Does anyone know of a good allergy-aware restaurant in the Saint Augustine area? We are dealing with peanut and tree nut allergies. Thanks!

I used to live a hour away from St Augustine and have visited there many times. I cannot however recommend any resturants outside a major chain one. Smaller resturants are just not as equipped to handle allergens and most dont have official procedures in place. It can quite simply be a nightmare. Especially in the loud popular touristy places.

Its not exactly fancy food. ( understatement ) but Cici's pizza is located in St Augustine and you can eat absolutely anything from their pizza bar and not have to worry. It states right on their website NONE of their food including desserts contain nuts or are made in a facility with nuts. Its not exactly 5 star dining but it is a safe bet if you need to grab something quick.

Here is the address
115 Jenkins St
St. Augustine, FL 32086

Is it a adult or child with the allergies ? If its a child I was going to say you could bring something for the child and adults could eat out somewhere else. There are several good resturants in the area I could recommend in that situation. Most kids dont mind geting a BK kids meal and I do believe they are also nut free as well. I cant see a resturant saying anything about you brining something in. Unless they wanted to be responsible for any issues and most do not. ( Have to double check on the BK site about the new funnel cake sticks though)

Hi Cinderella73, thank you so much for your input. I've been calling restaurants all over St. Augustine, and I've come to the same conclusion - I just don't feel comforable with the "non-chain" places. Most places don't seem to have a clue what I'm talking about when I call. We are staying in the old downtown area and I was so hoping to find a special place in that area that would be safe.

This is for my 12 year old daughter, who is now at the age where she would be uncomfortable if we brought in food for her, so we will need to go somewhere that we can all eat safely. I've found a BK, a KFC, a Wendy's, and a Red Lobster out on Hwy. 1. Those are all places that we feel pretty comfortable with. Thanks for the tip about CiCi's - I didn't know they were safe - cool! We have those here locally too! :yay:

Glad to help. At 12 it s hard to bring in outside stuff. My PNA child is 9 so I still have some wiggle room on that but we also usually stick with chains also. Even though its not the same excitement you get from from eating someplace new you should consider hitting up Publix and packing a picnic lunch to eat at the fort , the beach or the park area intown . But if you get deli meat be careful and ask if they sell mortadello Boarshead cheese . It has nut warnings and is sliced on the same machine. Not all Publixs carry it but its best to ask to be safe. They are usually pretty helpful down there about FA's . They even offered to clean the machine and use different gloves etc. . I was to nervous to do it but its nice they did offer. I do think they said the fried chicken was ok. But they change suppliers so I would double check ahead of time on that also.

There are lots of little benches on St George St and some people spread a blanket on the lawn at the Castillo De San Maro fort .

There are tons of cool things to do. Some fun and cheap uncommonly known ones like tour the hidden castle on the beach . St Augustine is my favorite city in the world. If you could use any ideas of stuff to do lmk and I can Pm you some info if you like.

Hi Cinderella73, that's a fantastic idea about a picnic - thanks! I haven't been to St. Augustine since 1990, so I'm really excited to be going back! It's taken on sort of a fairy-tale quality in my mind - I remember it as being such a unique and beautiful place. This will be the first visit for dh and dd.

We are only staying for two nights, so we will probably only have time to hit the main attractions this time. It's out of our way to go there (we're heading to WDW afterwards and we travel to Florida on I-10 through the panhandle), but every year I try to convince my family that we need to do it. This is my year! I know they will "get it" when they see the city. :cloud9:

Thank you again for your help!
