Just heard a commercial here in Iowa that Allegiant Air will soon start flying into Orlando International. They had been flying into Sanford. Since they will now fly into International, do Allegiant flyers qualify for ME, or are there only certain airlines that qualify? Never used ME since we only flew into Sanford, would be nice to do so.

Yes, anyone flying into/out of MCO may use DME regardless what airline they fly. Those using participating airlines can even check bags right at the resort for the return trip, but anyone can use the service.

Allegiant Air is not a participating airline at this time.

Here is a thread on our Transportation Forum with complete information about DME and Participating Airlines.

Enjoy! :)

Thanks Doc. I knew it would be quicker to ask the experts here instead of searching on my own.

Allegiant is only flying from selected cities into MCO, not all of their flights.

To kick off the new service, Allegiant is offering low introductory fares between Orlando International and Knoxville, Tenn.; Lexington, Ky.; Allentown, Pa.; Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C.; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Springfield, Mo.; Tri-Cities, Tenn.; Huntington, W.Va.; Youngstown, Ohio; and Des Moines, Iowa.

Allegiant will continue to offer flights to Orlando-Sanford International Airport from the other 21 cities currently served by the airline.

I was looking on their website yesterday and saw that in 2010 Allegiant will fly out of Knoxville to Orlando. That is great for us and the times are much better! We used to fly out late at night and for kids that is awful. Then you had to drive over to Orlando from Sanford and that took longer. I am going to love the MCO option now with Allegiant. That should give Air Tran a run for their money, as of yesterday, their fares are higher than Allegiant.

I would think this would help Allegiant. The one time I flew, I drove 40 more miles to another airport to spend more on an AirTran ticket, because free ME made it cheaper than Allegiant...

I live in Iowa too! This was great news when I saw it in the Business Record. We had always flown into Sanford and this will be much more convenient.

What a disapointment! I got excited there for a second. I'd LOVE for Allegiant to fly from down here to MCO. Apparently their flights are non-stop and right now you can't get to MCO without a plane change from here.

Here's a question for you guys:

I am flying into Orlando in a couple of weeks on Allegiant, will be staying at an All Star Resort, and plan on using Magical Express. I have a couple of friends who will be flying in from other parts of the country, and we will all be sharing a room. Can you book Magical Express for multiple flights for one room?

Yes, as long as you are all flying to MCO.

We love the fact Allegiant offers non-stop flights from our little airport in Greenville/Spartanburg. Before they arrived we had to fly to Atlanta or Charlotte and change planes before heading down to Orlando. We can drive to Orlando in about 9 hours and there were several times it took almost that long to fly with the layovers, post 9/11 security, etc It's still the only airline here with direct flights to Orlando. Allegiant is running a BOGO ticket promo right now for airfare/hotel packages to Florida. Its very tempting had we not already booked our summer DVC trip.

We also just found out SouthWest is going to start offering service out of GSP so it looks like my days of driving 2 hours to catch a flight out of the bigger airports may be over.
