Allergy Question??? HELP!!!

DS is allergic to peanuts. Hes only had 1 reaction and it wasnt deadly or anything like that, his eye just got a little puffy.
Well, he just grabbed a candy heart that he got in school yesterday and he bit into it without checking with us first(he usually knows better!!!). There was peanutbutter in it! Of course, I feel like Im going into shock myself because Im so scared. Hes upset, but he doesnt seem to be having a reaction.
How soon after exposure would you think a reaction would start? My worst fear is having to use an epi pen on him. Please send pixie dust so that it doesnt get to that point. Thanks!!!!

Normally a reaction hits within minutes but I think I recall hearing a woman at a restauran say that it could take up to an hour - she also had a peanut allergy and headed for the hospital, although she finished her dessert, first.

DD and DH are both highly allergic to bees and their reactions were under an hour. They both take Benadryl - would they work on your son to counterattack

I just checked with my sister who was babysitting him when he had his first reaction and she said it happened within minutes.
So far he seems ok, except hes very upset and says he will never eat candy again(Id like that in writing). I gave him Benedryl just in case and will keep a close eye on him.

That's good to hear! You must be very relieved! Yeah, I'd definitely get the "never eat candy again" in writing!

Glad that you gave benadryl. I might call a Patient Advisory Nurse or emergency room to check with them
