well, alright, maybe not Disney itself...just the air conditioning systems. ;) I noticed, our first morning at Disney, my 5yo coughing and stuffed up. I shrugged it off, thinking it was just from travelling. By about 10am she was perfectly fine. The next morning, even worse...coughing so hard, we sought out medical attention. Noone could really help us, but we were advised to get her some Bendadryl. (Thank goodness for Bendadryl!!) Then, at Busch Gardens, we waited in line forever it seems to see Bill Cosby live...got inside, about 10 minutes after they closed the doors BAM dd is immediately stuffed up and coughing and can't breathe. Out we go, and after being in the fresh air for awhile, it let up.
To get to my point, it's the air conditioning, as near as we could summize. We were only in the hotel room long enough to sleep, and that's when it began. You can't turn off the ac, only turn it down, and you can't exactly prop open your door for fresh air all night.
At home, turns out she's allergic to mold. Her dr said the ac most likely is run somehow differently that ours up here (not that we need a lot of ac in Maine), and bc of the humidity in FL, the mold content is alot higher.
So, next trip, Claritin and/or Benadryl is coming with us.

Thank you for posting that! I have hay fever and I'm allergic to mold as well. I've been suffering from my allergies since August and I finally went to the doctors office this week to get on medication, which is already helping. I was taking 1 Benadryl a day just to stop the sneezing and runny nose. I finally got fed up and stopped taking it a few weeks ago. Now that I'm on a prescription nasal spray and Singulair, it's been working great! I'm not sneezing as much as I was and I'm finally able to breath again! (ok, I just read that and it sounds like a commercial LOL)

Benadryl does work, however, it can make a child drowsy. I gave my DS4 liquid Benadryl to help him a few weeks ago and it did make him a bit sleepy.

Our trip to Dis starts on Wednesday and I didn't want to be down in FL sneezing with a stuffed up/runny nose. Otherwise, my DH would have to call me "Sneezy" and I'd have to buy a Sneezy shirt to match his Grumpy shirt :rotfl:

5 days and counting!!!!! :woohoo: :cool1: :cloud9:

It's funny, my allergies were practically non-existant last week at WDW! I had packed all kinds of allergy medicines and my inhaler and didn't even need it. I think it's because I didn't see any ragweed, and it's just rampant here this time of year.

wow, same thing happened to us! My 5yo DD coughed almost the entire trip!!! never thought about her being allergic to something.

funny thing, isn't it? It hit dh and I almost simultaneously, "she has to be allergic to something", because it would go away after being away from the ac for awhile. As soon as she was in a spot that was closed up with ac, she'd immediately stuff up, cough, etc.

I get sick with a respitory illness almost every time I go to Disney (but I keep going back!). Last December's trip, I came home with a cough that developed into pneumonia. October 04, came home with bronchitis. October 2002, yup, bronchitis again. October 1999? Pneumonia! I have mold allergies up here, and whatever is down in Florida is obviously even worse. I am coming down this time armed with a nebulizer, inhalers, and lots of other stuff. If I get sick again, I think I am going to have to stick to Disneyland from now on.

My dd's (3 1/2) asthma and allergies get so bad when we go..especially in OKW..we had to change resorts last time because it was so bad...

My oldest DD (17) has gotten sick every single time we go. First trip she almost landed in the hospital (did have to take her at age 3 to one of those walk in clinics) second time (2nd grade) had to search down cold medicine at the resorts. Now, we just pack the benadryl before we leave and she takes it before we get there.

My sources tell me that Disney is very sensitive to the problem and are taking huge steps to correct it. They are testing a new microbial solution that will control and eliminate any and all mode spores that may cause discomfort to thier guests. Everyone has high hopes for it's success!

Same thing happens to me .... I have come to except it but it still isn't fun while on vacation!

My family and I have had the same type of problems down in Florida! I took a can of Lysol, and some other type of air freshner that claimed to kill germs once and used it when we burned something in the condo we were staying in. That trip we didn't get as sick... I think I will take one every thim and not only hit the rooms with it but aim it at the air intake/vent and see if it helps! Counldn't hurt?
