PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ALL TYPE 1 DIABETICS NEED TO CALL AND WRITE THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE AND LET THEM KNOW HOW IMPORTANT CARB COUNTS ARE TO DIABETICS. (They told us they had never had that request before....yeah well most people don't have 2 yrs to track a live person down like we did) We have been tryin fo 2+yrs to get someone to talk to us about making carb counts available. Until this spring we have hit a dead end, no one could help us. That is something they are unable to do....YEAH RIGHT!!! We have finally found two gentlemen who were willing to here our needs but they said we were the first to request such info. NO KIDDING it took us 2 yrs of calls and badgering to get your names. Please if you are a type 1 diabetic or know one traveling to WDW have them contact these gentlemen so they know we are not the only people requesting this important info...

Joel Shaffer and Mark Jones are the reason I was able to have a birthday for my birthday this year. Back in late January I emailed Mark about my trip so he could set up interpreters for some of the things I wanted to do. I asked he if he could help with another problem by pointing me to someone who could help and he had Joel call me. I am a type 1 diabetic who is also allergic to nutrasweet and sugar alcohols which are the common sweeteners in sugar free desserts. I explained that it wasn't just sugars but all carbs that have to be limited so the common assumption that fruit is a good dessert for a diabetic is wrong. That we like most like desserts but they need to be low carb but not necessarily sugar-free. Well Joel created the MAGIC and I had a wonder Old Fashioned Applesauce cake made with Splenda Blend for baking. It came complete with carb count, serving size and calorie count. WOW! Way more than I expected.

This is great. I will for sure contact these people. I went in July/ august last year right after my DD7 was diagnosed. I was shocked to find that no one had carb counts. Its on every single label in the country but they did not have a single one for their food. It was really tough because this was all new to me ( my Dd had been diagnosed less than a week before we arrived). I would love to se4e a better understanding of what is good for a type 1. I got handed fruit many times when I asked for a snack for her before a meal. Only one chef went out of her way to get my DD some cheese cubes to eat before her meal. I was also surprised that no where had sugar free jello or cheese cubes. seem like pretty basic things to me.
