We are trying to swing a trip to Aulani for my 40th in April. Looking at airfare Allegiant is half the price. I know it is a pay as you fly type service. Do the seats really not recline? My DH is over 6 ft tall and that sounds very uncomfortable for him. Has anyone flown this airline for this long of a flight?

What you can expect:

Cheap fares
Friendly attendants
Flight delays
Uncomfortable seating
Dirty planes
No complementary snacks/drinks
No wifi
And, flight delays (saying it twice, because you should anticipate a plane needing maintenance before it can depart).

Thanks! I've been getting mixed reviews. I'm very nervous since this is such a long flight. I guess I was kinda hoping that they would have a nice plane for the Hawaii route.

Yeah, I completely understand your dilemma. Trying to decide between airlines, when cost is so different, can be a tough decision.

Never flown Allegiant, but we did a lot of research on the airline and plane type before booking so we could select the flight that would be most comfortable for us, since it's such a long ride. We ended up going with Delta, who gave us a full meal, sandwiches, free alcohol, USB charging at your seat, and hundreds of movies and TV shows to watch. We were in coach. I can't imagine an airline other than a major one providing the same comforts.

I flew Allegiant last year WI to FL for a 3 hour flight.
Chairs do not recline.
I am 5'11" and chose to pay the extra for legroom plus on the way down and had plenty of room.
On the way back I had chosen regular and it was a little tight but not bad.
Plane was clean and all crew were friendly.
Both flights were on time with no delay's, in fact we even were able to depart early on the return as everyone was checked in early.
Since I chose the flight on cost I did not expect any free snacks or drinks.
Reading when booking told me everything that was included and I got exactly what I paid for, no complaints, in fact I will be flying with them again this year.

So many are quick to complain about the bad, few will ever say anything about the good.

I haven't flown Allegiant but I have flown Ryan Air the Mother/Father of Cheap Airlines. If Allegiant has successfully modeled itself after Ryan Air, you will get to your destination with no frills. You will have a much better experience if you know what the extra costs are and how to avoid them. Don't expect the fees to be waived because you are nice.

Interesting. I booked Delta and it says boxed meals offered for a fee and no free alcohol in coach. The rest of your offerings match what I'm seeing (USB charging, movies, etc). When did you fly?

Edited to add: I just looked it up and I see that meals, alcohol ARE offered on flights to HNL out of Atlanta. Too bad we are flying out of Nashville:)

We flew mid-September. I believe the meal and alcohol were new offerings for Delta as of 9/15. It's possible it's only on the Atlanta long haul flight at this time though.

Allegiant sounds like the airline I should fly because I always get that person in front of me who wants to recline their seat lol Last flight to the East Coast they reclined all the way back even pushing their seat further trying to get more recline out of the seat. I have 2 tall sons (6'+) and understand the need to recline to get more leg space but they usually take aisle seats. Hope your husband finds a seat with more leg room (like comfort class or emergency exit seat).

If we do decide to go with Allegiant we will try to emergency exit seats.
Frontier charges extra for exit rows & to book seat assignments. Also, bag must fit under seat. So backpack only. Over head bins cost extra. I think Frontier is modeled after Allegiant.

Yes I have flown it, I flew it HNL to the smaller airport in Phoenix. It was okay. It really was fine.

I read a lot about delays so used Alaskan there and flew Allegiant home, figuring if I got stuck in Hawaii, oh well. The flight was fine, we were slightly late, I bought snacks in air, service was okay too.

My opinion is get to Hawaii any way you can, snorkel, see the waves, enjoy the food, etc.

One day at Hamana Bay alone is worth a slightly uncomfortable four hours IMO.

GO for it! :)

That's how I see it... of course I'm 5'3" :)

Thanks everyone!
