Allegiant Airlines - Yes or No???

I haven't flown them, but a friend has flown them to Orlando. She and her family had a good experience. Keep in mind that they do not fly into Orlando International (MCO), but into Sanford airport so that may affect your transportation cost.

Yeah - I am figuring that out, lol! But I think it may still be better than flying with the kids at the age they are and I figure I can get some kind of deal on a rental car somewhere ---- I hope :confused3

I am trying Allegiant for the first time for a disney trip as they started flights into Clearwater St. Pete and we got round trip tickets for $90 each. Couldn't pass it up. Allegiant charges for carry ons and also for picking your seats. we have a 7 and a 2 year old and our travel agent said she has never had them not put families together but we paid the $18 per person each way to get seated together. The thing that concerns me is they only have one flight and if something goes wrong you are not able to just jump on another flight. It is a give and take, I don't expect as much as I would from a regular airline but I was willing to put up with it for the reduced price. Heck we have our flight which is now direct and a stretched Limo from Tampa to Disney and back for at least $500 less than if we flew On Delta or United.

My sister a few years ago and a neighbor last year used them into Sanford and they were very happy.

I didn't choose seats either but I can't imagine they wouldn't put a 3 and 4 year old with their mom - I also got upset because on the website it says check luggage now for 15-35/baq and then they charged me 50 per bag - I am crossing fingers that nothing goes wrong!!!!! but I did buy the trip flex just in case

I replied on your other thread, but just for other people who are wondering:

We haven't flown to Orlando, but we've flown Allegiant to Ft. Lauderdale a few times. They do nickel and dime you, but if you aren't taking a lot of baggage and don't need a lot of extras, they are a good choice. We used to drive 90 minutes to the closest airport they served and still saved a ton of money. They're expanding next year to the airport 20 minutes from our house and we're really excited!

Thanks! We ended up getting 4 RT tickets with 3 checked bags for $692 (I just got the checked bags because it is Dec. and the weather is soooo unpradictable, lol)
we have to drive about 3 hours to get to this airport but the closest major airport is 2 hours and more than twice the cost so I think we are getting a great deal - plus I called and they said that the stroller and carseat would be free so that is great and the airport has free long term parking which is even better -

we got hotel rooms for the friday and the sunday night for an extra 88 and we are still at $781 which is about what we had figured to drive....

I think that we are doing good so far :)

A friend of mine swears by Allegiant. She travels from here (southwest FL) to Chicago a few times a year on Allegiant. I have personally never used them, but she loves them.

Thanks! We are booked now, so I guess we are going, lol!

Its only 3 hours so how bad can it be :? :confused3

We have flown with them a couple times to Orlando and had good experiences. I wouldn't hesitate to fly with them again.

Allegiant does fly into MCO. :) We used that airline in 2012 after deciding that instead of flying out of PHL with USAir, the cheaper fare and direct flight from Lehigh Valley made better sense. In 2008 I also used Allegiant from Lehigh Valley to fly into the Sanford airport as there was no MCO access then.

I commented in '08 and then again in '12 that they were single-handedly the best flights I'd ever been on, and I do believe that that says a lot as I've been flying since I was 6-months-old. The entire crew, from the pilot on down, were exceptionally friendly and incredibly helpful. The flights were also very smooth and in all of my flight experience the '12 landing at MCO was the best touchdown I'd ever had - it was SO smooth that I didn't know we had landed until I realized we were taxiing down the runway to the terminal. :goodvibes

We flew twice the last year on Allegiant, ABE to Sanford, no MCO flights from ABE or another local airport.. One flight was back to a different airport an in two hrs we were at baggage claim.
For the two hr flight you really do not need anything, but do prepay your baggage fees. The weight is 40 lb, not 50 lb so I took the 26 inch not he 28 in luggage. The overhead bin is a fee, but not the backpack under the seat.

If weather or breakdown is a factor, there are no other flights hat day. But, or the savings I do not worry. I like no love, the smaller airports hey fly from for the small TSA lines. Also, getting to gates is so much easer then a mle walk!

I also agree, our 2012 landing may have been the smaller flight or hey have great crew because you felt like a cushion landing, on the dime. It is a bit longer to drive back to he airport, but you gain that many times over with small security lines over the tremendous ones at MCO.

Oh, we always had the younger kids sitting with us. Get to check in early. If you are late arrival you get when you can, but a passenger may give an exchange. I was unsure about how I felt until we just did USAir/MCO recently.

Renting a car was no problem, just keep checking the rates. :beach:

Help - found the cheap flight but nervous about booking!

I have flown them in and out of Vegas a few times. Great airline. Never flew to Floruda, but since the just opened direct flights to Tampa/Clearwater from my local airport, we probably will be doing so. Let us know how it goes. Good luck!

thanks! I keep going back and forth on renting a car - but I really like the thought of having one if I need it!

I thought Allegiant pulled out of MCO and has only flown into Sanford airport since 2011?

I don't know when that changed then, because in April 2012 we flew direct from ABE to MCO. The direct flight was the only reason why we decided on ABE instead of our typical 2½ drive to fly out of PHL on USAir.

Allegiant doesn't fly to MCO from my market, but if they did and they had a great price, I would try them! All the other carriers have gotten ridiculous with their fares, IMO.

We've flown with Allegiant Air tons of times and have never had any issues. As mentioned, they do nickel and dime and you pay extra for EVERYTHING but if you don't need any extras, it could be a good option.

We've only traveled with them with our kids so have never had any issues with not having seat reservations seating with the kids (families get priority bording and I don't know if they're even allowed to seat a child without at least one of his parents (I suspect that if there were no seats available together, they might have to move some other people) although on a few occasions, we were split up 2 somewhere and 2 somewhere else. (I think we might have paid for the seats once when we were travelling at XMas and didn't want to have to deal with the seats).

The nice thing with Allegiant is that they fly from smaller airports and only do direct flights so delays are not very common (I think we were only delayed once and this was at Plattsburgh and the delay was because a USAir flight arrived late and was occupying the only gate when we had to board).

I could be wrong but as far as I can tell, they no longer fly to MCO at all (Allegiant doesn't list them on their list of airport info and MCO's website doesn't list them as a airline that flies there either). Unfortunately, rental cars from SFB tend to be quite a bit more expensive than from MCO (enough that depending on your situation, it might be worth getting transportation from SFB to MCO to pick up a car there). Also means that you don't have access to Disney Magical Express.
