We just moved and the closest airport has direct Allegant Air flights into Orlando Sanford Airport.

We are used to Jet Blue and the Magical Express, which is not available at the Orlando Sanford airport.

Has anyone flown Allegant Air?

Anyone know of a good and reliable car service from that airport that I can use to get us to the Beach Club Hotel??

Thanks :)

I booked a rental car from Alamo to pickup at Sanford and dropoff at the Dolphin for $35.00 total. The Dolphin is right next door to Yacht/Beach club.

I had checked into Alligent when it came to our local airport. I never used them after my research. I too fly Jetblue regularly, but thought I would do a little homework on Alligent. I saw that they charged for checked bags, and charged for seat assignments. Once I added that to the price it was not worth it to me (since Jetblue didn't charge for either). Plus for our local airport, they only had 2 flights out a week and 2 flights home a week, so it limited my choices of days to visit. I also looked into renting a car, but that was not a big deal for us, since we rent at MCO too. The downside for me was that the rental car company I wanted (Alamo or National) closed at 10:00PM and my flight arrived at 9:50PM, so I couldn't do that either. I could not remember if Alligent was part of RAC at the resorts, which is another big perk for us as we like dropping off our luggage and getting our boarding passes. I wanted to try Alligent when it was at the Hagerstown, MD airport, but I could not make it work. It only lasted about a year here, so I'm guessing others couldn't make it work for them either. Good luck in your decision. Just crunch all of your numbers before you choose. On the plus side, the local airport did not charge for parking our car, while Dulles Airport does -- though we seldom us that, since our adult kids drive us to the airport and pick us up.

Allegiant is not part of RAC. They also charge $10 to make a reservation online (only free if in person at the airport).

I live in Dover, DE and we use either BWI or PHL.

It was announced this past week Allegiant Air will be offering non-stop service to Orlando out of Salisbury Airport.

Yippee....starting at $59.00 each way. Sounds too good to be true. It was.

It is only two days a week; Thursday and Sunday.

It goes to Sanford, so now you have to find a way to Disney and back to the airport.

They don't use RAC, so now you have to drag your luggage to the airport on the way home.

And they are only running the special for two months. After that, it will be normal fare.

I believe in the end, I will still be able to take Airtran or Southwest out of BWI cheaper and be able to use all the services Disney offers at no cost.

Okay, here's the thing. I have flown into Sanford several times when going to WDW. The first time, we used a car service...it was expensive, about $200, not including gratuities. The other times we rented a car. We kept the car the entire time since it was actually cheaper to do that vs renting, returning the car, and then renting again to get back to Sanford.
The drive is about an hour, and is an easy one.
You have to figure out if flying into Sanford is indeed a money saver. You have to add in the cost of a car and then gas.

We've used Allegiant in the past when they did fly into MCO. They were the most budget airline I've ever flown - even moreso than Airtran or Southwest or JetBlue. Service stank - but we did get flights for $19 one way, not a typo! I'd use them again if they went back to MCO. If you're used to top notch service (both in-air and at the airport) and all the bells & whistles (which even the major airlines have done away with) then Allegiant is not for you! If you just need to get from point A to point B at a decent rate & can easily & cheaply get from Sanford to where you need to be, they're just fine.

It actually sounds like driving an easy 4.5 hours back down to where we use to live, visit with my mom overnite and take our usually 6:30am jet blue flight out of westchester airport is less of a hassle than than driving 1.5 hours to plattsburgh airport, fly to stanford on restricted days, rent a car/car service.......

Thanks for all the info:)

We also live in a city serviced by Allegiant (as well as Delta and United).

The major advantage to Allegiant to us is the direct flight to Orlando (both Delta and United go through a hub airport). It makes the total trip shortly, since we don't have a layover and less chance of lost baggage.

This makes a huge difference to us.

We find our tickets slightly cheaper with Allegiant compared to the other carriers, but I am sure that can vary by airport.

Flying into Sanford instead of MCO isn't a big deal to us. Sanford is smaller, but is a very nice airport.

I find the service is OK on Allegiant. I have flown them 6 times to either Orlando or Vegas. You don't get anything to drink or eat, but we don't care. The flight attendants have always been good on our flights and the planes have been as nice as anything that Delta or United use.

If we could pick the airport, I would prefer MCO but we don't get that option in Duluth Minnesota.

We always rent a car, so that is a wash for us. It does take longer to drive between Sanford and Disney, but I think you get out of the airport faster at Sanford so that makes up for some of it.

We flew on Allegiant in 2006. Our flights were delayed but you can't control thunderstorms. Hubby went to rent our car, I waited for bags. We were out of the airport in minutes. Oh, and the car rental desks don't actually close at 10 at Sanford. They stay open until their last renter's flight gets there. I called to make sure. Of course, that could have changed in 5 years. Doesn't hurt to call the actual rental desk and ask, though! We flew $59 each way, so it was well worth the extra driving time. We always stay offsite and rent a car, so MCO vs. Sanford doesn't matter to us.
