Thinking about using them for our trip in December. But the only flying out of our area 2xs per week has me nervous.
Any experience? There are a lot of bad reviews on them out there.
We could fly out on SW but would have to drive 3 hours to the airport nearest us that they service.
Which would you choose?

There are plenty of bad reviews about every airline out there.

I think the biggest issue is that they fly into Orlando Sanford International and not Orlando International. As long as you planned to rent a car here anyway then the savings and convenience they offer can be substantial. But if you were counting on taking a taxi or car service to Disney, there go your savings because Sanford is MUCH farther away and ground transportation much more expensive. But car rental costs are comparable and thus the extra distance basically meaningless.

I would rent a car anyway. I like being able to run to WalMart, etc & to not have to use the buses at Disney if we don't want to. Our price for flying Allegiant & renting a minivan is the same as just flights on SW.
Baggage fees would be a lot more though.
I think just the no other flights on the same day makes me really nervous.

Yes, their service is very limited to each "spoke" radiating out of their Sanford "hub". They must be doing something right though as they are consistently one of the few airlines running a profit. It is a bit riskier though.

Have used them several times to Sanford and also to Las Vegas. Have been as reliable as any airline we have flown. Left on time even in bad WI weather and each time arrived on time. Just hate the way they nickel and dime you when purchasing tickets.

If you understand Allegiant's business model, the risk is very minimal. Virtually the only way your flight would not depart your home airport is if the airport is closed (meaning no one is flying out regardless of airline).

It is not a multiple stop/route airline. The plane is going to leave Orlando with a plane full of people that need to get to your town. They don't have maintenance and storage facilities in the spoke airports. The plane will land, empty, load, and fly back to Orlando.

We were very concerned about this when we had a freak 12-inch snow storm on the first Saturday of spring break last year. Our flight was scheduled for Sunday afternoon. We watched the delays, called Allegiant. We were concerned because if that flight didn't happen, the next scheduled flight was on Thursday. That would not be an option. We were assured that unless the airport was closed, we would fly. If it was closed, they would have plane full of people that needed to get home, so as soon as it opened they would fly in and we would be Florida bound.

Since service started here 20 months ago, we have used them to fly to Orlando 4 times. Our only delay was on the way home for our last trip. We were delayed in Orlando for an hour and a half waiting for a part to be replaced on the plane. They said it normally wouldn't be an issue, but no one was working the warehouse on Sunday afternoon.

Their prices and direct flights are hard to beat. The nickel and dime can get old, but even with reserved seats and luggage they come in at less than half the price of our other options.

Still debating. It may be cheaper for us to drive the 3 hours & go Southwest just because of baggage fees.:scared1: Can anyone tell me what Allegiant's baggage prices are?
Also, has anyone done their flights & rental car thru them? We can get a good rate, with Alamo, by booking it with out flights. Is that paid for when you book your flights or is the rental car paid when you pick it up? It looks like it's when you do your flights, I just want to make sure, hehe.
Also, with the car rental rate, if it is prepaid, is there anything you pay for when you get there or is it all done in one, neat little package?

Sorry so many questions. Just trying hard to make the best decision for our family. :goodvibes
