Allegiant Air has crazy cheap tix right now!

If we do opt out for seat selection what do they about seperating young children. What I mean is will they make sure my 4 and 2 year olds sit with at least one of us? I am considering booking for September and it is about $100 less if we opt out of selecting our seats.

I have the same question....

I have never flow with Allegiant so I would want reviews as part of my decision making process.

True. I guess I was just thinking I was posting a good deal to share with my fellow budget boarders. I just didn't like that people jumped all over my thread with negative info that was unsolicited. Had someone like you said "this sounds like a great deal, but I'm wondering if Allegiant is any good?" it would have made sense for all those opinions to pop up. I think many of us DO like Allegiant and we fly it because it is cheap. I wouldn't have posted about it if I thought it was "ghetto" or sub-par in some way. I guess that's why I feel somewhat offended. But, if this negative feedback keeps people from booking, all the better for me! The less seats that sell in advance, the more chance for me to get cheap last-minute seats! :cool1:

AS FOR SEPARATING PARENTS FROM CHILDREN:
I was told by Allegiant that they would never do this. Hence, I did not pick priority seating and saved a bundle! As long as one parent could sit near one child, I was okay. But on both our flights, we all four got to sit together!

AS FOR RENTING A CAR THRU PRICELINE: Look on the website just for fun. I was VERY hesitant, but they assure you it will be one of the listed brands- Dollar, Hertz, Alamo, etc. First I looked at each brand website and saw how much they charged ($160/week plus rental of booster seat, etc.) Then I went to Priceline and bid about half that amount. I ended up saving over $100! (My son brought his booster seat on board the airplane as his "free" personal item allowed!!)

AND FOR MORE CHEAP PRICES.....Allegiant out of TRI has flights to Tampa in September for $9.98. Really!!!!!:wizard:

Thanks for posting this info Jessica!! Just booked an extra trip down!

I have never had an issue traveling with my DH and DS. We never paid for any of the seat selections and we have always been seated together. They do let you pick your seats when you check in at the airport. So, I just do it then. I am 99.9% sure they would not let a 2 or 4 year old sit by themselves without a parent.

I am flying Allegiant for the first time. Now you all have me scared...like they aren't reputable or something. I feel like we won't be safe, kwim?

It's safe just bare bones.

Our 3rd trip is coming up. It's low frills but works fine. Bring your own snacks and get there in less than 2 hours. We also don't reserve seats and always sit together. We pay for bags in advance. I also get their trip insurance and rebooked when sale fares appeared.

Totally safe. I have flown with them 5 or 6 times now. I have never had a negative experience. I didn't think their service was any different than any other airline. That's why I think this is a great deal.

Someone asked about charging for checked bags- yes, they do charge and it's high- we just flew last week and the charge to check one bag, under 50 lbs, is $70 round trip. When you book your tickets online it will ask you if you want to PREPAY for a checked bag. YOU WANT TO. The prepay cost is $40, which I thought was too high until I got to tha airport and saw the sign which says $70 checked bag fee. So a savings of $30 if you KNOW you need to check one or more bags.

No fee for carry-ons- you get 2 per person and usually they want to gate check them anyway for free because of overcrowding.

It was our first experience with them and I did not know about the not-free on flight beverages until my kids asked for a juice and the lady said "$2, please". So I said no drinks on the way home, kids. It's just an hour for us.

No frills, but gets the job done for about 1/4 of the other airlines we have available to us here in Knoxville, TN.

We've flown Allegiant twice - once to Orlando and once to Vegas - and we're going to LA in a couple of weeks - 19.99 one way and 39.99 back - for a grand total of 190.00 for the two of us. Just to compare, the same flights out of Fargo (on Delta - no SW) is 860.00 for the both of us - and we have to connect in Minneapolis.

If their prices stay the same, I'll keep flying them:)

I cannot speak specifically about this airline - but I did want you to know that training and aircraft maintenance is not the same across the board. I know there are several airlines my hubby (a commercial pilot) said he would never put his family on. The airlines (in general) are cutting costs all over to stay afloat and give these "deals". Yes, there are federal regulations - but they are bare minimums and there are ways to get around them sometimes.
