All that work for naught!

:scared1:

Wow, and here I was thinking it was so strange that the OP said people didn't really know about banana pudding! ;)

There are lots of variations but all the ones I've had have had a vanilla pudding base, sliced bananas and something like vanilla wafers. Sometimes those are layered together, other times they are just mixed up together. Sometimes it has meringue or whipped cream on it, sometimes it has brown sugar in it, sometimes people change it in other little ways. It's really popular in the south - you can find it all over the place. The best ones have homemade pudding or at least "cook and serve" pudding. It isn't nearly as good if you use instant pudding.

Ahh, that does sound good. It is sort of like a banana cream pie that I make - graham cracker or chocolate wafer crust/sliced bananas/pudding/whipped cream. For added decadence, I sometimes line the crust with dulche de leche before layering in the sliced bananas.

I was thinking that banana pudding was just banana flavoured pudding - and I would have been one of those who said "no thanks!". This sounds tasty.

OP, I can understand your frustration after going all that work. That said, I would have eaten the cake. :lmao:

Maybe it depends on area? Around here, people practically inhale banana pudding! I know that I would have been all over it. And the tortes too.

I'm hungry now...

That is frustrating when you go through a lot of trouble for nothing. I remember the year I made 6 homemade pies for Christmas dinner, then my mother-in-law trotted out a "Happy Birthday Jesus" cake--to make the kids happy--and everyone ate that. I felt the same way. In good news though, I've never killed myself over anything for Christmas dinner since and often don't bring anything to the in-laws for Christmas dinner, which makes it relaxing for me!

However, I will say that I've noticed that my family has learned to appreciate a debacle like this because it means you get to bring the food home for leftovers! If I make something yummy and take it to an occasion, my husband and kids are thrilled when no one eats it because then they'll get lots of it at home. My family would love me forever if I brought such yummy goodies back home as leftovers for them.

Oh, that would of made me so upset. But in the end, I would of been happy to have more for myself!!

And costco cake is ok...

Shortbun -I think it was a hostess issue. Or maybe the other family didn't follow instructions?
This kind of thing should have been handled ahead of time. No need in two families bringing the same things.
I would have been irritated too.

Do you have the torte recipe on your computer? I would love to have it
