We're taking DD's friend with us this year. She's never done the pin trading thing. I know she'll want to get into it because both my kids will be doing it. Is there anywhere online I can buy a cheap(really cheap, preferrably) set with a lanyard to get her started?

Did you try ebay? I saw some cute sets there today. :)

Send me a PM I may have something for you! They aren't the best pins, but would make for some traders! I love to help people get in to the hobby!!!

Is this a regular lanyard you could put more pins on? I can't really tell what it is.
Well, I decided to go ahead and purchase this and I got all the way thru checkout and then it told me it's no longer available and removed it from my cart! I'm soooo bummed! I can't seem to find lanyards on ebay or anywhere else that don't look like kiddie lanyards. This is for a 12 yo girl so I want a "regular" pin lanyard, not a little kid one.

Can anybody find one?

Thanks!

I am also looking for a starter set and lanyard. My daughter is 8 years old and has said that she wanted to start trading pins this trip. So I have been looking for some pins to trade and also a lanyard.

Enclosed in the Magical Express info I received in the mail a couple days ago is a coupon for a free lanyard and one starter pin. If you are using ME, you can just use this coupon and start out for free!

This will be my first trip to Disney in 12 years and then we only went for part of a day. First time with my kids (boys 10 and 7 years). I've heard of pin trading, but I don't get it.
Apparently, you have a lanyard and some pins to start with, then who do you trade with? Do a lot of people do this? Someone mentioned that this may be a good way for my son who is autistic to interact with the characters. Do the characters trade pins? Do you trade pins with people you don't know but just happen to meet in your hotel or at the parks? How many pins should you start with?
Sorry to have so many questions. I'm quite ignorant on the topic.

I also need some cheap trader pins. MY Two DD's are now ready to start pin trading. I've tried e-bay. Bought them a couple apiece with the pin sale going on now. I found some Stitch lanyards for $1.99 at Disney Deals(in case someone still needs one). We are on a military budget so the cheaper the better for me too. Please p.m. if anyone has anything or tips, etc. Thanks, Tinkerbelle P.S. Is everyone getting the coupon in the ME kit? I haven't received my yet, but am getting a little nervous because our trip is quickly approaching. :goodvibes

I just checked Disneydirect & they have 2 new lanyards. One is Tink & the other is Alice in Wonderland. Both are priced at 6.99 with free shipping. :)

mlwear,

My sons are just getting into pin trading, so this is new for me too. It's my understanding that you can trade with any of the CM's (any Disney workers) who have a lanyard on. They usually keep their personal pin collection seperate from their "work" pins.

I don't think any of the characters have pins to trade.

Some of the CMs were very friendly and made pin trading fun. Others were not so friendly and just quickly made the switch. I've heard that some people trade with other visitors, but we haven't done that. The boys loved having the CMs comment on the pins that they had collected.

One piece of advice is to order them at least 1 pin that they won't like. The first year when we tried this, my sons did not want to trade any of their pins because they liked them so much! The next trip I bought them quite a few "girl" pins that they were happy to part with!! :teeth:

Here is a link to an article that explains it

I know this isn't a pin trading board, but there doesn't seem to be much action over there. I was wondering, what is a good number of pins to start out with? & are all pins limited edition? or do they make some that aren't? :)

Well, grrrr! Just as I was getting over the whole "no luggage tag" thing, now I find out we also didn't get the lanyard! We spent $25 each for our 2 oldest kids for a starter lanyard with 4 pins. Oh well.

My ds7 and ds11 love to pin trade. The problem we have is that they run out of pins to trade. The ones they purchase they want to keep. I went to www.mousepinsonline.com and purchased 50 pins for $100. I hid the pins so that they don't even know about them. We leave 2 weeks from today. Whoo-hoo (and no ME tags either).
