We are taking my dairy free son to DL for the first time this fall. We've done WDW numerous times and have had great success there…one of the main reasons we've gone so much. But since we're new allergies in DL, we'd love some help. I did look through a search of allergy threads and had a few questions.

First, who is this Chef Chris person so many people talk about? I send an email to the address listed for dietary questions on disney.com buy haven't heard back from them. How do I contact Chef Chris?

Also, anyone have any recent experiences and are willing to share any tips to help us? My son will be 7 and can live on fruit and hot dogs but I'd love to give him some other options while we are there. Which places have you had the best luck and most options at? Any places you recommend we avoid?

Thank you.

My son has severe dairy and nut allergies. We did Surf's Up Breakfast with Mickey, called ahead and had dairy free Mickey shaped waffles my son loved.

I know Dole Whips have Dairy.

We did frozen lemonades, burgers, steaks.

Please keep the board posted on what you find as I could use some more information for our next rip.

Good Luck!!!

I actually saw a You Tube video the other night.we are don't the breakfast at Surfs Up Mickey and I sent it to my DH to show the food offerings. The family was worried about gluten and dairy. The chef individually explained each dish and whether or not they could eat it. He was very accommodating, even saying certain items could be made gluten and/or dairy free. Good luck!

My daughter (25) can't have dairy or dairy by products and still eats very well at Disneyland.

The first thing she does at any restaurant is ask to speak to a chef, they will come out and go over her options, and if nothing is safe on the menu they make something special for her. Many times the chef will prepare the food so that there is no cross contamination. Many places have a book that lists all the ingredients of items on their menu.

A few of her favorites at DL are the chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries at Hungry Bear, lunch at Big Thunder BBQ as the only thing off limits is the cornbread and desserts. At DCA she loves the Chinese chicken salad in a bread bowl, eats at the stir fry place, and will even do the kebab's at Paradise Grill. Even though she knows these places are safe for her to eat at she still checks with the chef to make sure nothing has changed since our last visit.

In the past couple of years the Dole Whips have hit her safe list as they have become vegan.

I have to say Disney Parks are one of the few places that really try to work with a person with food allergies.

We deal with a peanut allergy and have good experiences at Disneyland. I trust table service a little more but have eaten at plenty of counter service places as well. A chef will come out and talk to you at counter service. There is a Facebook group called "Disney Chefs Rock Food Allergies". This a great resource for anyone planning a trip to Disneyland or WDW. There is a lot of recent discussion on dealing with a dairy allergy at Disneyland so you should check that page out. Hope your family has a great trip!

I'm pretty sure the popcorn is dairy-free. It is at WDW, and I am almost certain it is at DLR too.

We had a horrible experience at Surf's Up. I am vegan and gluten-free, and was told that all I could have was a plate of plain, steamed vegetables and plain steamed rice. I guess things have changed for the better?

I eat grain free and dairy free and was actually doing a whole30 cycle at DL this past April and it was awesome.

For table service, we ate at the princess breakfast at Ariel's and I had put "gluten free" on my ressie (since it's easiest) and a Chef came to our table and asked what I could have and what I couldn't and he made it special for me. So wonderful. Another great place was at Flo's in DCA. The carrots and peas were steamed and then cooked in soybean oil (big no no on whole30...and kind of dumb, but whatever) and the chef came out and talked to me and made me carrots and peas that were just steamed. No oil. It was awesome.

A dear friend of mine has a daughter who has severe food allergies, including a contact allergy to dairy (they carry epi pens everywhere). At their first trip to DL, daughter was 11 and had never eaten in a restaurant. They had a great trip! I believe they had the best luck at Storyteller's cafe.

Their sweet daughter was so excited to eat food served to her!

So glad to hear about the Dole Whips. I've read great reviews but also read they had dairy. Glad to know they are vegan. On our list for our next visit!

There are tons if places to eat...

Snacks--pretzels, popcorn, frozen lemonade, fruit bars

Quick places-- I love hungry bear, jolly bakery, wharf area in DCA, boardwalk pizza (great salads), Earl of Sandwich (salads)

Sit down/table service--- I've had good luck everywhere except blue bayou--- worst meal ever

I always call ahead and note my diet needs and speak to wait staff/chef.

I found the waitstaff to be very informed much more than the ones at the world.

How interesting! That was by far my best meal as a vegan/gluten-free diner. What did you order? I was so looking forward to dining there again, I wouldn't want to be disappointed.
