed in the cabins back a few years..and haven't seen any. However we did see one on the golf course at what used to be the Disney Inn..now Shades of Green. Cast member told us it was not unusual...and if at FW..to keep an eye on your dog...not to let them wander close to the water. this confirmed what my neighbor told me that during a trip they took to FW in the 80's a small dog was snatched by a gator.

i have only seen a gator once and that was two years ago in the canal area which serves as the dog walk area by the pet loops 1600-1800. It was on the bank down by the water and it was about 4' long. It was about 3pm in the afternoon and we contacted GS and they were aware of it and were in the process of taking care of it. I truck drove back there and they closed the dog walk path. After about 40 mins the truck drove out and the gator was removed.

I remember when you used to be on the alert for dangerous snakes, but I cant remember the last time ive even seen a snake period.

Hey! Waving to you from Iowa! :Pinkbounc I've been to FW twice and never saw any alligators. However, I came home to my house in Iowa one afternoon and saw two HUGE snakes by my garage which freaked me out more then an alligator  LOL, I'm a big baby. :rotfl2:

What part of Iowa are you from?? Love talking to fellow Iowans.

There was a good size one across the street from ASMu on our last visit - we were all excited (yeah I know, stupid tourists! ;) )

One was spotted by a guest today and the guest did the responsible thing and called the front desk. Pest control crew responded immediatly to relocate the gator.
