All the Solo Ladies-Uber?

I Uber frequently as a (broke) college student and have had good experiences. But I tend not to sit in front (I always sit in the back. I've heard of women getting felt up when sitting in the passenger seats) and I trust my instincts (don't go in if you feel something is off, always check license plate, etc).

I"m pretty sure in Boston in was just 1 Uber driver who made numerous attacks. In a goggle search only the 1 guy comes up.

I have used uber many times in many different cities and always felt much safer than in any taxi, and far safer than a city bus. Whenever I was traveling solo I texted or shared my info with someone at home and they new I was in my room safely or who was responsible if I didn't make it.

I've heard horror stories about taxis as well as the newer options like Uber and Lyft, as well as the bus and train. No matter what option you choose, there is always a possibility of some idiot wanting to take someone else's power away.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide what option to get from WDW to my parents house about 45 minutes north. Normally they would pick me up, but my dad will be a week out of surgery and my mom in the midst of chemo. Trying to figure out options. It doesn't look like taking a bus to Leesburg is feasible, so I'm thinking taxi or Uber... or maybe renting a car.

I haven't used Uber/Lyft in WDW, but have in Disneyland, Las Vegas, Kansas City and Portland by myself and never had any issues. I like that I know what car to look for along with the driver's name and picture. There is an option on Uber to "share your ETA" so it's a good way to let someone somewhere know when you expect to arrive and/or you can use it like a check-in feature with someone. You could alert someone that you will text once you arrive where you are going after using that automated text

Yes the parks have Uber. When you take the shuttle out to the parking lots they tell you which stop is the area for the Uber/taxi drivers.

Which shuttle? I was thinking about taking an Uber to the Magic Kingdom since my hotel doesn't have shuttle service. On another forum someone suggested I take Uber to Contemporary Resort and then just walk over to Magic Kingdom so I was considering that.

Yep used Uber last year to transfer from Disney to Universal and then from Universal to the Airport. Wasn't a problem, both the drivers were really friendly and it was so much cheaper. I'd used Mears private car the year before but just couldn't justify the expense. I also use Uber all the time at home when I'm heading out or home after a late night. Only thing is I'm not sure if Uber's are allowed to pick up from the parks but don't quote me on that

Uber here in the UK has a thing where you can send a email/text to someone you know to say you're on the way and it gives the license plate/name of the driver to the person. I always let someone know anyway just in case.

Do you remember how much it was to get from Disney to universal via uber?

No thanks...never would I use a service like Uber on my own. I value my life too much.

I have been debating this issue for my solo trip in September. I am doing 2 nights at the Swan and then 2 nights at Universal. It would save a good bit of money to just catch a can ag the airport then uber to universal and back to the airport, but I eventually decided against it. I have used uber numerous times when traveling with family/friends, but I decided reserving a private car service that came very highly recommended here on the boards would be a better option. It is going to cost a little more but hopefully will be worth it.

I always use Uber in Chicago. It's quicker, easier, and faster than hailing a taxi. I left the theatre Saturday night with 15 minutes to catch my train and my amazing Uber driver got me to the station with four minutes to spare. I'd have still been in front of the theatre fighting for a cab. My 19 y/o granddaughter doesn't own a car and she uses Uber A LOT!

Yep (well no but I checked my uber history haha) $15.83 from Disney to Universal and then $21.12 from Universal airport. Think my disney to universal was more than it should be because he got lost trying to get out of Art of Animation apparently. A direct drive would be cheaper

Since your driver didn't take the most direct route, you can dispute the charge & über will typically credit the difference. All of the drivers are tracked by gps, so the office is quick to reply and I have had credits within minutes if the driver made mistakes.

The shuttle in the parking lots from the park gates to your car. Not an off site shuttle.

Yes, taking Uber to the Contemporary & walking from there might be a better idea than having it drop you at the Transportation Center (then taking the ferry or monorail over).

Thank you!

I have taken Uber all the time since they started. Orlando, Chicago, Detroit, the suburbs were I live in MI. I've also taken Lyft, cabs, and public transit. I almost always travel alone. I lived alone in Chicago for 7 years. I refuse to let fear control my life. Terrible things can happen anywhere, with any service. Trust yourself, your body has instincts that will tell you when something isn't right, like when the hairs on the back of your neck stand up or you get the twisting feeling in your gut. Nothing says you have to get in the car when it gets there.

As far as the women for women service - FYI ladies, women rape, assault, and murder too. Less frequently, but it happens. Anyone is capable.

Yes! If we're going to act like women are safe, remember all of the women that assisted serial killers.

OP, I've used Uber in Chicago, DC, and San Diego. I prefer Lyft (I like being able to tip in the app), but I've never felt unsafe using either service.

We have Lyft here in Nashville, and I've just seen they have it in Orlando. I much prefer Lyft to Uber. The drivers seem more friendly and less intimidating when riding alone. Lyft's process to become a driver is much more specific and you're more likely to get a responsible driver.

I've used Uber alone in New Orleans and never had an issue. I'd feel safe using them in Orlando and other places I travel. DH and I used Uber in Orlando and had a great experience.

I took Uber to discovery cove yesterday.

Honestky, it was a very uncomfortable ride. the driver was very stand-off-ish, and seemed unapproachable. I got there fine, but I'm glad the ride was only 10 minutes.

Call me antisocial but I have zero desire for any personal interaction with the driver. Total silence is A OK with me. I just want to reach my destination with no costly detours to Winter Park and without any felonies committed upon my person.
